Surely the timer was broken haha
No, i remember the media talking about how he was training for the sprint to raise his draft chances.

I'm sure if you trained for it, you could shave off quite a bit of time. I'm also sure if guys who were already quick (i.e. Pickett) wanted to get the best possible 20m time, they could run quicker than 2.83 sec, but what would be the point?

It's basically just a way for players to allay fears about their pace. I'm sure those who are already quick don't take it anywhere near as seriously. It doesn't say anything about how quick you are on the footy field.

So they say but he didn't finish in the top times for any of the sprinting or repeat sprinting tests. He looks like a sub 3 second guy but I wouldn't say much more than that. Has excellent evasive ability though.

I don't think Laverde did any physical testing at the combine ?

Yeah that isn't happening, he wasn't invited to the draft so no team in the top 10 are looking at him. Also we aren't into him more than any other player, that's just bs.

We'll be taking best available and have serious concerns about his foot, regardless to how he finished the year and his potential it's a big injury and one we can't afford to take a risk on if any risk exists.

I reckon if Cockatoo didn't have the injury risk and didn't miss the last year due to injury he would easily be a top 5 pick.. has all the tools (and from the sounds of it attitude) to be an elite player. Exactly what our vanilla midfield needs. I'd rather take the risk and he struggles with an injury than draft another safe option that adds to our list of 'decent' players.

That's very speculative.

I understand the fascination with Cockatoo but I don't think we are in the position to take a risk. We'll get a decent player at 11 either way and I won't be upset if it is Cockatoo but if it was Cockatoo instead of say Laverde I'd be querying it.

A team up top like the Hawks can afford to take risks. We're middle of the road.

Who knows? There's every chance if he'd played all year more weaknesses might have been identified and he'd go somewhere in the third round.

It is speculative but I won't be disappointed if we take Nakia. Looks good in a contest with good spread.

However if we pick him at #11, it means he would have gone #1 with a full season and I will declare that we won the draft:)

He'll most likely go to North IMO, five spots after us. Can they afford to take risks?

Well they think they are in premiership mode so yes they can, they also may look to take them with there early second rounder, pick 25.

I would pick Laverde over Cockatoo without too much thought, however believe Cockatoo to be a much better pick for us than Weller, Duggan, etc.

As a counter argument I'd say that we need to be taking risks and finding that elite player, especially in the midfield, to go from middle of the road to premiership contender.

Very true, however as I said when you look at his tools and his attitude I think its more likely that his value would be higher than lower.
