Dockers Vs Pies Game Thread

If you bothered to read the thread you would see that my objection to Mundy arises from him dogging yet another contest (this time in the first quarter involving Rocca).

I saw the challenge myself on tv, and I have subsequently spoke to Belnakor (who was at the ground for the game) and Belnakor had a clear view of the incident and even some Pies supporters sitting near him commented on the fact that it was a gutless act.

How many times in Mundy going to get away with dogging contests?

thats utter crap i was also at the game and didnt see any dodging contests by mundy and certainly no comments from woods fans cause they didnt see it either .get over your hate of mundy ,he is one of our coolest under pressure and his disposal was first rate

i am filled with confidence when mundy has the ball in his hands. without the ball he seems to be a liability

bengals you make a good point. josh carr has escaped a lot of criticism since becoming a docker. we see the port adelaide version of josh carr twice a yr.

without wanting to whinge too much today was just such a let down. im sure no one is feeling more dissappointed than the players and the coaching staff.. what an opportunity today was.. play round 1 at the G.. a real chance to go 1-0 with 3 games at subi to come. would have been such a positive start to the season if the boys coulda stepped up

I'm disappointed today but I think they where the selections Harvey had to make and now we will see the reaction from the coaches. It's funny but Harvey is our savior(apparently)but does he have to do it in 1 week?

Mundy is about 3 weeks away from a "Josh Hunt dog act incident".

His dog acts seem to increase with every game because people like Reveler (and seemingly a few fools on the FFC coaching staff) are telling Mundy that this is acceptable.

He will eventually hit rock bottom where his gutlessness will result in us directly losing a game, or directly result in one of our players getting seriously injured.

Occasionally you should take your hand off your ****...it'll do you good

Yeah they do...you don't have to be Glen Archer but when it's your turn you've gotta go

what he does when he has the pill makes him worth it.

When the players who are designated the inside midfielders go missing. People like mundy turn into scapegoats.

We had 1 palyer int he top 5 contested possesions today. tells you quite alot about our team structure.

The difference was Rocca booting 6 and our key forwards, Pav and Taz booting 1 between them. Their key forward made it hurt where it counts, ours well it's history.

Yep and hardly any mention of poor games of Jcarr and Solomon yet Schammer and Gilmore for example are getting trashed.
Who is it?

The big thing in all this and you can say what you like about the disposal but our key forwards were beaten. Pavlich was forced up the ground to get a kick and Brown did a good job to nuetralise one on one contests. Farmer looked good further up the ground but OBrien beat him when he was closer to goal. Tarrant (I think we should start seeing him as a roaming HFF not a key forward) was just beaten and had a hard time getting into the game. McPharlin and Headland were our most effective forwards but the game comitte obviously needed them elsewhere.

I thought McPharlin was very good. Headland after his preseason form was poor when in the midfield, we need him to step up in the midfield. He is the most important player for us this year IMO. If he is able to step up in the midfield we go somewhere otherwise we struggle. Scary thought!

I am not a MCarr hater (like a lot on this site) but I have to say he should be dropped for next week, his disposal was poor and he didnt get a lot of the football. I am unsure if he was shadowing anyone which is his forte. I was disappointed in Schammer, this guy has better skills than McManus and good endevour but his decision making is the worst in the AFL bar none. His mistakes are always made in the midfield on a turnover when everyone is streaming forward or in the back half and it hurts bad. I dont know what the answer with him is.

My biggest concern with this game though was mainly the coacing staff for there inability to change things up. When they did like McPherlin forward it worked. The pies biggest weakness tall backs was not exposed. Wakelins lack of pace was not exposed. Why not throw a Michael Johnson (who struggled) forward with McPharlin and Pavlich and Sandilands.

Guys whom I think should be worried come Thursday-
Matt Carr and Mark Johnson.

Include one of Warnock, Campbell, Murphy or Drum (and play McPharlin forward)
and one of Ibbotson or Palmer.
Another who is not far off is Mayne and maybe he should come in for Black, we are not good enough to carry guys who are not 100%.

The thing is, peake has a habit of over posessing the ball, has poor decision making, often handpasses to team mates who are under more pressure than he is, is not a strong over head mark, and is not a geat tackle.

If Peake is not bringing speed to the team, then you have got to wonder what is is doing out there.

The fastest player around the ground appears to be Gilmore by any objective assessment.

Peake and Gilmore are very similar. They both get the ball, run at a million miles an hour then shank the kick straight to the opposition way too often.

Yep - he faded out badly when the game got tough. In the last quarter when the game was on the line, he went completely missing.

Yeah cause he was the only one. Lets put the Mundy hate aside and actually support our team.. or is that too difficult to ask, so we'll just end up like Collingwood fans.

Mundy had 3 disposals in the last, but he was not alone. Bell only had 2, J Carr had 1, Gilmore stopped, others stopped. Headland was miles above everyone with 9 possies, most when the game had already been won.

I think we just need to face fact's that Mundy is soft as butter, but I think the guy has enough upside to warrant a regular spot.

His kicking and decision making is exceptional which counter's being the worst tackler in the competition.

Sabre, this is exactly correct. I've been watching Mundy careful as I'm his buddy and I've noticed a few things...

POSITIVES

Gets a heap of the pill across halfback
Makes good decisions - is rarely rushed
Good user of the ball by foot

NEGATIVES

Poor defensive pressure, e.g. tackling and sheparding
Often appears to be stationary when only a few metres from a contest

Weighing those factors up, it's hard to make a case for dropping him, given that there are players with most of his downside and not much of his upside.

The backline didn't lose us the game yesterday. As always, it was lost in the middle.

Exactly, people tinkering with back and forward options are ******ed, it's the frickin middle we are crap at. If they could just dispose the ball to an AFL standard however, we would have won yesterday even with the bad/slow mids. Maybe the disposal is what makes them bad, but geezus, we should be able to rely on these players to pinpoint a pass, not lollipop it over or on Pavs head.
