"North haven't done a very good job"......yeah no s**t captains obvious.

It's probably why we've spent 4 years on the bottom and have now asked to access a legitimate mechanism to give us a little chop out...
For all the bleating from other clubs, I would have no issue with those teams getting similar assistance if they were as crap as we have been in the last 4 years.

This is it.

We didn’t come to this point so we could ask.

We asked because we’ve ended up here.

If you go back a year I’m doubtful there would be any North person inside or outside the club that wanted only 3 wins.

It’s been a wasted year. In large part not our doing.

We have been

Absolutely pathetic in some games on top of the misery of 2020 and 2021
Yes we have but when it suits all these pricks . In one breath they’re saying we are the worst then the when it suits them no no no they’re not that bad they played in preliminary finals blah blah .the media CGAGF .

Not entirely wasted to have got a year‘s development and some good games into players like Sheezel, Wardlaw, Ford, Curtis, Scott, Phillips and Comben (even if some of their seasons were interrupted) and Larkey and LDU to have grown as they have in confidence and presence.

Reminds me of that 1989-1992 era, in terms of blooding (def not W/L)

Poor-ish wording on my part.

I had expected 6 wins this year. My expectations are now the same for next year because of this year.

So yeah there were individual things but I was hoping the improvement would be a little more clear than going from 10 goal losses to 3-4 goal losses.

Next year I want 6+ wins and the best % of the bottom 6 sides.

so yeah not entirely wasted but not as much progress as we could of had.

Damo - North haven't developed the high end talent they've had access to.

Harry Sheezel just won the Rising Star *******
Spinning tops don't do context.

R1 picks since 2017

17 - LDU is a star, injury problems have hampered him, but is an out and out gun.
18 - Thomas has had his off field and personal issues, but is a gun and has shown it.
19 - NONE. Our first pick was Charlie Mr. Chalk Comben at 31.
20 - Phillips has had glandular fever destroy a full year, Powell has been impacted by injuries. COVID kids too, so theres that.
21 - JHF bailed
22 - Sheez and Wardlaw, both big ticks.

Damo and his AFL media ilk aren't journalists, just talking heads. Leave em off and get on with our lives.

Go back further and you have a 2xB&F club captain, and a guy who's leaving and other clubs lost their minds trying to get.

Would we see this much dummy spitting if the #3 Ben McKay " priority compensation pick " wasn't there ?

I’m looking forward to the next flood of tears when the AFL announce band 1 compensation for buckets.

Barrett is an absolute piece of s***.

I didn't watch the whole show. I mean, it's Footy Classified...why would I? But he's sitting right next to someone who's on the board of an AFL Club. Instead of having a hissy fit over how angry the other clubs are, why not ask Bartel and let him do the talking? Bartel didn't appear angry at all.

Haven't read a single reasoned post from an oppo supporter.

Just have to look at the main board and see the market the media are catering for, no point getting angry about engineered clickbait. It's just a vicious cycle.

Absolutely. It is likely that West Coast are going to be in trouble at least next year and much and all as I dislike that club, they will deserve that support.

The reason that the AFL Commission was established in the first place was to take away the parochialism that afflicted the clubs since the game commenced. Imagine if the the other Clubs had a vote on this assistance. It would be 17 against and us alone for it.

Much and all as this is a sore point for some here, this is just as it was in 1996 when the other Clubs voted on the North Fitzroy Merger. All of them opposed it, because why? Each of their clubs might have just been a touch worse off. Poor darlings.

I assumed 6 wins this season also, and after winning the first 2 thought I better re-evaluate higher.

Felt like we deserved the win against the Swans (talk about finding every possible way to lose a game) and the 2nd Saints game (that call against LDU killed our momentum). Both Bombers games could have gone either way.

Haven't thought about next year yet, will see how the trade, drafting, and pre-season games play out first.

To hear these "intellectual giants" talk, you would think that we are the only club that gets Round 1 Picks. Their collective IQ's would not add up to the same level as a squashed snail crossing a road. In part of course due to the fact that Barrett is in negative territory IQ wise.

The merger with Fitzroy is one that always grinds on me. The causality was always going to be Melbourne based supporters who had their local team ripped from them.

I have quite a few friends who stayed the course and become Brisbane supporters, good luck to them for this Sat. Others moved to other Melbourne based teams, primarily the Tigers, so I guess they found a way.

Yeah. I don't get the point that the other clubs are angry they didn't have a say in it. I mean, why would they have a say in it? And even if they did, of course they'd vote for they're own self interest. I suspect that instead of the white-hot-rage that Barrett and Wilson are reporting, there's more likely to be a some bemusement at most. Aside from serial whinger Chris Scott, who else has really come off the long run?

Self interest dictates that no one will because the day may come when they will be putting their hand out. I mean, I can't believe that West Coast would be too outraged given they're probably next in line for a hand out. And I guess when Geelong get themselves into trouble - maybe many years away - bit they will be one day, they'll politely decline their hand outs? Yeah, right.

Ah but now apparently because Grundy is moving to Sydney COLLINGWOOD is going to potentially ask for his salary to be removed from their Cap.

Oh but we never as for assistance COLLINGWOOD is now going to ask for assistance to clear cap space of a player they signed on to a mega deal then traded them out…!

Though it is a long time ago now, I still vividly remember the absolute feeling of loss and desolation from those horrible times. I resolved then though that I would not follow Brisbane, but at the same time I had no idea how I would cope with football from 1997 on.

Anyway, that's history but it should be a lesson to all those now from their superior positions on field, that they should be prepared to assist struggling clubs, any club that is in dire straits on field, because who knows when it might be their turn next to need assistance.

No-one knows "for whom the bell tolls next".

The thing is, if you ever had the opportunity to debate this issue with one of these peanuts and using these valid points, they would simply leap to the alternate argument that with so many quality young players developing so well, North doesn't need or deserve any more high draft picks. Let's not forget that immediately after our loss to West Coast and prior to us beating Gold Coast, when we had our hands on #1 pick and most likely Harley Reid, there were people in the media arguing that as we were so bad at developing young players and we already had so many of them, we should not get the #1 pick this year despite coming last. These people will contort themselves to reach the same conclusion that North Melbourne should not get any top draft picks because reasons.

For several years, there was a strong sentiment in the football community that we should never allow what happened to Fitzroy supporters ever happen again. Now we have what appears to be thousands of football supporters suggesting that North should be relegated to the VFL or merged with Tasmania. Essentially the exact same thing as happened to Fitzroy. What annoys me is that all of these heroes who make their flippant social media posts about the death of a football club and how it's in the best interests of everyone would then deny ever having contributed to the death of a football club and they would blame the evil AFL. I suggest that Ross Oakley and the AFL felt they had broad support to kill Fitzroy in 1996. They didn't anticipate that all of the arseholes calling for the death of Fitzroy would disappear back under their rocks and leave the AFL commissioners and executive as the bad guys.

None of the legit people in the football community are posting regularly on the BigFooty main board though. Or Facebook. Or X.
