I think our backline injuries to Richards and a resurgent JJ has killed our season and players like keath/gardner/O’Brien aren’t up to the afl standard which has killed us as well as poor goalkicking, the reluctance to shift Naughton to the backline is the only blame bevo can wear here imo

Interesting how Man City changed their system over and over through out the season past.
Not comparing City with the Dogs .
Different game and economies.
Just the tactical nous.
And changing things up as required
To be ahead of the rest.
The hand ball game worked under certain circumstances then it didn't.
Naughton in the goal square doesn't always work.
Even Haaland has to defend sometimes under Pep.
Pep has put together a squad that has the skill and tactical nous to be able to carry out his tactics. Not many groups of players could do what Pep requires.

Pep has also relied heavily on transfers and financial muscle, something that is unavailable within the afl system

Yes agree he has the upper hand in terms of finance and transfers but he still needs to get some big big egos to play as a team and compete not only in the EPL but also ECL.

Very astute manager and sets up his team well very savvy operator

It’s amazing what over a billion pounds spent on transfers and 115 charges of breaching financial fair play, including tampering sponsorships, can do.

It’s a real miracle story 🤩

The triumvirate of JJ, Ed & Dale was an absolute weapon when we were up and running. Too much pressure on Dale to be the best ball user coming out of the back half now. Led to some of those horrible switches we saw going to or from Gardner & O’Brien against the Cats.

Really need those two jets back sooner rather than later.

Somewhat true. But the selection has been terrible. Hannan getting way too many games. JOD getting a few more than he should have. Non selection of Cleary and probably others in the VFL but they keep recycling TOB, Keath, Gardiner. No extra work is put into goal kicking, apparently “less is more!”. That last one especially, is batshit crazy, but selection issues are close, selection integrity has always been poor under Bevo.

I’m a United fan, I hate city.
To bring it back to the Dogs you can have the greatest coach in the world but if the players aren’t capable of executing it’s pointless. A great coach needs to get pragmatic at some point.

Selection has been interesting, issue is the VFL team either has first year players with interrupted pre seasons or those no better at all than those in the AFL.

We keep recycling TOB, Gardiner, Bruce and Keath as the only player on our list that could not possibly be better than those is Naughton who will not be moved to CHB so there are zero options.

Had JOD who showed small glimpses been played as a replacement for one of those 4 there would be some understanding if you refuse to move Naughton back, but given he was used forward, clearly way off AFL level there and moved Lobb from his strengths yep hard to argue with this position you have put forward and I am not in the get rid of Bevo group

Feck me sideways . This week's team selection just sucks what little joy Thursday night at 6:30 had left . Drop a couple of young players and a veteran, I agree with that, but then he brings in a load of plodders he dropped two weeks ago because they're plodders.

Plodding hell.

I hereby decree Bev's whiteboard 'The Titanic' and his green magnets are thencefore declared ' the deckchairs'

Might as well go full plod and bring Emmett “Plod” Dunne back.

Would be the best thing to happen to us to be honest
I get where you are coming from.

I get way too emotionally invested at times and lose the enjoyment of the game.

If I just take a step back and put it in context it helps to find the fun in it again.

Who else was he to bring in?

If you watched the VFL on the weekend TOB was our best defender by a mile and Buss is the only other alternative but isn't near ready, Hannan kicked 5 and was our best forward then McComb and McNeil were the best in our midfield.

Our list depth is abysmal and this is just proof of that nothing to do with coaching

The problem is. If Bevo stays true to form. Arty Jones & O'Donnell might be the next Buku & Cleary. Where we don't see them again for the next couple of years as McComb, McNeil, TOB & Hannan run around perfecting the art of momentum stopping and lace out kicking to the opposition.

Buku played 1 solid AFL game against the pies and was fairly poor in the rest, He's also been fairly mediocre at best in the 2's compared to Hannan/TOB who genuinely deserve selection when they play there.

This idea that we gift games to the whipping boys is just not true they are always the ones performing at VFL level hence their selection and outside of Cleary no one else has been remotely close to deserving selection

This is a genuine worry.
Who was the last draftee that was regularly integrated into our team?
Bailey Smith? Jamarra?
We have not gotten value from our later picks. This is either through poor drafting, developing, or selection.
That we keep going to the Hannan, McComb, O'Brien, Gardner, etc. route at this stage is embarrassing. We genuinely seem to have nothing coming through. And worse, of those we do have under 25 they seem to be given limited opportunities to settle into a role at senior or even VFL level.

I reckon that's harsh on Buku. He played forward/back & ruck. Did ok for more than a couple of games.
By your reasoning we should be de-listing Lobb and McComb right now as I would say neither have played a solid AFL game.

Not harsh on Buku at all, he is not showing anything more than those being selected ahead of him.

McComb should be de listed he is a great worker but not a genuine AFL player but good on him for working hard to get there and he will always give 100%

Play Lobb where he plays best, deep forward changing ruck, not as a wingman or up high. He did kick nearly 40 AFL goals only last season so that is a false equivalence

Buku showed more than what Lobb is showing now.

'Play Lobb where he plays best'

The same should apply to Buku, O'Donnell, Macrae, Daniel, JJ , etc, etc.

Did anyone hear old Greg on SEN this morning breakfast show (very end of Geelong/Port review). He laid out all the selection blunders we keep committing. He reckons with Bruce and JOD down back last week it probably cost us the game (can’t argue). King and Cornes agreed. Good to hear some media heat on our selection revolving door, with the same faces who don’t give us anything. We could have beaten the top team last week, and Geelong the week before, but…
