His family situation, with our commitment to him, means his position at Geelong is untenable. He needs to come home, and we have promised to bring him back. We very rarely fail to trade in a player who wants to come to us, so I don't expect this to be any different.

TBH I probably rate Kelly a bit more then others on here, but he needs to come back to Perth. We've told him we can do that, and walking away just wouldn't be the right thing to do by him.
The unfortunate reality is that Geelong don't have to trade him. If they won't accept 20 + 22 and other clubs won't give us the pick we need to satisfy Geelong then there is not much else we can do.

Scully isn't on that much cash these days. That large contract expired.

Basically a free hit for Hawks to get him fit again. And after what they've done with O'Meara you would back them in.

GWS gets relief of around 500k a year.

I like the cynicism of suggesting the announcement of already agreed deals but that would require a level of competence contract completely beyond the AFL

There’s a massive domino effect with these trades and numerous clubs, players and agents involved. Good luck keeping that secret

Scully ankle rumoured to be completely stuffed.

Basically Hawks are gambling they will get him on the park.

And if they do they have a former first overall midfielder, and if they don’t they lost pick 50 something?

It’s an absolute rort, have no idea what GWS get from this?

Those complaining about the Scully deal ask your self this why are GWS so quick to do that deal.

He foot is shot .... seriously shot.

To the point that some Clubs were not even to put in an offer. If that’s not a massive red flag I don’t know what is .

Yes GWS just dumped a whole lot of coin of their list for a player they know has serious question marks against his playing future .

Smart piece of business.

Deledio was older and had worse injuries than Scully and the Tigers got a future 1st and 3rd round picks from GWS for him. How Scully is worth only a 4th round pick is mind blowing

They are reported 2 million over the cap, even after the 20% increase last year. Fire sale stuff

Yep one would think so.

They certainly have a type. Highly rated junior not achieving what they could in the right environment.

Mitchell. Under valued at Sydney, over valued accumulator now.

O’Meara. A once in a generation junior midfielder brought down to the level due to knee injuries and poor injury management.

Scully. One of the hardest runners in the comp, serious ankle injury and salary cap squeeze.

Wingard. Lazy footballer, wanting a divorce from his old club. Could be anything, could fizzle.

Scrimshaw. Injured, hasn’t played enough football to justify moving on from a GC perspective. Essentially a top ten pick at bargain basement price.

GWS have a stack of players worth big coin. Kelly, cogs, Cameron, Greene, Davis etc

Means they need to ditch mid tier guys if they aren’t performing/injured/giving value.

So goodbye scully and Lobb.

If they fall away on field it doesn’t matter.

You need to generate currency when you lose players, they’ve done that until this year.

Then we'll just have to offer even more (in terms of picks). We've made a commitment to Kelly to help bring him home right now, to help out with his family situation and play for us. You can't just walk away from that, and spending another year in Geelong would be the worst thing IMO.

Scrimshaw - former pick 7, perfect replacement for Birchall if he replicates his junior form.

Apparently not, he rates it as preferable to playing for Freo.

They should use the week after finals for all the clubs to meet/negotiate trades and then then then have the following mon-wed to get all the deals done.

The clubs actually voted against that because it didn’t allow the team that won the premiership, and all its staff, to celebrate.

The whole point of playing is for a premiership.

I feel like Geelong have deliberately strung along WC with no intention of trading Kelly and holding up WC during trade week.

Imagine if WC had gone into the period knowing Geelong would point blank refuse, having the currency of 20, and 21 with people like Scully, Hall etc. looking for a trade. I wonder if this has been a strategic move to stuff a competitor.
