I usually do a top 40 or 50 with another 40 or 50 to look out for then I will find another 10 during the draft year, so easily 100 per year or more but only the best 60-70 get drafted, rookied or preseason listed or MSD the following year, the rest either go into state leagues or give up on footy professionally.

In among your top 50 for 2024 updates Davo, there's been about 70 odd names you've namedropped.

Here is my most recent attempt at ranking this group

isaac kako probably one of if not the best forward in the draft year, yet at 31?
Yes he's quick, agile, but very small and has had games where he goes missing, I think at this stage he would start his draft year as a 2nd round option, he has had some good games for Vic Metro and Calder, talented small forw, but I think even in this year which is a forward heavy draft year he would likely go 2nd round, but performances next year could see him rise or fall in the rankings.

I want to mention some things about some 2024 draft eligible players

Harvey Langford (Dand)- at the start of the year, the way he was playing for Dandenong really caught my attention, big strong, skilful, then I thought he had a good Vic Country trial game only to be left out of the team for the u18s, I thought maybe he was overlooked as many underagers are, but to see him look defeated and playing half hearted in the u17s and also to see how slow he moved in comparison to his peers, I realised that I can't over rate slowish mids anymore and so even though I liked him from his CTL footy, he wasn't doing enough at the state rep side for me to continue to rate him as high and others at that level were exposing his lack of athletic qualities like speed and endurance.

Liam Farrar (Northern 188cm)- in the u17s futures game he was marking everything for Vic Metro, great hands and lead up the ground onto the wing ect, his play is fantastic, the only issue is his goal kicking, I think he went 0.6 or something to that affect, but the way in which he dominated the aerial contests for a medium sized player was impressive as well as his general play and smarts with poss, one to keep an eye on if he continues to play as well as he did for the u17s

Jonty Faull (GWV 194cm)- had a bit of a day out in the u17s futures, I remember his name from earlier in the year or maybe u16s? he seems to have improved, kicked 4 goals for Vic Country in their close game against QLD.

Hey Davo. Do you know much about Elwood peckett? He is in next years draft but is playing for the stingrays this week. Plays seniors at bonbeach and apparently got some speed.

I thought doing a quick Phantom Draft where I think players might land could be of interest, I will add North's likely FA Compo, but any trades within the top 10 are rare, so I won't waste peoples time, or you can change a club with GCS if they trade again for salary cap room or to get points for their Academy guys, im unsure on the Sanders situation and if he gets prelisted? So I will add him into the open market.

2023 AFL Phantom Draft

Pick 1 - WCE - Harley Reid - I think WCE could split the pick, but if they don't, they could have a franchise talent in the making
Pick 2 - GCS - Bid - Jed Walter - ready made KPF, very strong, athletic, potential Tom Hawkins type KPF
Pick 3 - North - Daniel Curtin - North need KPP so I think this is a good fit
Pick 4 - North - Colby McKercher - I think he is too good to not be taken here, but I do believe North like Watson as well and with so many mids at North they might take a forw?
Pick 5 - Haw - Zane Duursma - it's a coin toss between Watson and Duursma, but I think a Fritsch type forward could be what we go for?
Pick 6 - GCS - Bid - Ethan Read - quality ruck/kpp for GCS who dominated the ruck and around the ground contests at the champs
Pick 7 - Melb - Nick Watson - quality small forward for a strong forward line at the Dee's
Pick 8 - GWS - Ryley Sanders - fantastic midfielder with a great athletic profile
Pick 9 - Geel - Connor O'Sullivan - athletic 198cm kpp, run and carry kpp, could be anything
Pick 10 - GCS - Bid - Jake Rogers - another 1 of the dominant Allies midfield, quick, clever, also played well against Port Sanfl side and Carlton vfl team being best on for both games imo
Pick 11 - Ess - Harry DeMattia - big strong quick athletic mid/forw with good kicking skills, exactly what Essendon have been looking for imo, Jai Newcombe with speed
Pick 12 - Adel - Darcy Wilson - a goal kicking wing/hff who can also play midfield, classy outside type
Pick 13 - WB - Koltyn Tholstrup - a clever forw/mid, I was thinking Caddy or Edwards here, but they have too many talls and with another 1 in Croft coming later in the draft, I thought I needed to add a small here, I was tempted to put Jack Delean here also, Kolt is a dynamic player in the forward line and an accumulator when he plays mid, can play both roles to a high standard.

Some 2024.
Some 2025.
Two for 2026.

Wildcard weekend starts today, interesting to see they have split the teams into Vic Metro and Vic country/Tas divisions, the teams look very strong, I see players from the next 3 drafts in team lists... Tasmania gets the bye as top placed team after home and away season, all winners and top ranked loser from Vic Metro to qualify for next week of finals, let's hope there's some standouts, I still remember Adam Goodes kicking 8 goals in the GF for Dandenong or Sidebottom kicking 10 goals in a GF and then to see them become stars of the AFL, even Grian Myers kicked a bag recently in a GF, so good luck to all the young blokes trying to make a name for themselves.
