heh 'Brett Eddy'.

Draft him!
Also called for this when he was leading the Ken Farmer medal (SANFL goal kicking)
I just want nostalgia. Who cares now we've delisted Brennan. I wanted Brennan over to Waterman, Waterman with a delicate little chip to the run of (Jordan) Matera, here's where BRETT EDDY (say it fast) is welcomed at west coast he can deliver to (Zane) Sumich in the pocket.
Watch out when we also get Zac Mainwaring & Sonny Kemp. We wont just be bringing back the wings, we'll make them bloody blue again. Go the yellow Guernsey. Go nostalgia.. GoooooooooooooooooooooOoooooo.

I knew a physio student who tested leg strength at different footy clubs including the one I played at (EP and WCE were the other two).

He tested our leg strength by putting bands around our legs and measuring the resistance when we pushed our legs apart (no homo).

That could be an applicable method. No surprises, he said Hurn was the strongest out of all three clubs.

Holy crap...and this is why there is such a thing as a sports scientist and better yet strength and conditioning specialist. Pushing legs apart (leg abduction) isolates a couple glute muscles and is hardly a functional football movement. That physio should stick to professional massage. As for bench pressing 60kg for as many reps as possible, please explain to me how chest endurance is any indicator of anything to do with AFL? Unless you propose your players all run and carry the ball and fend off the opposition one after another till you reach the goals. In the case i guess we should propose a one arm dumbell bench endurance test! Not trying to be a dick but seriously like someone said we might aswell get them to toss kegs over a lake or something...About the only strength test I would propose is possibly a squat and even then its hardly necessary at this point.

Had to laugh when reading the GWS boards...they would want either Nic Nat or multi first round picks for coniglio...

Just for the hec of it here is another name to throw into the mix for the draft...Really sucks that hes from SA and probably would cost our first round but thoughts anyone??
Adelaide: Tom Lamb
Team: Dandenong Stingrays
Height: 192cm
Weight: 83kg
Position: Midfield

There should be a test for strength though.

Really?

One thing that can be added is strength after a kid has been drafted. At 18 no one is as strong as they will be after 4>5 years in the AFL system. So by testing strength all you gain is an idea on how advanced they may be at 18.

At 18yrs of age you test skills, pace, agility and football smarts. You also interview to determine maturity and attitude.

Lamb is an interesting one. His footage from the U/18s isn't great but that's all I've seen. He doesn't look like a pure midfielder, but more a utility type who can do minutes in the middle.

He's also not from SA but rather Vic Country

I'd say there's no doubt Pickett will reach our pick after he said he would like to come home at some point of his career if he went interstate. That being said I'm still not sure about him and am more keen on guys like Weller and Ahern. That being said we will probably go with the West Australian to prevent go home factor.

Best case scenario he could develop into a Godard-like utility.

I would hope our 1st round pick has at least one elite quality which stands out, whether its elite size, elite skills, elite speed, elite engine etc Weller and Ahern and more like guys we already have, which is okay I guess but continually taking the safe and conservative route is how we ended up like we are.

Afl rumours reporting that we have offered malcheski a 2 year deal and he wants 3

Yeah was mentioned yesterday, he's likely to either go to the Gold Coast who are prepared to offer the 3 or stay put in Sydney who are offering the same deal we are.

They test endurance which is something that can be improved significantly in the future, why not strength? I think there is validity to it.

I agree with what your saying which I reckon applies a bit to Ahern who is good in many areas without being elite. Weller on the other hand has elite skills and while he is not as quick as Pickett, he would be pretty close. He also has a more rounded game as he's already shown he can play an inside role and do it well for someone with his build and size. From what i've seen he looks a very classy player although I wouldn't be completely unhappy with any of the three players. Pickett would definitely add something we don't have though.

Sheesh Weller and Ahern before Laverde?

Both too small for mine. I like Weller, but compared to someone like Laverde it wouldn't even be a choice.

Laverde
Weller
Pickett
Ahern
I want to take weller over Pickett also . But weller over laverde is a hard one as it all about laverde's potential as a mid against weller on exposed form albeit div 2 .

im kind of 50/50 on leroy jetta and Jeff Garlett...surely at least one of them will work out as a fast small foward for us?

Im pretty sure the NFL do a bunch of strength tests for their draft including 100kg bench press for max reps.. they also measure arm and hand length and all sorts of stuff..In the end you have to look at it like this: There is no way genetic potential can be measured on these players. The recruiters can only measure the attributes have at the point and time of the draft. These guys are young and have spent the majority of their life developing fitness and skills, not much time in the gym pumping weights (even if they were pumping weights my bet is that most of them would not be training optimally). Hence you can see their potential in terms of fitness attitude skills etc, how strong they will be is extremely hard to judge (and in most cases probably less important). For example one guy might be stronger than another guy but once the second guy gets on a proper program he may completely dominate the first guy.

From what I have heard, Sinclair is the only player that has remotely been spoken about in regards to trade.

Is there any substance to this?

Sydney have offered one year but same money.

If Sydney offer two then he'll stay.

I personally really like the idea of bringing in Jeff Garlett. The bloke can make something out of nothing, has genuine pace and would be cheap. He's what's missing in our fwd line (point of difference to existing).
I dunno, I see him more like Hill, serviceable but has some flaws and will always be on the fringe. I'd rather put some games into Newman and Karparny and see what we've got.

He isn't offering anything Cripps isn't.

Cripps can run higher up the ground as well and isn't a pussy

As much as I love Cripps, Garlett offers far superior kicking skills among other things. Is a more natural forward.

Garlett is clearly a loose cannon.. his form has been woeful for a while and is 3 years older than Cripps. He isn't adding much to our side. Any advantage he has over Cripps or any other pocket we may play is negligible.

We will have about 3 or 4 draft spots. We need midfielders and a ruck.

Clogging it up with more middling talent in the forward pocket doesn't make sense.

Depends how you rate him. I think he's one of the better forward pockets in the comp. Obviously, though, I know nothing of how deep his personal issues are and that may rule him out as an option anyway.

Genuine crumbing forwards rarely impact deep december unless they are absolutely elite. Even then the likes of Milne were basically unsighted in GFs.

There are a handful or genuinely elite pockets. Breust, Ballantyne, Wingard, Betts, Rioli and Walters joining them... sure bring those guys in as all bar Betts can role through the midfield.

Garlett is a mile behind those blokes IMO - he is more lindsay thomas/travis colyer than those blokes
