All this Beams will be your best player is ignoring Rockliff - perhaps equal best?

Also in the coming years there's every chance that the likes of Aish & Mayes will be better players.

You should ask Brisbane that exact question given they are making Beams their highest paid player.

Glad you're not doing the negotiating!
Well sometimes, theres the chance to just realise that theres a benefit to the club, and then theres this immature notion that winning a trade and talking about it on an internet forum is important.

Pick 5 and 25 would be pretty good for the club. I don't believe at this point that Beams is a long term good for the club anymore. Pretty simples .

I would imagine tippet would be up there in terms of Sydney swans paid players but i sure as hell think he would be lucky to be in the top 10-15 players.
Paid doesn't always equal best. There are other considerations.

If the pies knocked back 5 and 21 they definitely won't accept 5 and 25. I'm also convinced that Brisbane will stick to their guns and there is nothing wrong with that. They tried to get him for significant unders and failed but managed to land Christensen. Not a wasted trade period for them.

For the pies it remains to find another way to secure Greenwood. Pretty happy to hold onto Beams as he's a gun and we have a year to convince him to stay.

If the Stand off over Greenwood is the difference between pick 30 and pick 25 , the deal will done.

The linking of this trade by Brisbane fans is a silly side thing of no relevance.

Beams is a contracted player, Collingwood have made a stand and been direct about what they want. They have the right to do that. It MAY bite their arse severely next year. I would be massively surprised if Collingwood blinks. Generally Collingwood has been one of the most accommodating clubs to get players to where they wanted to go. Brisbane are entitled to retain their young players if they chose to.

A trade that meets both clubs requirements cannot be done. The Line that he will walk next year you MUST accept whatever is offered is an attempt to pressure one side into accepting less than what they accept without it.

Comparing apples with oranges.
You overpay for gun KPP's as they rare as hens teeth.
Beams and Rockliff are both mids.

They are too busy saying no to Brisbane for the messiah.

Not that I care what Levi thinks, he chose to chase the cash, so he can deal with it.

Dogs offered more money, so cash wasn't the only issue.

We were reluctant to push our contract off up to beyond 2 years and in the ballpark of our better players for a number of reasons but ultimately those reasons meant he wasn't as important to us given players like Swallow, Cunnington and Ziebell.

If us being late with a 'reasonable' contract gave him cold feet then the club he wants to go to not even pitching an offer for him after a week of trading wouldn't fill me with great confidence that I was a high priority.

is 5 and 25 unders for beams?

yeah sure.

if bris had polec , yeo , or docherty leaving this year you would imagine it would be 5 and docherty (swap 25 for pick 30). they get greenwood , player x plus pick 5. but this year brisbane just dont seem to have players to move for the pies. there isnt more they can do. i dont blame bris for putting pick 5 and 25 on the table and saying take it or leave it. i wouldnt be asking mayes/aish or whoever to leave either.

the pies screwed up. they should have been right into orourke and gotten him to nominate them. gotten greenwood to nominate them. then work a trade where 5 and 25 became orourke , greenwood and picks. i mean if they are saying they want players not picks thats what they should have done. i can understand them wanting players and not picks , but on the other hand its up to them to convince players to want to come to their club. no one else is going to do their recruiting.

Seems like ego is going to do a fair bit of damage to the pies here

I wouldnt accept as a pies supporter the club holding him for another year to lose hm for free with an offer of pick 5 and 25 on the table. Pies are in the rebuilding phase, theres no use in holding on to beams for another year when best case scenario is they scrape in to the 8

Let him go, take pick 5 and 25 and move on.

Apples and oranges. One is a potential high profile trade get and the other isn't. You can take it anyway.

Really all that people are doing is trying to find any stupid link they can to try and prove an argument that doesn't really matter.

Would you take pick 5 and 25 for Gibbs if he wanted to move back to SA? You wouldn't and Beams is a better player.

Beams isn't a high profile trade? Tippett wasn't?

he aint going to walk for free next year. the difference will be its only a first round pick next year vs what they get this year.

its not that hard to comprehend

Geez champ, someone's a little bit worked up.

Schwab mentioned that Collingwood enquired about pick 21 so logic would dictate that Collingwood asked for picks 5, 21 and 25, and seeing as a deal hasn't been done then Brisbane must have said no. Don't worry though, logic isn't everyone's strong suit. Some people are more inclined for over the top and aggressive hyperbole.
so if we offer 5,21 and 25 what do we offer to geelong for christensen ? keep in mind geelong are actually being reasonable and are willing to accept 21.

Pretty obvious by now the deal won't get done. 5 and 25 is not enough for us to hand over a player of Beams quality and Brisbane aren't being genuine with what they have to offer, so now the question becomes what does Beams want to do next year.

If he was a free agent next year and could walk and we'd end up with pick 9 or 10 at best then yes I would make the trade

I certaintly wouldnt be playing this absurd hard ball with Brisbane either, only allowing them half the trade period to get a deal done

So it will be something like pick 8-14 next year, instead of 5 and 25 this year?

That doesnt seem to hard to comprehend either

Cos a guy with gambling issues worked so well last time ................... 21 and HUGE buyer beware tag with Christensen.

It's entirely possible that if you don't want to offer any players that you don't have enough to get both Beams and Christensen and need to make a choice between them. You can't buy things by going "Gee I really want this but I want to get something else as well later so can I have it for half price?", Brisbane wanting to get Christensen is none of our concern and if you prioritise him over Beams and don't have anything of worth to offer us after then you won't get Beams.

If I were a Pie fan I'd be content with 5+25...could be a couple of future guns. It looked like we were robbed blind last year - but we drafted well and perhaps came out on top.

Robbed blind is what the Hawks got for Buddy. Top 5 pick and another decent pick is not too bad. Maybe it's from being a fan of different sports where you see the signs when theres a year left and they want to leave and you cash in now. More now or less next year. I'd take the now.
