Thought I might start up a thread for the best day of racing for the year.
Discuss in here all your tips for across the day, not just including the Derby.

For me, Almindoro is the one to back in the Derby, and I will post my thoughts on the remainder of the day later in the week.

Awesome day, can't wait. I don't think even Bendigo Cup day on Wednesday will distract me from what awaits us on Saturday lol.

I reckon there's a few of us doing rain dances for Digital Fortress..

my favourite day of the year

early noms will be out later today but my long range forecasts would be

SYT just strolls around in the LVS Mackinnon Stakes

Typhoon tracy in the myer classic - maybe a slight doubt due to being trained up for 2000m and this being only a recent change of plans but just too good

Rekindle Interest in the derby - think snowden will have retrieve much fitter than two weeks ago but always go with the form horse in the derby and i think RI will love the straight at flemington so can get further back than it did on saturday

lexus will be a tough race but will be interested in Maluckyday's odds - beating nobodies in sydney but looks like its in a better class

were gonna rock in the 1400m race now that it has hit some form in the toorak

what else do we have ?

salinger - no idea yet
coolmore - ditto
carbine club - ?
wakeful stakes - ?

cant wait

noms out. my favorite day of the carnival from a racing perspective. good depth in pretty much all races, looking at the nominations.
hay list vs all silent down the straight will be great. the mackinnon will be great to watch too. exciting stuff. hopefully the weather is good for the week and on saturday. cant wait

Great day can't wait.

Coolmore Stud looks like it will be a great field.

I like Rekindled Interest in the Derby, will love flemington and 2500 looks like it will be right up it's alley. Very happy I took the 9's around for it on Wednesday.

Wakeful should give us a good idea about the Oaks with Dizlago, Kittens, Maraaseem, Yosei, Brazillian Pulse and the like nominated.

Looks like the Mackinon will be a beaut field. So You Think and Shocking will both run by the sounds of talk today, although Kav saying they won't be throwing everything at Shocking and obviously so. Shoot Out also to have another hit out.

Interesting to see them keep Wall Street here this time despite the disappointing Cox Plate run. Alcopop and Linton also have nominated, but it looks like Linton will go to the Lexus Stakes, taking a similar path to the Melbourne Cup that Shocking did last year.

Hay List nominated for the Sallinger. Will also be good to see All Silent down the straight again, was a sight to behold last spring. Ortensia resumes perhaps.

The Lexus Stakes looks like it will be a hotly contested race with the last chance given to a lot of horses down the ballot order. Linton, Valdemoro, Exceptionally to mention a few have nominated.

and the Myer Classic wowee. We all remember what Typhoon did to Hot Danish last year, but Typhoon being set for the Cox Plate, might not be as sharp this year. Palacio de cristal another who has nominated.

I just can't wait every race just full of good horses and numerous chances. Best racing day of the year, should be a BEAUTY.

coming out of sydney

  • Jessicabiel will go to the Lexus
  • Once Were Wild will go to the Lexus
  • Hercullian Prince likely run in the Mackinnon
  • Descerado to have the weekend off and bypass the Mackinnon and Lexus this week.
  • Jessicabiel's terrible performance, blamed on not being able to get around the tight track at the Valley, and unable to slot in better than 3 and 4 wide (how it got there from barrier 5 still bewillders me)

Early forecast is for Showers Friday afternoon and evening and early morning rain for Saturday..:(

third week in a row we will have sun all week then rain for the on Friday night and Saturday .."shocking" timing:p

dampens the atmosphere a bit..but still 100k crowd strong will be there...

How many horses are likely to run in the 1400m event??? 16?? My dad's horse is about
18th currently in order of ratings. I guess a few always not accept......

Have the SYT/Fortress cox plate/Derby double....One leg down :p

The card is so impressive this weekend....quaddie will be bloody tough.

Can't complain with 50% better odds!

Good to see the short leg get up! Nothing worse than bombing out in a multi because of your shortest leg.

whats everyones thoughts on Smokin Joey is out to $18 on sportingbet im willing to forgive the last run due to the fact it swallowed its tongue!!! 18s seems well over for me!

Yeh if you were keen on Smokin' Joey who I don't mind, you would have to be willing to forgive after it's last run. Loomed up well but obviously problems stopped it's run.

always good to forget a bad run. eg lion tamer on the weekend. was my equal 3rd pick with hollowlea behind r.i and smokin joey. both placed @ $4.00. gotta forgive 1-2 bad runs because it will pay off when they get to juicy odds

Two eye-catching runs for the Derby outside the fave's have been Fortress in the Norman Robinson, and don't be discouraged by Lion Tamer getting overrun in the Vase. DF got to the line like a madman, and LT was one of the bigger runs on Cox Plate Day. The extra distance will suit both, and with a leader and swooper in these, there may be some value.

Rekindled Interest looked good, as did Retrieve, but those on the second/third lines of betting have done well in Derby's historically.

Have been given some mail on Lovemelikearock in the fillies and mares race. No idea on the field as yet, but heard there will be a go at it if it runs.
