Tbh dont like the idea of completely trading out of this years draft - would rather we trade our 2019 first and one of this years picks in the 20's. Upgrade position to get kelly, keep a second round pick for this year and next.

I kinda hope we don't. I don't see Kelly as someone we need at all costs, we've got Gaff back. Whilst it's nice for us he wants to return to Perth and prefers WCE, that's Geelong's problem as he's their player.

Trading out of the first two rounds seems an old choice given there's elite midfielders supposedly moving for late firsts, and near-elite mids touted to be moving to top 4 clubs for a late 3rd round pick.

Think you might be underrating Kelly a tad bit, him coming in makes our midfield much stronger to go B2B.

Also, the situation at GC/GWS is a lot different to Kelly's.

I would suggest it’s his salary was ****** not his ankle

Bit of both.

On lots of money + can't play to top standard anymore.

Scrimshaw is basically the same as our gamble with JON. Seeing if they can realise talent somewhere else.

Basically Hawthorn have got a bunch of project players to gamble on for cheap. Not concerned.

I don't see a massive drop off in our current midfield that we couldn't wait for Kelly to be out of contract at the end of 2019. We're still going to be thereabouts in 2020. He's not worth what Geelong are reputedly asking, assuming that's more than 20 and 22.

You’re comparing JON to Scully?

So the chances of landing a gun from 20 on are 3 in 50.
Sound like good odds

You are the one making up the stats.

Last year Eagles landed O Allen and Liam Ryan with those picks. One is a premiership player and the other looks very, very good.

I am more than happy to use those picks and would prefer to than paying overs for Kelly. Could land both the Vic Country and SA U18 captains.

What pick was Kelly taken at again?

So much for those picks holding little value.

I hope we keep them. We aren't desperate for Kelly and can go harder next season and get him for less.

Scully ankle rumoured to be completely stuffed.

Basically Hawks are gambling they will get him on the park.
Imo just getting him off the books, they are going all out in a full salary dump this trade. Hawthorn worked a miracle with O'Meara, I reckon they'd back themselves to get Scully on park with some regularity

Cries are getting a bit louder for the AFL to step in on the trade though, will be interesting to see what happens

EDIT: Never mind it's a done deal, bargain of the century if he gets up. Swapped for a future 4th round pick, unreal

His family situation, with our commitment to him, means his position at Geelong is untenable. He needs to come home, and we have promised to bring him back. We very rarely fail to trade in a player who wants to come to us, so I don't expect this to be any different.

TBH I probably rate Kelly a bit more then others on here, but he needs to come back to Perth. We've told him we can do that, and walking away just wouldn't be the right thing to do by him.

I just heard on the radio fox footy are broadcasting the last two hours of trade week tomorrow.
I am guessing all these trades they have been told to wait to be announced until the final two hours tomorrow so it is good watching for TV. You gotta love the AFL.

You cynical bastard greatwhiteshark ...... but I actually think you right on the money media ratings = coin for the stations which = coin going back to the AFL ..... they do love their royalties does the AFL.

Scully must be cooked to be offloaded so cheap.

Or perhaps salary cap pressure? Far more important to have the room to retain Josh Kelly from an inevitable raid by North.

But still, Scully for a fourth round pick. It beggars belief at times. I still think it might end in tears for the Hawks but you have to admire the gamble on him and Scrimshaw, because if they manage to get regular games it will be the steal of the century.

I feel like I need to like all your posts no idea why though

I Know but they are brilliant at this stuff. So we can assume some of these deals are done and we have to wait until its broadcast in the last two hours.:)

Those complaining about the Scully deal ask your self this why are GWS so quick to do that deal.

He foot is shot .... seriously shot.

To the point that some Clubs did not even to put in an offer. If that’s not a massive red flag I don’t know what is .

Yes GWS just dumped a whole lot of coin of their list for a player they know has serious question marks against his playing future .

Smart piece of business.
