Grundy was good, Pendlebury was okay considering he was blanketed by the best tagger in the game - was at least effective when he got the ball.

The others were trash.

Grundy's no1 job is to feed the mids and he doesn't do it well enough. watch the last 3 minutes.

I thought we found out a little bit about our list today. Not all bad in my view.

Hard to win a prelim without your best ballistic beast out there. JDG won games for us in 2018. We’ll never know whether he would have played in the GF but let’s face it, it wasn’t great prep. We need him playing 18 H&A and hitting form and fitness well before the eve of finals. Not flying to freekin Munich on a Hail Mary in mid-September. He would have thrived in today’s conditions if fit.

Noble needs a pre-season. He may end up being ok. It is unfortunate that we didn’t have any other similar types (e.g. Appleby was injured most of the year and struggled when his chance came / IQ injured late / Murphy injured all year). I can’t really fault Bucks for playing him as there weren’t too many fit speedy half backs waiting in the wings.

Don’t think the single game in 29 days suited Mihocek. He is a workhorse and thrives on touch.

WHE needs a big pre-season and needs to lift.

The one major positive for me this finals series was Darcy. I loved his dad as a player and have a real soft spot for him. He towelled up Cameron (a great player) today whose goals came when Darcy was not on him. His huge mark on the wing in the last quarter was one of the best marks I’ve seen given the moment in the game. I’m thrilled for the kid. I think he’s loyal to Collingwood and we may have seen him just turn a critical corner in his career. As his star rises, he will take his team with him.

I didn’t say he was perfect. I said he was good. Over 70 hitouts, 10 clearances and 25 touches. Wasn’t one of his best days that’s for sure, but he was still good.

Ahh well, it's a shame but ultimately we played a very 2019 Collingwood game. Rolled in far too late to do the work we needed to. The awful thing is that when it matters, we lose the midfield battle comprehensively... the area where we should be the strongest.

Ultimately we're a pretty good side. At full strength we're a handful for a lot of teams and a genuine crack. But we're missing something that can take us to the next level.

It hurts but visibly we had no business progressing through. A lot of stuff to clear up and improve on for 2020.

Forget what your opinions are of Richmond and their supporters. For the sake of the integrity of the game, back the Tigers next Saturday.
i don't understand your first sentence about progressing through.
if ever a team was gifted an easy passage through to a Grand Final, this was it.
a game against an overrated Geelong, then a walk up prelim against a depleted GWS.
this loss is worse then the GF loss to West Coast last year

Yes.
A key forward.

really no excuses devestated! should have played sharanberg , that could have realised Moore in the forward line in the last 5 minutes.
with the cattle that we had on the feild should have thrown Howe in the forward line in the last 7 or 8 minutes

Imagine also if we had a few mids that could actually manage a centre clearance.
They can't even manage a clearance against their ~50yo coach at training.

Looking forward to the list changes this off season, should be interesting.

Any particular reason why Grundy kept tapping back towards GWS goal?!?!
How about funking punching it forward?!?!

I'm, disappointed & frustrated, but not devastated. I save that emotion for grand final losses.

My record is now 11 grand final losses and 9 prelim losses to go with 2 flags.

That is 22 preliminary finals for 2 flags. And the club, and most of us supporters, keep bleating on about how we are the biggest club in the land. That is not the record of the biggest club in the land, that is the record of a club continually punching above its weight, but never quiet the best - there is always 1 or 2 teams better.

And it looks like staying that way.

Today was ours for the taking. Coniglio, Whitfield and Greene all out of their midfield - and they smashed us in the clearances. That could only happen to us, usually in a prelim or grand final.

We need to make tough decisions about our list (WHE, Treloar, Phillips etc.), but we wont. We never do. That's not the Collingwood way.

All this talk about swapping Grundy for a couple of 1st rounders is ridiculous. Every draft pick is a risk, whether its number 1 or 61. We should be building out team around him. What we need is a midfield coach with a brain, and some midfielders who can at least spell the word clearance.

Our backline is fine. Our forward line is dysfunctional. Checkers is not good enough to play as the main target. He should be 2nd or 3rd. We wont be landing a big fish like Lynch or Cameron because that is not the Collingwood way (but hey, lets swap out the only big fish we have). We'll settle for someone like Patton, because his injury profile fits in so well with our current list.

Maybe we need a few more father/son selections.

Our backline could use more run and carry imo. Crisp is the only one who provides consistently and when he’s shut down no one else steps up. Other than that it’s great though.

Didn’t deserve to win so I can stomach that loss

Embarrassing second and third quarter with an extra man and a massive advantage in the ruck

Would of got smashed by the Tigers next week

I could done easy as well IF Scumps where so 1 Sided

Who was Haynes playing on? Every time he got the ball no one was near him. Would’ve thought putting someone like Mayne on him could’ve helped

We looked like a different team in the first 3 quarters.

IMO Grundy is leaving.

If this is true we are screwed. He is one of the main reason we have got to where we are the last couple of years.

As a member of a club that specialises in not making grand finals, commiserations. That would have been a tough one.

I see a lot of parallels between Geelong and Collingwood at the moment. Both show flashes of awesome footy but for some reason both go into their shells for patches of big games. Hard to think it's not coaching and age profile related.
