Again, it is not pick 5 only, it is players available at that pick, within reason. Even limit it to picks 5-8 if you want. Do you think Collingwood would have only picked the same players picked at 5 since 2005, given the same pick each year? No, they would have been picking the player that they rated highest/suited their needs. Again, it is plausible, even likely, that your recruiters would have appropriately rated a Wines/Wingard/Aish type at pick 5 in those drafts.

In summary, pick 5 does not directly give you the average of historical pick 5s, but a ticket to pick the highest possible rated player on your draft board.

Pick 5 could be valuable, but isnt it possible our recruiters have looked at the draft and are not confident of what is there? I've only glanced over the draft but it looks like a real lottery after the top 4.

I would prefer to lose Beams next year for nothing than cave in. You can't have guys requesting trades to teams who will pay them 800k a year. I mean do people seriously think this is all to do with being closer to home? Why not GC then? Or is it because his father "wants" him to play with his brother. Big deal. Some dads might want their sons to play for their fav team growing up, doesn't mean its gonna happen. I'd say the Pies should look to GC now.

The funniest part in all of this is the blindness of interstate supporters. When a QLD kid comes home he has 2 options, when a Vic kid comes home he has 10. That's 10 people jostling for the trade. We have been limited to one, which is quite simply not fair.

Prestia for Beams would get it done.

GC wouldn't do that. Not that Prestia is worth as much as Beams (he isn't), but you just don't deal star young players who are quite happy at their club. Name the last time this happened.

You can't knock back a very reasonable deal made by Brisbane and then counter with something GC wouldn't do. They'd offer you picks too.

Cheers. Just googled Ball, pick 30 at draft. Did his manger state his club of choice prior to the draft though? Will be interesting to watch how this all plays out over the next fews days. If nothing happens so be it. Lions have 5, 25, +Christensen, -Patfull.

You have pick 5 because you finished 4th last. Why are Lions supporters saying this like its some huge reward just bestowed upon them?

You obviously missed last trade period when Docherty, Longer and Karnezis all nominated a single club in Victoria.

Josh Kennedy? I agree with you though, obviously the circumstances were exceptional to get Judd. No way Prestia is being considered.

It doesn't matter. As soon as we start talking to GC, Brisbane would up their offer. Beams will be with his next club for the best years of his footballing life. He has already show enough to suggest he can be a top 10 player in the comp for the next 6-7 years and he deserves way more than pick 5 and 25. Lions can roll the dice that Aish will stay with them. Most would suggest he would go home at some point and it would make sense to let him go to bring a local home. He probably wouldn't stay at Collingwood either, but he is currency and would help if we wanted to trade for a Sloane or maybe even a Wines in the future.
You compare the Judd trade. Pick 3 is way more than pick 5. At the top end two picks difference is huge. We are talking the option of one of the best 3 talents, v one of the best 5.

GC will offer Pick 7 & Pick 16 without a shadow of any doubt.
Coll will tell GC we will pay Beams salary in our cap in 2015.

Clearly we had to tank pretty hard to finish lower than your club. We probably won't be able to do that next year. All teams have ups & downs, just stating facts. The pics we have are good & we have negotiated a good win/win for Patfull & Christensen.

It sucks for Brisbane because by Pick 5, Wright & McCartin will be gone.

Oh wow, Docherty, Longer and Karnezis. Doceherty and Longer would not have held their draft place value and Karnezis couldn't get a game. We are talking about A graders, unproven and plodders

This is pretty much what will happen now i reckon.

If you are happy with that it is your choice but don't expect to much out of him next season as his incentive to really play hard will be lacking and he will be doing nothing short of just going through the motions.

What happened to Eddie stating that " Players who do not want to play for our jumper can go " etc etc and all this patriotism he so often shows. How quickly this pig headed attitude caves in to suit an agenda.

Brissy are not playing hard ball and what they have offered is not that short of the mark in the current climate, but hey who am i to say what you should take and next year you will get a big fat finger as he walks out for nothing. At the moment Pie fans are rejoicing at the hard ball stance, but revisiting this scenario in 12 Mths time when he walks for free after a crap 2015 season as his heart is not in it will be interesting.

Only then will you look back and say "gee we should of taken those picks". If you look at the big picture you are giving up two decent picks for 12mths of football from a disgruntled player who is playing with his heart not in the right place and a chip on his shoulder put there by the Pies.......

Do the maths without the Ego.

Brisbane.

The club that decided Christensen was worth more than Beams.

And to think he could have been yours tonight if you had only offered 5,21 and 25.

Anyway enjoy your so so player with a bad back from Geelong.

Priceless.

P.S-We'll now go shop him to the suns and giants and come away with a better deal.

Thanks!
