Great, so lets ditch the drug testing and start the afl wide investigation. Multiple clubs found with suspect programs = multiple clubs investigated. If multiple clubs were investigated and put through the ringer like EFC have been it would be the end of AFL. Ping one club, make and example, appear to 'make a stand' against drugs in sport, job done AFL/ASADA.

"Biologically advanced tissues"...that's the belief that got Hird into trouble in the first place.

I suspect the AFL had knowledge that something untoward had taken place at Essendon long before it became public. If there's an investigation to be had, direct it there.

What was the fight over?

Ummm was working in a squat rack, with all the weights ready to go as I worked through the set. Some guy just walks up and starts taking the plates without asking (pretty much accepted gym decorum). Asked him nicely to leave them, ignored me, asked again ignored, so I grabbed his arm and stopped him. Pretty dumb I guess but weights release testosterone so I tend to be a bit touchy until I hit burn out latter in the session.

Yes I am a dickhead.

cheat is an interesting word.. Richmond in a game a few years ago rushed behind after behind after behind to win a match by just walking it over time and time and again to run the clock down

Against the spirit of the game yes
Bringing the game into disrepute yep
Cheating ? well yes
Did they get kicked out? no

Well I had my personal trainer with me who is a machine so I was pretty secure! This guy was pretty big and was in the Doherty's gear so probably juiced up.

Not only is that a stupid comparison to make, it's also not an accurate summary of what happened. Less than 10 seconds was taken off the clock in that incident and Bowden still kicked it out before the siren sounded with enough time for Essendon to win the ball back and have another shot. It wasn't against the rules and it wasn't even against the spirit of the game. It was a rushed behind and then another one and then a kick out.

Have to try to separate football biases with common sense here.

I believe that some at Essendon set out on a path they never expected to see the light of day, and it wasn't just Dank and Robinson. Whether they did so because they believed it was their only option because other clubs were also 'cutting edge' I am not sure.

I can totally see that the players did not know what was happening but equally did not want to know, but were seduced by results and promises of success. Hard to believe that one of forty odd players did not seek to do their own research and did not know the onus was on them to do so.

If it was my team, I'd be insisting on a clean out of personnel, but secretly hoping for the technicality to get us off to avoid years of pain. I'd probably also argue based on that technicality but know deep down we had been rightfully labelled for the next generation or so.

The issue here is that justice has to be served and precedents are important. If you want a clean sport, you can't make exceptions for team sports while burning individual sports simply because the former makes things messier and has a greater effect on the sport. I feel for some of these other athletes having their lives ruined for their ignorance while a football team's ignorance is a defence. You could argue that this is more brazen, more damning, because of the failure of a duty of care of many more people.

Truth, how many Bombers supporters are hoping to get off on a technicality and then say to your accusers 'up yours, told you so, no infractions'? How many will deep down feel truly vindicated?

You could add a whole lot more like Hird's history and familiarity with Charter; the "coincidental" poolside meet up on the Gold Coast; ...etc...

Seeking to escape punishment via a technicality appears to be THE last option available to the club, it's just ridiculous that we can have come this far and the EFC want to suppress the findings of the investigation.
You'd think an innocent injection regime would want all the facts laid bare, then have the opportunity to counter any claims they thought were incorrect.

It's an admission of guilt and the public aren't buying it.

So let me get this straight
Essendon last year say we want the AFL and ASADA to investigate what happened
Essendon this year say it's illegal for the AFL and ASADA to do a joint investigation

Right
Probably why they wanted it to happen so that they could make the claim if they got done.

I feel for the players but the club should just accept they **** up, take what's coming and move on. Most athletes will tell you YOU are responsible for what goes into your body. ASADA & WADA are giving the players the chance to get light penalties, but now with Essendon launching legal action I feel they'll be hit with full force. And if Little thinks we are all behind them then he's got rocks in his head!

I've changed my tune.

IMO Essendon should have self-imposed sanctions (reduced because of self action) of 12 months for each of the show-clause players, terminate Hird's contract and finally publically admonish Dank/Robinsons actions on behalf of Hird's directive and the footy department consent (if not knowledge of what was happening).

This bullcrap "team pride" attitude of sticking together and fighting the truth that is coming out, is ruining their culture, and threatening to ruin them in the entire public eye for a decade.

I like Jobe Watson, Flecth, Goddard, Chapman, and Mark Thompson. I even like Doc Reid.

The rest are purely dog campaigners from top to bottom that they aren't accountable. Should pay for their actions.

I still feel for the players because they're largely pawns in all of this but I want to see Essendon's administration, both past and present, fry. Perpetuating bullshit.

It's almost incomprehensible that no player sought an opinion from anyone outside the club. Nobody mentioned the frequent injections to their manager, AFLPA, opposition players, wife, family, local GP - nothing. Footballers aren't all equally stupid and/or trusting.
