Your team threw in the towel today before injuries hit
Honestly don't disagree today but its a problem over the whole season and any chance we would have had today to limit the damage went out the window in any case. Anyone that just dismisses the factor is either ignorant or a dumbass.

Yeah fair enough
Club seemingly prepared to throw blokes into the fray when resting probably more prudent call

Fitness is another discussion entirely

They botched the last 6 weeks of the season as badly we have we just had a much bigger buffer.

Management of players was horrific example risking Curnow today.

The poster was clearly talking about the injury-prone players on the list not about the top-5 players. This isn't basketball - you don't win games with just 5.

Every club has their “injury prone players”. Also mentioned all the top draft picks over twenty years.
Gold medal for excuses your club, its comical.

Boring. You have the list. Deal with it.

In what universe is it an excuse? It is an error by the list management team for keeping them this long and/or the conditioning staff for not getting them right.

Need to stick with him. Only GC has played more players in the past 6 weeks than Carlton. That's the death-knell for a finals aspirant, as there's no opportunity for the team to settle.

Think he's a good coach that's developed a system that complements the playing group. Carlton need to dig in and back him in IMO, otherwise it'll be another 25+ years before they even think about pushing for a flag again if they revert to previous habits of prematurely sacking coaches.

I mean they said many times they don't want him.

Just kidding.
I mean I don't think any team can do worse than Kenny, he's a proven coach that can get you consistent home and away wins year in year out. That's no mean feat and nothing to scoff at. Hinkley may need a change of scenery for him to do a Malcolm Blight and finally break through with a flag.

Gee, it'd be handy if half of them weren't injured though.
Yes it would, but even when they are at full strength everything seems such a massive effort and there is way too much emphasis on too few.

Who do they have that breaks lines? Who is the small forward that creates havoc in their forward line and scares the living daylights out of opposition defences? Who kicks with the sort of precision you need to open a whole game up?

The whole "contested beasts" thing is a folly if that is all you can do.

Fair points.

Perhaps the players drank their own bathwater during the offseason and jus thought it'd happen? At the very least, despite the injuries this season should hit home to many of them that things don't just 'happen' for you.

I don't think the players did drink their own bath water. I think it is deliberate. Their list has been built without these things in mind and the game plan does not consider them either. All we ever hear about is 'building a contested brand that stacks up in finals'. That is fine - but you have to be able to do more.

Richmond were contested beasts - and no one could match their speed and running power. They just overpowered everyone with run.

Hawthorn (three peat) were contested beasts (Hawks massively underrated on this because they are always seen as playing keepings off) - but they could kick the eyes out it and make sure their opposition never touched the football.

Even Geelong with their 22 premiership realised they were missing something, so they go get Stengel and go get Isaac Smith - both pretty much for nothing - and they completely transform their team creating forward pressure mayhem and breaking lines.

I just don't see any identity with Carlton past 'contested football'. You need more than that to win. Same applies to Melbourne and maybe others.

And it has been happening all year - not just now they have injuries.

Carltons top 5 players are easily the best in the league. Yet they can't move the football on offence half the time.

And it's no surprise our recent resurgence coincides with the likes of Mannagh, Humphries and Dempsey, three players who do exactly what you have described above.
