For good measure, here's another stat.

4-9 33 is comfortably the Giants lowest ever score against us.

Previous lowest was 9-8 62 back in their first season 2012.

At what point do we think GWS move on from the Bontempelli-Haynes incident?

Obviously the raking of his eyes during last year's final wasn't enough and it required at least a 2nd effort, perhaps Nick Haynes to captain the Giants every time they play the Dogs until both players retire?
Hopefully never, but it went a fair way to losing them the game tonight. Even Leon Cameron can probably appreciate that.

On the plus side, we've set a benchmark for the rest of the season in terms of physicality, cameraderie, tackling and pressure acts regardless of the opposition's niggling tactics and tagging of our best playmaker.

Keep that up all season and we'll play finals.

It backfired spectacularly and the way we responded will hopefully prove to be a watershed moment for us, cheers Leon.

Bevo finally picks a far better side, OMG

Please Bevo, last weeks team should only occur if the injury curse strikes, please never again.

Hunter, Wood, Duryea, Lipinski, West, Schache and Young all to come back in at some stage. Trengove probably has been Minsoned/Campbelled, so my hopes ain't high there...

The dickheads rolled out Haynes to take the coin toss to try and add more drama to the whole thing. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they (or the AFL) paid a PR firm for that sort of idea. They're a plastic, hollow, soulless money pit of an enterprise and are looking to manufacture a story around which the players can cling to and find a bit of heart.
So, to answer your question, they aren't letting go of it any time soon.

Their foaming at the mouth over the incident itself is laughable.

Bontempelli didn’t do anything wrong, it was unlucky for Haynes but those things happen in football.

Our plan to get the Bigfooty poster known as Leon to be a secret agent posing as Leon Cameron and destroy the giants from within worked beautifully.

Maybe they can convince him to pose as Rhyce Shaw in a few weeks and destroy norf.

If we can find a way of matching English up against plodding journeymen for the rest of time, we're set.
He showed signs tonight of what he may be.

People need to give this kid a break, he gets toweled by older, bigger, better ruckman and people lose their shit.

Give him time, good effort tonight......goal kicking excluded.

Good to see amongst the hate towards gws on this board there’s some especially reserved for Heath Shaw, I have hated him right from the get go.

Was an absolute C U Next Thursday at Collingwood and continues to be one today at the “giants”.

Amongst the pure joy that comes from seeing gws suffer, the sight of him crying tears of unfathomable sadness at the end of last year’s GF was truly magnificent.

Had a good feeling about this week. To be honest I'm not even surprised how we played Rounds 1 and 2 in such an odd time in history; despite the blowtorch being heavy on us and well justified, looking at other games of the first 2 rounds helped put perspective of the true randomness that is going to play out. And if Gold Coast's showing against the apparent top seed Eagles is anything to go by, the competition is getting hella even as it has over the last few years and there's barely an 'easy' game these days.
By all means though, Round 1 and 2 were horrendous and hard to watch as a supporter as you could just see structures and skills were just not there.
But time to post again after a good win over our modern day rivals and a few things to mention.
The inclusions were absolutely the boost that was needed but none more than Libba. As soon as he was included, just had that positive feeling we'd be there abouts to at least win it with the teams that were going in; and boy did he remind us how good he is. A true master of the contested scrap and getting a key hand in when an opponent seems like they're going to take a clean possession and get it away. I forget if I've mentioned this before, but I feel like ever since he's had his injury run of ACLs perhaps impacting his peak physical capability, he's reinvented himself as a specialist that I call: 'the Anti-tagger'. Although it was greatly displayed today, I had previously observed this from many of our previous games where the oppo has intentionally gone to tag Bont or even Dunks when he went on fire last year, and Libba breaks the tag shackles as the Anti-tagger. Fox Footy guys said he didn't even attend a center square bounce tonight but he sure did the hards to get into the contests. My other observation of him which probably would surprise many opposition fans is that now with maturity of years behind him, he doesn't do reckless things when it comes to the rough stuff; where other players go for the aggressive off the ball bumps, he just does little cheeky niggles like when he did I slight pull on Shaw's guernsey. Man he's crafty and good at it.
Don't know how many of you agree but he has also proven himself to be really good kick for goal (set shot and 50 on the run), I find it amusing that both him and Wallis inseparable footy journeys both initially brought in as inside contested animals are now the guys I'd want kicking for goal the most (Wallis incredibly proven). All in all, happy that Libba's back and although not quite the center square operator he once was, slowly finding that niche position that we will value incredibly. Also happy for Wallis too, always know he's going to bring the effort and a good kick at goal, not many touches but as hard as anyone for contest which is good in the forward half.
Gonna go a bit on the expletive here but what the fk was that move Haynes taking the captain's toss. I've got nothing against Haynes, a bloody damn good player and of all the GWS players, never complains and is far from the representation of the rest of his team. The extent that they feel so aggrieved by Bont's incidental bump the fractured his larynx is so incredibly petty if the likes of Greene thinks his Elim final actions were justified; But now whoever's idea it was to put Haynes up to this, that was some real Adelaide Crows Power Stance Sh*t right there. I'm so happy that backfired so stir on that for the year until we play each other again ya dickheads.
A bit of a slow start but I was really thrilled with Keath and Bruce's recruitments and with more games put together, I see our spine finally taking some sort of shape that it never has for most of our AFL era. Keath's first 2 games weren't even really that bad just that we were bad as a whole team and tonight, him kicking that goal was sheer pleasure and you can see he's happy to be there. Derm described Bruce's roll as the older brother for Naughton and putting a side his low possession count for the game, seeing him in the thick of the brawl flying the flag was patriotic, I'm glad he's here and I'm confident we'll see him start getting more forward opportunities soon.
Naughton similar to first 2 rounds, plenty of almost moments, flew the flag as well with Bruce, good grab from the quick Smith kick; but like some others have shared with the unpopular opinion, but I'd still like to see him in the backline (even just a few stints a game) as his goalkicking still doesn't reassure me to be a bonafide Key Forward, albeit all our goalkicking is sh*t.
English better showing tonight and was a huge presence stopping the down the line kicking. Early on he was marking a lot of it and as the game went on, didn't quite clunk them but they were at least getting to his hands. Those 2 behinds were painful to not establish the early ascendancy but I still have faith his goalkicking can become reliable with some continuity. If you guys remember the Preseason games, I think there were 2 goals from ~55m out he took it on himself to launch and they went through well; but tonight you could clearly see from those 5 behinds scored, the whole team's form at goals is currently just shocking and it showed in his run up. Oh well, I've seen good enough signs.
The dumb moments tonight just really hurt, and all posters have got it right with Suckling and Dale. For Suck in hindsight of that stupid cute kick, pleaded that he should have just gone for distance considering his leg. He's gonna want to find his targets soon if he's not already going to be dropped this week. Dale's an interesting one, one of the best medium forwards of the last half of 2019. It's been no secret ever since his debut against Freo, he has an absolute rocket of a kick when its on, but I guess the weirdness of the season has really effected him; and as bad of a game as he was already having, he somehow made it even worse in that last quarter with that mung of a kick straight to Haynes, followed by the left foot goalsquare howler. I still highly rate him because he's one of the few in our forward line that can kick for distance and accurately when in form, but right now he's far from that form so has to start showing up soon.
Thoroughly enjoyed GWS's tall forwards Cameron/Himmel/Finlayson barely getting a look at it tonight, although some quality mids missing, they were essentially unsighted.
Big shoutout to Jong. Has plenty of critics on here and fair enough; his best and worst has been quite polarizing. But his barely had a bad touch these last 2 games and is not looking out of place out there.
I shall end with 2 things right here:
1. Bailey Smith, there's barely a sole more deserving to wear the number 6 after Johnno and Dahl. This guy is a freak, he's not just got extreme level appetite for the contest but he has seriously high IQ using the ball as well and cleary, runs, all, day. We all probably share this because of Bias but all those discussions of the best draftees from his class, seeing him ranked 8th-10th is just absolute discredit. Nothing against the Rozee's, Walsh's and King Brothers of the world but Smith just continues to be underrated of that class; but whatever, we get to see how good he is. And I'll say it again, his technique of possession around the contest is arguably competition best. The way he ride's tackles/contact is in a way that either results in ballups or gives him every change to break free and get a disposal off, RARELY gets done holding the ball; and only his second year and 19 years old... He is seriously, that, good. And talks very well for interview.
2. If Naughton gets done for Whitfield's concussion, someone's gotta burn down MRP Office and the questions will be further raised of what has happened to our game.
Thanks for reading my usual long posts, been a while since that winning feeling on a footy weekend.

Positives: The Pressure was back! Bailey Smith, Bailey Williams, Libba oh sweet Libba, Bruce flying the flag, McLean, Jong, Caleb’s kicking, Richards running.

Negatives: Naughton wearing 40, Suckling, Bailey Dale, English’s goal kicking, team goal kicking.

I get that there has been unusual circumstances and there was a stretch where teams could not practice together. So the general play being a bit sloppy is not a surprise. However, it seems to me that one thing you can work on when training alone or in pairs is SET SHOTS and goal kicking in general. The Dogs have been dreadful, but the whole league seems to be struggling more than they should be. It just has me baffled.

Minsoned/Campbelled - sounds like if a ruck is out of favour we chop them and then puree them....😋

Two of our best shots are Dickson and Schache and neither are playing, while Dale and Lloyd seem to be way out of form. Bruce is a worry but we kind of knew that.

Am I the only one worried about what happens if Baz ever cuts a single lock of that magnificent mange?

To my mind there are only two circumstances it should be permitted - in 2025 after he wins his 4th Dogs premiership or if he requests a trade (in which case we wax him)

Can we make this a contract term and throw him all the money he likes provided he abides?

Mange? Surely not 😲

Remember when Dahlhaus cut off his dreads? Terrible time.

How great was Coniglio's effort in the opening minutes when he dragged Bont down behind play for a 50m penalty and opening goal to Dunkley.

Great leadership from the captain against his counterpart after he forgot to attend the coin toss.
To be fair, Haynes didn’t look too thrilled about it either

I'd like to see Lloyd get the flick for Weightman personally.
