First time poster. Back playing ammos after playing in a local league for a couple of years and then having the last few years off all together.
Can't wait to strap the boots on next Saturday for the bloods against SFX. I just hope they have a team and the required off field helpers to make them viable.
A few questions I have:
Who are going to be the 'gun' goal kickers in D3 this year?
Best ground to play on?
Which teams should be the contenders in the opinion of those on here?
I look forward to chatting about all things D3 this year. Go Bloods!!

So Dima went to Old Carey... Any word on whether he's lining up in the seniors this week? I can't imagine he'd leave SFX unless he was going to play seniors in A grade.

Wouldn't have been guaranteed a gig. All up to preseason etc. good to back himself, but if he's a 2's player in A still good standard.

I'm told they've pulled out today, a bye in D3 this year

Aquinas were notified this afternoon that SFX have pulled out for this season. Fairly disappointing outcome and I really feel for the SFX boys as they've always seemed like a good bunch of fellas when we've played them the last few times.

This now leaves a big question for the VAFA. Surely they have to redraw the entire fixture as it isn't equitable to have teams like us who were only drawn to play SFX once as compared to sides who will now receive two byes.

Perhaps an 18 round, 16 game season with 2 byes per club as seen in D4 in recent seasons?

Real tragedy as the Xmen are a great club full of great people. I hope this is only 1 season and they regroup and make it back next year.
On the fixture, if they are going to redraw it, I hope they consult clubs that have booked in functions and luncheons based on when they have home games. Being a 12 team comp with 18 rounds, the draw is never going to be fair and true but some teams getting 2 byes and some getting 1 makes this even more lopsided. Not sure how the VAFA can sort it out. Maybe bring South Mornington back up to replace SFX, making Div 3 12 teams again and Div 4 10 teams, thus eliminating a bye in Div 3 and Div 4

There doesn't seem to be an official statement by the VAFA up on the website yet. You can't have some teams having 1 bye and others getting 2. Bringing South Mornington up and putting them in where SFX would have played could be pretty disruptive to their social calander which is a lifeblood to a lot of clubs not to mention another presumably tough season on field. No easy answer in this one unfortunately unless the VAFA offer South Mornington or whoever finished 'third' some compensation to come up. My comeback will have to wait a week by the looks of it!

Tough on the league and the other clubs for SFX to pull out so late but you can't blame them, they simply had to do everything they could to field two teams by round one and were unfortunately unable to do so.

You guys are welcome to have South Mornington back if you wish!

No official statement but the fixture has been updated and Round 1; Aquinas have the Bye

As a thought to maintain the integrity of the ideal 10 team leagues for as deep as possible (even draw as opposed to a uneven fixture), thought off dropping a side back to D4, also gets rid of the bye.

At this late stage hard to see what can be done, fairly disappointing that it is left to such a late stage for decision to be reached. I can't see any easy fix, that is not going to upset most. As a guess I envisage that D3 will go ahead with 11, and be rescheduled as a 16 game season as D4 was a few years back.

Genuine rock and a hard place scenario

There are 3 options to go with that will create a fair and equitable draw:
1) Re do the whole draw so each team gets the two byes
2) Promote from below and that team drops straight into SFX's spot in the draw
3) Drop a team (no idea who) back to D4 and each team gets two byes
Either way, time is not on the leagues side as kick off is just over 48 hours away!!

Without any real reasons as Round 1 can be a lottery:

Emmaus St Leos vs Albert Park
UHS-VU
vs Power House
West Brunswick vs Hawthorn
Swinburne Uni
vs Glen Eira
Eley Park vs La Trobe Uni
Aquinas -- Bye

Clint, be honest. You have absolutely no idea about this division.( or any other for that matter) I suggest you only like to see your own post here because your mum won't censor you. I don't know why else you bother.

Round 1 ladder will probably hold the final 6 teams. The positions will change, obviously. I expect the top six as of Saturday to be the contenders. The rest are challenged to disprove this theory. The surprise was the margins of some games. Being round 1 one would think clubs put their best players on the track.
