There has been so much negative press on him in the past, people doubting his ability and so on, I just thought I would congratulate him on his efforts since his return. 2 times since he has come back, we have been in a tight situation in the final term and we have managed to win the centre clearances by a fair margin and ultimately win the match. His work around the grounds seems to have improved aswell. Hopefully he can really step it up and continue his work. Hille and Watson could be the new Cox & Judd when it comes to centre clearances.

Keep up the good work Hilley :thumbsu:

Yeah good point, has lifted his game phenomenally since he came back. Battled his guts out against two of the best in the comp in Everitt and Jolly, with a little help from Laycock (who in my opinion, was a solid contributor).

Full credit to him

Have to argue that one, he presented OK up foward but did nothing on the score board and only had 4 hitouts with 0% to advantage.

Exactly the same as Pattison for Richmond against us, and he was one of their best. I know Laycock doesnt give us as much around the ground, but i believe he can be a good key forward, just as Steve Alessio was for us. Neither were fantastic ruckmen, but they have a strong pair of hands and good accuracy from sethots. Unfortunately, there isnt really a spot for Laycock in the forward line ATM.

i beg to differ.
i beleive we fall apart when lloydy is out.

look at the games where hille missed
immediatley must bring in laycock or bolton or bradley which slows us down
it then means that we take paddy from defence and let him pinch hit in the ruck. it killed our structure on anzac day and against the hawks

I wasn't saying he was in our best, not even close. But he still impressed me compared to his other games, he looked fitter, which is a result of his VFL games I'm guessing. He turned up to play, which is an attitude he was criticised of not having in earlier matches. Showed good hands in slippery conditions, which we know is a major strength. And most of all, Everitt and Jolly didn't dominate like expected. Yes, mostly due to Hille, but Laycock can't be dismissed. Also meant we could keep Ryder down back to beat O'Loughlin.

He is surely one of the best ruck man in the compotion he is very reliable when we need someting extra out of him, captianing the side lats eyra has really paid off!!!

Our three game losing streak coincided with him being out (as well as Lloyd). He at leasts gives Watson and co an even money chance to get the clearances. Probably in the top 6 or 7 ruckman in comp. Lade, Cox, Everitt, Ottens, Sandilands and McIntosh are ahead of him ATM

Add Jolley and Jeff White to that list, and probably Simmonds whne he comes back from injury. So yeah, Hille is in the top 10 ruckmen in the league. Not 2 bad, wouldnt have had him there last year probably, so its an improvement.

Whites had his day and Simmonds is a hack, played one fair season out of about 6 or 7.

White has had the most possessions of any ruckman this season. Simmonds playd his career in the shadows of Burton, Sandilands and Stafford. It is hard to be consistent when you are not the number 1 ruckman in the team.

Hille is our premier ruckman and he continues to improve in relation to other ruckman in the league. He shouldn't be measured in absolute tapouts but in influence on the game. Laycock will be alright as well as soon as he gets enough games into him.

Sandilands has only come good the last couple of years and Stafford always was a hack so if he was in their shadows does that suggest something. And what a glittering career Burton had

Are you trying to tell me White is not past his best

White might be past his best, but he is still a very good player, one of the best ruckmen going around infact.

I never said Burton had a glittering career, but when he was in the side, he would be the number 1 ruckman, in most teams, not just a dud Freo side. And as for Stafford, he was a good tap ruckman who was also dangerous going forward.

White probably is past his best, but his best was nearly Brownlow Medal winning form. His form now is still very good, and he is one of Melbourne's most important players. Hird and Buckley are probably past their best aswell, does that mean they're crap now.

When Simmonds was at Melbourne he was very much in White's shadow, and was never going to be no. 1 ruckman. He went to Freo and played some high quality seasons there. The stats speak for themself. He lost a bit of form as Sandilands was emerging into a top player, and went to Richmond. He absolutely dominated last year, unlucky not to get AA.

He is by no means a hack.
