Think he'll end up on a list. Most likely as a rookie via DFA.
Only way HFC could return anything would be a token late pick just to make his the transaction easy.
Not sure he is up to it.

pretty much end of thread, why would any team put him on the main list or even trade for him when he hasnt shown anything in how many years.

just wait till he get delisted like brendan parfait, jack martin, etc.

I am sure the head honcho at hawthorn just waiting to results of the trade period before delisting him or re rookie him rather than what a lot of their supporters think which is to extract some value out of a trade for him.

If he was to become a delisted free agent I hope the Swans would at least ask the question of him and discuss how we could rehab him as a player.

For the following reasons
  • Supposedly we had interest in him in his draft year, and only took McDonald because North took Phillips and we didn't think McDonald would be available.
  • We have a good track record of rehabbing discarded players and he did actually have some good draft highlights in his draft year as an intercepting defender.
  • Rampe is 34 and only contracted for another season. Melican has come good but is injury prone, and McCartin is a bit concussion prone. So the extra cover could be helpful.
  • Personally I think he could become better depth than Hamling and Francis pretty quickly if he has the desire to prove himself and would provide genuine competition for guys like Edwards and Snell who haven't proven themselves AFL ready just yet.
  • That might not be enough to make a career for him, but as a delisted free agent on a rookie contract, it would be a low risk move for us.
I think your interest in him pre-draft dosnt count for a lot anymore. A lot of clubs had interest in him, hence his draft position. Turned out to be one of those cases where everyone got it wrong. Mcasey another recent example. Sme blokes arent up to it.

Maybe he comes good one day but righ now there's a plethora of similarly aged key positions floating around in state leagues with a lot more runs on the board.

Agree.
Like I said, only way a trade happens is if a team identify him early enough and offer a late pick, perhaps one they don’t intend to use themselves, to bring him in. No need to give up assets for someone you can get for free.
I guess the other way would be if he gets tied up in some sort of bigger transaction. But it won’t be returning anything of value, or even moving the needle on the value of broader assets changing hands in the deal. It’ll just be for convenience sake

Who ever gets DGB wants to get him early to get him settled and work on his fitness early preseason.

From all reports there’s no mention of off field behaviour issues. So unlocking his fitness issues is the key to unlocking his potential.

Skills are not on display as he has lost all confidence in him self in my opinion.

He is too slow for AFL slow of body and slow of mind

they probably dont need him, and would involve a reloation but Crows armed with Darren Burgess wouldn't be the worst move in the world. If it's fitness related Burgess is probably the guy who might be able to fix him

He isn't slow.

His speed off the mark and agility are one of his strengths.

He just doesn't have the fitness to play more than a quarter of decent footballing and when he's fatigued that's when the brain fades and mistakes start kicking in.

He's in a weird state where he needs to both build a physique that's strong enough to be a key position player but also needs to build a tank that's good enough to play at AFL level.

It's pretty ****ing hard to do both at the same time unfortunately. Maybe he will be a really sloooow burn but not sure if many clubs will have the patience anymore.

Clubs do not have the list spots to have the patients required for players like DGB.

I really wish the AFL would bring back the reserve teams or increase rookie spots.

Yeh that was my line of thinking.

List spots are tight at a lot of clubs nowadays. Can clubs really take the punt on somebody who might clog up a spot for 2-3 years before they start seeing AFL level performances?

The football ability is there (at least for about the first 30 minutes). I'm not sure if he will be able to get his body to a level of a footballer though.

lewis melican just played in a GF so there is a spot for a out an out FB. but in saying that why would you sign denver over ethan phillips who showed more all year with limited pre season and will get delisted?

They need to improve their KPD stocks not make them worse. DGB isnt better than Melican

Melican actually had a good game?

Its Rampe on his way out. In all honesty Sydney will probably come in with a big offer for Sam Frost who may go

If delisted they can also offer a one year contract and make him really work on his endurance and attitude.

The worst thing would be a multi year contract. He needs to be Stringer'd / Motlop'd.

I see potential in him going to another team and then turning out really good.

We all know he has potential, he is unable to build a tank! If 4 years in an AFL system doesn’t see basic improvement, it’s a real worry indeed. Maybe his body just isn’t suited to AFL of today.

He’s not a KPD. He’s a pure third tall (interception and nice kicking). He needs to focus on building fitness over muscle, tbh. And finding a side that needs a potentially elite third tall (St Kilda? West Coast?)
We have maric who was last years MSD pick 1 . He is 196cm and the best kick in our squad .

Many posters want him in the back line to make use of his kicking but at 19 and skinny he needs some gym time .

We also have Yeo reportedly moving back as to extend his career .

Think DGB is a bust unfortunately

Lists were reduced due to covid and never extended back out. Then the league added an extra player per game in the sub. there is no room on lists for players who are going to take time to develop.

Hard to see the value in drafting ruckmen now with list spots so tight. At best I think clubs might be able to afford 2 spots max for a developing tall with upside.

I think it's why we are seeing the mature ruck merry go-round now every trade period.
