A suggestion.

When you update your top 50 for 2024 next, can you please put your ins and outs per list?
I guess the recent updates have been

In:
Kayle Gerryn - WA Ruck, looks like an exciting tall prospect in a draft lacking talls
Charlie Hewitt - Bris A KPF/Ruck, good contested mark and tap ruck
Wil Thomas - Sturt mid/forw, 1 that's new, a few weeks ago got player of the round and played 2 quality games at the u16s in 2022
Kade Herbert - SA mid, I added him because of his solid u16s in a strong SA side and his quality u18s champs form this year
Chayse Martinson - WA mid, I re-added him because he got MVP for WA and was in the top 3 for WA in my notes at the u16s and is averaging around 30 disposals at colts level atm
Hugh Boxshall - WA def, he was one of my favourites from WA in the u16s and has made PSA(school footy in WA) his preference this year

I promoted Christian Moraes up the order on his great form for Eastern recently

I dropped Deian Roberts because of his average form at WAFL Colts level this year, although I thought he played well for Peel colts last year when they won their 1st premiership, where he was spending most of the games on a flank

OUTS were a mix of out of form or players maybe I over estimated?

Not overestimated mate. Just things change at rapid speed in this age group as you know. It's actually a task in itself to adapt to the pace of change and the big movers and the big sliders. It seems to happen more now than it used to but maybe that's my subjective view. It's as in the space of a year some of the players ate the whole of Hungry Jacks and forgot how to play while others lived on lettuce leaves and forgot how to play. Then some come out of nowhere and are stars. (That's the rewarding part for me)

You're doing a wonderful job and it's appreciated.

Just watched the Vic Country v Qld u17 futures game, and i snuck a few changes to the list for 2024, Unwin and Langford played well at State Level, but didnt look as clean or crisp with the step up in quality of game(Langford looked a bit slow out there, so did Hynes at times, but he had more passion and energy for the contest), so i dropped them down the order a bit, i put Nancarrow and Lombard up a bit they looked fantastic at the next level, Nancarrows leap is impressive and is handy around the ground, Hewitt also looked good again, this time at u17s, Marshall is an endurance creator of play in the midfield and Lombard was the burst midfielder for Qld, Zai Millanes intercept marking was impressive too, for Vic Country Ivisic was spreading the ball by hand and in everything, Travaglias defensive work is a thing of beauty, Faull kicked a bag and looked really good at the level.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered, but are you able to give a quick synopsis of O'Sullivan, Draper, Smilie and Jagga Smith and why they are in that order?

I've said this before, 8-9/10 drafts are basically the same, you have your 2-4 elites, top 15 that most come to some sort of consensus, then clubs deviate into their own reads based on needs, the interviews they have ect, the 1/10 is a super draft or weak draft event, which I think 2018 and 2020 were, I don't think there's much difference between 2023 and 2024, it comes down to what individual clubs value(2023 is a forward/kpp draft, 2024 is a midfield heavy draft imo), so if a club needs forwards or kpp, there's options this year, if you need midfielders, next year has ioptions.

I have made a few edits to that list you linked as well.

O'Sullivan is an elite talent, moves well, contested mark for a mid like Bartel, beautiful kicking action, runs all day, accumulator, smart, has star potential, the way he plays reminds me of so many AFL Players over the years, he is a Rolls Royce, all class imo

Draper has a good work ethic too, disposal isn't as clean, but he gets to so many contests and provides good run and carry, was SA s best midfielder as a underager, tough mid too, doesn't mind the rough stuff on the inside, but his clean clearances and outside work give him more value than just an inside mid, good athletic qualities

Smillie is a taller mid, who is a consistent performer, he racks up poss and because of his height and frame is hard to ignore on the inside, he also plays well off half back as an interceptor and good decision maker, athletically he might need some improvement, so even though I like him and he nearly always performs there's a part of me that wishes he was more athletic

Jagga Smith is an energiser bunny, runs all day, has an impressive work rate and great evasive skills in traffic, the only knock on him is that he always wants the ball, whether he is in a good position or not, he demands the footy from team mates and can be a bit "all about me", rather than team oriented and seems to have favourites that he works well with and people he can ignore at times, he is a good accumulator though and loves a shot at goal, he also nearly always in his teams bests, so he performs, but the reason he is where he is, is because he can be a bit ball hogish I guess and I'm worried that sometimes that may be at the expense of his teams win condition.

Thanks Davo

With Jagga ranked at 9, how do you think he compares to the guys who went at 8,9,10 in the midfield-strong '22 draft; J.Clark, Ginbey, Phillipou. Better, similar or worse?

It's always hard to know until they are put under the pressures of their draft year and how those with high anxiety might be affected? Obviously we can't tell who has high anxiety until we see it's effects.

I do think Jagga could contend with those guys(similar, less physically able), but Ginbey and Phillipou are already on track to be 200+ game AFL players which is impressive in a short period of time.

I do think 2022 was a strong draft and I said so, but I had people in my thread pushing 2023 draft strength at times.

2022 was an impressive top 15
Cadman, Ashcroft, Sheezel, Wardlaw, Tsatas, Humphrey, Mackenzie, Clark, Ginbey, Phillipou, Hollands, Fletcher, Busslinger, Hewett, Jefferson (few picks later Weddle)

2024 prediction, but not set in stone
O'Sullivan, Draper, Welsh, Hargraves, Ashcroft, Smillie, Smith, King, Grego, Travaglia, Evans?(have not seen him at state level yet), Lombard, Barrett, Dattoli, Gross, L.Camporeale

guys like Ivisic, Gerryn, Nancarrow, Shanahan, Martinson and Evans i have high hopes for rising up the ranks.

How come you have his name in blue in your rankings?

Is is a scholarship holder?
He played for NSW/ACT last week, he plays for Bendigo so probably lives across the border.

PS I looked it up, he comes from Moama which is over the river from Echuca, which means he is from NSW

Thank you.

I'd seen his name so many times but didn't think about any NSW ties.
