Do you think Freo is a Premiership contender ?

If Freo can finish second then with possibly 2 home finals it is possible to make a GF. Then anything goes.

Freo need to get past Pavlich 30+, Mcpharlin 30+ and Sandilands old and injured. These guys are in their declining years. Freo's best team is probably out there now.

No way. Pavlich and McPharlin are both definitely in our best 22

I think people are seeing that we are winning well enough without Pavlich, McPharlin, Sandilands, Barlow, Mundy, Walters, Ballantyne, Ibbotson etc. when we have had to, but all those guys in the squad at once makes for a pretty damaging team

I'm sure if we drew you guys in the finals and you had the option of playing against us with Pavlich and McPharlin in the side or without Pavlich and McPharlin in the side, you'd choose the latter option everyday hands down - as would most opposition supporters

They are no longer 100% requirements for wins, but they help a helluva lot

Fair enough but thats your opinion. Just think that reputation for past deeds is colouring your view.

Pav has hardly played this year. Is 31. Can you hold your hand on your heart and say he will definately make that much difference. Just a context for you. Johnathon Brown is the same age. If he plays for Brisbane or not, no longer really matters because his match winning abilities are behind him.

No matter how well these champions played in the past, IMO father time has caught up with them both. They may be serviceable players still. Their average games still ok, but that is all they are capable of.

I would love to be proved wrong but IMO I just don't think so.

Anyway good luck in the finals. Good for both our clubs to get there.

Seriously you have no idea.

McPharlin is being picked by journo's as this years AA FB. Pav had 20 possessions and 3 goals in his first game back from injury. Nah, they both suck.

Just seriously, no idea.

Wow, just WOW!

I dare you to watch Pavlich this week and tell me if he played and average game.
He is going to come out breathing fire at levels over 9000 with 3 weeks off with suspension and not injury.

Write him off at your own peril...

Pavlich's two games back before his suspension were pretty promising, 20 touches and 2 goals against the Saints, and 3 goals against the Eagles.

Not saying "he's back" and both those sides are nothing special, but that's a decent enough contribution.

2-3 goals extra a game can make a difference, and at least he'll take the best defender. I would rather play finals with him than without him.

Only one of those four players really matter in the scheme of things, Pavlich and Sandilands are merely relics of the past and Ballantyne has barely missed a game

All were out for the Richmond game.

McPharlin's absence hurts Freo more than the absence of any other player. No one else gives the team the advantage he does.

Says someone who clearly hasn't been paying attention. I expect more from a fellow Arsenal supporter:p.

BTW do you reckon we will get Suarez?

Well we shall see when they play against another top eight side. Lucky you have a soft draw now and can get these guys into form. Still my opinion stands. We shall see when the finals are on, how much of a difference they make.

As far as your other bleeding heart fans, perhaps they should harden up and be objective about their teams weaknesses. Listening to the bleating you would think you don't have any.

Suarez don't know. May be priced out of the market. Don't want the gunners to put all eggs in one basket.

brown hasn't been at his best for a while now, pavlich nearly won the coleman last year. a fair bit of difference between the 2 at the current stage of their careers. mcpharlin was in AA form before getting injured, doesn't say much about the rest of the competition if a "serviceable" player makes AA in a pretty competitive spot.

the thing most people don't seem to understand is that these blokes are just the icing, we can win without them but why would we not be excited for them to come back into the squad? mcpharlin is our general down back and pav is our captain..

fair enough its your "opinion", but at least try to have some factual evidence before you start writing off champions of the game.

You know you are a premiership contender when you go into a game
-without your best Defender (McPharlin)
-and without your club's best ever player (Pavlich)
-and without your most lively forward (Ballantyne)
-and with a complete lack of match fitness to your gigantic ruckman (Sandilands)

And your opponents STILL think beating you is a creditable and significant victory.

Nah its just fremantle

Last season? Why are you talking about last season? Last season port power were a basket case, crows were in a prelim and almost won, GC were terrible, west coast were pushing top 4, why on earth would you use a game from last year to predict finals outcome this year? If your using history as a predictor of this year then Geelong will win the flag since they win it every other year. But if you go on THIS year, freo have been thumped by the top 2 teams.

The final will be played at the G not Kardinya Park, we shouldnt be missing as many players as we did when we played them this year and thirdly its a final not a regular game.

Have a think about things before you post rubbish.

As I said only McPharlin matters. You should be able to cover Ballantyne for a week or two and you can certainly cover Sandilands and Pavlich, in fact you are better side without having to carry them

Bleating. That's funny, I was about to use that term about Richmond supporters. Perhaps if Freo were drawn to play a team in the 8, we could beat them and you lot would shut up about how much blood is spilling from your anus.

Plenty have been objective about our weaknesses and one of our main weaknesses is depth in our KPP. That is why your suggestion that McPharlin, Pavlich and Sandilands aren't important is farcical, because they get replaced by Taberner, Silvagni and Hannath.

Look forward to when you change your username to "TO WHO?????"

That's right Timmy, Collingwood are the only team to have injury problems this year

Opinion doesnt need research. Its opinion.

You dont need Sandilands at his age and with your quality depth options, Pavlich is past it and while possibly a bonus if he plays theres certainly no guaranteed he'll be worth much based on 2013 form, and Ballantyne while a very good player can certainly be covered for a short term (hes only missed three games this season, some of them his own fault).

Hmmm so when Pav goes and kicks 6 goals in a final we will come back here and re-evaluate? He had 3 injury affected games at the start of the year and people are that quick to forget he was a top 5 in the comp player for the second half of last year.

Yep Pav is past it and should retire immediately. :thumbsu:

People think injury interruped seasons rarely get back on track let alone lift for finals

As has already been pointed out, Pav was well and truly back on track before missing the last 3 games through suspension. He will come out fit and firing with enough games to perfect his touch before the finals. It wasn't ideal at the time, but we will now reap the benefits.
