Mathematically, if Essendon got stripped (please footy gods), is it still possible for WC to make the 8?

Yep. We're still well and truly in mathematical contention. If we win our last 7 we'll finish at 14-8 which will probably be good enough for 7th/8th.

Syd (H), WB (A), GC (H), Ess (A), Geel (H), Coll (A), Adel (H). Not a snowflake's we'll win all those games.

We couldn't have tried any harder in the first three quarters today, we just aren't good enough. We had you on toast for lengthy periods and couldn't turn it into scoreboard pressure. Story of the season really.

Cant begrudge Barlow for winning the Rosco but Mayne was my vote.

Has anyone noticed Sonson pkaying further away from goal in his last few games. Even saw him off the HB line a few times. Would love to have his silky skilss closer to the big sticks. He is a very damaging player and I feel his skill set is veing wasted.

Silver held his own today, but worried about next week. We must come out and tackle like crazy as Richmond's scoring power is daunting and we may not be able to stay in it.

Pav out will be massive, he's not 100% but he steadies us when the going gets tough. Happy to see Hill, Fyfe, and my favourite Mayney lift and grab the game by the throat - we forget how young these guys are, their best football is yet to come. And Sutty! :) I love the Subcliffe and how he backs himself every time. Sherro does pretty well - which spot is he being groomed to take over? The Duff of the future? Really missing the Duff kick in from defensive 50.

Oh - and props to MJ for being the defensive general we needed in place of Macca.

Awesome win!

Very true, while Alex was decent today it remains to be seen how he will go next week - though if Duffman can be fit enough to play then it will give Alex a bit of a chance at breaking even against the likes of Jack R and Ty V...

Sherro is much more of a future Hilly/Crowley than a future Duffman, Spurr has the lock on the future backline spots for now...

Watching the game as the only Freo fan amongst 10 Eagles supporters...victory was f**king sweet!!!

Hill, Fyfe, Mayne - brilliant games. Barlow played well too, great to see him nail those goals. Both times I said to myself as he was lining up "He's going to miss this", he proved me wrong! Not sure if RG worthy but still love the guy.

He had a great game but like many on here I would have had Mayne as best on ground.

I feel for you, I once watched a derby at the Inglwood Hotel packed with eagles supporters and that almost did my head in. Lucky Freo smashed 'em and most had left the hotel around the same time as their supprters left the ground. About 15 mins early. :)

15 minutes. That's quite late for them

I was at a mate's house and then after that went home to the boyfriend's family who just got home from the game with frowns on their faces. Good stuff :thumbsu:

Sleeping with the enemy.... Dangerous move.

After watching the replay, Barlow was everywhere and was our best when we were struggling through the 2nd and 3rd terms and to finish off with 2 goals made him a worthy medallist. I agree that Mayne was unlucky though and Hill whilst Brilliant at times he wasn't consistent for four quarters like Mick.

Spurr was fantastic again and Silvagni was terrific now that he is fit again and playing down back where he is much more comfortable.

Thought De Boer was disappointing and although he was OK on Priddis he made a lot of mistakes. Sandilands struggled a bit as well but did get better towards the end. Thought Sutcliffe was good as the sub and Sheridan was OK but not sure if he'll hold his spot over Suban/Duff if fit.

Gerard Healy is a massive Eagles sycophant so no real surprise.
And Daahwayne Russell is patron of the "anyone but Freo" commentary team. FFS..... kinda think the Channel 7 team is a bit insipid sometimes but then how I always yearn for them after a quarter of listening to those FOX nuffies!

I confess that being of the glass half full variety, I winced the two times Mick lined up for goal - love him and he's an awesome ball winner, but not exactly a reliable kick for goal. So glad he proved me wrong!

Mayney is always a bit stiff - works so hard, but it's not always given the recognition richly deserved. It's a mark of his good character that he goes about his work with great effort week after week after week. If there's any player that embodies the "great effort" ethos of Rosscoe footy, it's Chris Mayne.

Something that is perhaps being glossed over in the observations that we are not putting 4 quarters together is that we are the hunted now. Teams like Saint Kilda last week and West Coast this week have thrown the absolute kitchen sink at us trying to beat us at our own game of pressure football. On both occasions we've done the rope a dope and then put them on the canvas once they've shot their bolt.
I knew we would today. I used to be a cat on a hot tin roof watching Freo now I just sit their calmly as I know we will come. The exceptions to this of course are against the very best but we haven't faced Geelong and Hawthorn with our best team. Everyone else we've handled other than letting Essendon back in early in the year.
I thought Silvagni was excellent today considering the amount of ball that came in and the way it came in at times. Really seemed to have his mojo back for marking and backing himself in. Spurr was awesome as was Dawson and Johnson was amazing.
Their were some great performances but none more pleasing than watching our young stars Hill & Fyfe star when it counted. A very pleasing game against a very desperate and hard at it Eagles.

LOL, me too. When he pinched that mark off Shero (I think it was), I was crying what was he thinking. But he slotted it. Actually typified his game I thought, he seemed really determined to impose himself on the game the only way he knows how, but working harder than anybody else which nearly always overcomes any skill hiccups he occasionally has. He was very good today, no doubt about it.

In regards to your Mayne comments GP you're definitely correct but I'd be shocked if he didn't finish top 5 in the B&F this year, I'm sure he's well regarded internally.

He deserves to be there just for teaching Barlow how to kick set shots.

I meant recognition in the outside footy world. :) He's got my vote as interim Captain if Pav wants to focus on his game and pass he mantle on - until Fyfe is ready. ;)

I'll admit to the same calmness about watching us these days, however we generally aren't trailing at 3 qtr time and engaging in high-scoring shootouts so at this stage I was getting a little more nervous than I'd normally be. We seemed to have dramatically dropped our intensity off the last month or so. Could Pav & Sandi lacking match fitness be contributing to our drop in overall team defensive pressure I wonder?

No doubt. It will improve.

Haha same. I appreciate what Barlow brings to the table but I was cursing him for not knowing his limitations when he pulled rank for that mark.

Turned out his limitations weren't as bad as usual today.

TBH, it could have been a whole lot worse. For a split second I thought they were going to spoil each other and then we'd watch the ball rebound all the way for Darling to cherry pick another goal on the break.

Poor 2nd and 3rd quarters IMO. Same as the Saints game last week. Poor decision making and poor work rate hurt us big time and we saw the fruits of our labour in the last when we fixed it.

Late effing goals. Can someone explain to me why we always give up late effing goals against the Eagles?

Boo boys. God those Eagle fans are morons. Wish I took ear plugs to the game so I didn't have to listen to constant booing.

Hilly played probably his best game for the season. He finally stood up and took the game by the balls when it was there for the taking. He just needs to start doing it on a regular basis.

It was a great game to watch but I just wish we would start playing earlier. Better teams would have beaten us the last 2 weeks.
