Bidding war between Carlton and Collingwood is good business. Again club needs to hold until 15 minutes to go in trade period, and then be happy to walk away.

The fact that North hasn’t announced they are out of the race is a good sign

That’s what we said about Geelong

Geelong are an exception not the rule, they won premierships in 2007, 2009 and 2011 then not again until 2022. And the 2022 side did not have an age profile as extreme as that.

I'm fully accepting that port will do shit deal for Houston like 13+23+Richards for Houston what is 100% reflective of the meek attitude that makes me less and less involved with Port
Actually I think that's best case scenario.

We will probably accept less

Instead of 13, I'd rather take future first from Pies I think. And give up our F1 for 13 maybe. I'd say we finish above Pies next year. Thoughts?
Houston is contracted. We have nothing to gain by taking an F1 now. If we're going to take a 2025 pick, keep him for a year and do it next year when we actually know what the pick will be.

Collingwood will never be shit for a long time. They're too wealthy and have too much support to be cellar dwellers years on end

However, say Dan has 5-7 years of top line footy left. I would suggest that success at North, over that stretch of time, is just as likely if not more so than Collingwood given their respective list profiles.

North have built a very talented young list, they need time and development, but if they all click at the same time in the window above, they'll be more than competitive.

Should be factored into his thinking.

Add in the extra money and years for Dan and it could be win-win-win if we get it right...

I just went to the D&T Board and read that peak Adam Saad is as good as Dan Houston.

I reckon 13, 23 and Richards will be as good as we get
In that case I would walk away from Richards regardless of what terms we offered.

I’m happy with Davies approach which is to get all our other business sorted and deal Houston right at the very end.

I simply wouldn’t consider dealing with Collingwood or Carlton and push Houston to accept North or nothing.

Please trade him to us because we are Carlton. Here are some Aldi biscuits. They're like Tim Tams. You really couldn't tell the difference.

Looking at Collingwood's top agers

Pendlebury 36
Howe 34
Sidebottom 33
Cox 33
Elliot 32
Mihocek 31
Mitchell 31
Hoskin-Elliot 31
Crisp 31

And about to trade out early picks for Houston, plus losing a mid-age player in Richards.

There's a cliff coming ...
Geelong be going "This Cliff?"

As I posted before, Geelong are the exception not the rule. They won flags in 2007, 2009 and 2011 with a younger list, and their next premiership in 2022, the grand final side didn't have an age profile that lopsided.

At least Collingwood and North have put in some effort to get Houston.

Not sure why Carlton even spoke to Houston knowing they weren't going to part their FRP and is wasting everyone's time. Did they genuinely believe they could get Houston for a second?
Don't be so certain. Michael Voss could call Koch and ask him to be his reasonable self. Why would he not be? He always is, at the expense of Port becoming a power again.

"Okay, Vossy. You can have him as long as you promise to give him back if Ken needs him in 2026."

"Sure thing, Kochy. I'll get it done!"

Ben Allen might be a bit passed his prime , his son Ed is looking alright. but essentially I agree with you guys , Houston is a gun , so you should receive fair return from any suitor , unfortunately I feel you guys will believe you have been dudded. Just like your coach is a fraud .
Pies can add their second for this year, I don't have a problem if Dan trades is Pick 13, Luko and Richards.
And it is not predicated on us trading out next year's F1.

Anyway I have great faith in Jason Crisps remember his team created a miracle when bringing in JHF & Rioli two year ago.

No a bidding war between Carlton and Collingwood has zero impact on Port. In fact, its actually really bad.

Neither of those teams are bidding to Port with the trade offer. They'd be bidding to Dan Houston with a contract offer.

And then he'd pick the club that gives him the best contract.

And two clubs that see themselves in a position to win now, are likely to price Houston out of North Melbourne's offer. Who would be presenting a "help us get good" situation.

And neither Collingwood or Carlton have anywhere near the draft capital to match what North would be offering in trade.

From the same eastern seaboard mindset that thought the likes of Matthew Kreuzer, Marc Murphy and Dyson Heppell were jewel-encrusted superstars of the comp.

Cal Twomey the one talking sense here. Houston has to be open to any one of Carlton, Collingwood or North. North not counting themselves out at all, have a 5 year, $4million offer on the table and are willing to use a future first or split pick 2 to get the deal done.

Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston wants to play for Carlton in 2025 and beyond according to SEN’s Sam Edmund.
That’s despite reports suggesting Collingwood is the favourite to land his services and even Pies list boss Justin Leppitsch telling AFL Trade Radio he’s confident in getting a deal done.
As things stand, Houston wants to return to Victoria but hasn’t nominated a club, with all of the Blues, Pies and Roos interested, but Edmund says that the two-time All-Australian’s preference is absolutely Carlton – he’s just not sure if he can force his way to IKON Park.“Dan Houston wants to play for Carlton, he absolutely wants to play for the Blues,” Edmund told SEN Mornings. “But the issue that he has is that Carlton now isn’t presenting the best option, they're not presenting the best offer for the player as well and thirdly, he's contracted, so there’s only so much pushing he can do to navigate a path through to his club of choice, which remains Carlton. “The Michael Voss (who was formerly an assistant at the Power) connection here is real, he wants to get to Carlton, but how he's going to do it could be one of the more fascinating subplots of this trade period.”
Edmund expects North Melbourne to present Houston with the best contractual terms and he also agreed that Collingwood are the favourites given they appear the most likely team to secure Gold Coast’s pick No. 13 in an overall John Noble trade. With Carlton adamant about taking their first pick to the draft this year, they’re also chasing pick No. 13 from the Suns to then give it to Port Adelaide to Houston. Unfortunately for the Blues, they may never get their hands on that pick which could unlock their Houston pursuit.
North Melbourne is going to present the best contract offer, there’s no doubt about that, they are in this up to their eyeballs,” Edmund said. “Then Collingwood at the moment has got the inside running in terms of the John Noble deal.
“Gold Coast are prioritising Collingwood because of John Noble coming in … they’re getting a look (at pick 13).

As Cal Twomey said, even if Carlton offer their first round pick, what else do they have? Nothing.
