If they are counting JHF as two picks, then same goes when we compress them trading up....

12 x 1st rounders in 10 years.
everyone always so focused on who was recruited and if they failed or succeeded... but makes you wonder if the real culprit and driver is the development team.

Khan was also a priority pick iirc
Look haven’t watched the Chris Scott interview but my mate read it to me . He does make some valid points , he is also out for himself. However, every other club in the same position has been compensated, regardless of what he thinks. So if Geelong ever get into this position according to Chris they won’t ask for any assistance, good to know . We don’t want to be where we are but if there is help available you take it. The game is compromised in many ways this draft assistance is just one of them.
Let’s looks at context. Under old father son rules Geelong paid pick 40 for Ablett. Then recieved 2 first round selections as comp when he left under free agency to join the suns. They’ve done more than alright out of Hawkins as father son. Yet where the afl has drawn the line in games played for club means we’ve missed out on Josh Kelly, The bray Shaw’s etc. how about injuries etc and how they impact games played. For argument sake a guy like Narni from memory fell just short of playing 100 in an injury plagued career. Great servant of the club almost part of Arden st folklore yet his son (if he has one) ineligible to join north. Chris Scott has his head conveniently up his ass

In Geelong's case, being able to pay so little in draft terms for the first round quality father/sons available to them, it effectively gave them another first rounder. Not only did they get Ablett at 40, it meant that they could use their first round pick on... Jimmy Bartel. Hawkins went at 41 allowing them to draft Joel Sellwood at 7. A pretty good hand.

Yup they’ve had the best of draft assistance. Father son, PPS calls it what you will. Chris Scott was and always will be little more than a grubby school yard bully.

Priority picks have pretty much always been around and will be too for circumstances like ours , regardless of what certain people say . If the Cats were in same the position and there was assistance available does Chris think they wouldn’t apply lol. Wonder if he would be this dramatic if his brother was still at our club. Vic clubs always go harder on opposition when it’s another Vic club as they are competing in the same region too, plus it’s us as well. The little team that used to embarrass everyone, they don’t want us doing that again.

Question for those in the know. What would a realistic explanation be if we packaged up the 3 selections we got yesterday & used them for a pick this year?

Would love to package up 2, F19 and F20 to get Harley.

Not only for his incredible footy ability but more so for when he wins the RS, Chas and Norm Smith that we can ring in to Corne Francis and the Haggis woman from Talking Dribble and tell them we got Harley through AFL assistance :)

Yep understand that but l was working off an original posters list that started in 1997...l find that early to mid 90's draft wasn't taken as serious as it would become by the end of the century when salary cap rule got tighter and tighter.

Needs to be #14 Sherm, so that JHF’s departure netted us Wardlaw and Reid.

The Wikipedia list that everyone uses starts in 1997, and only includes first-rounders, I think. No idea why, perhaps it's in need of an update.

Maybe 2 + 2 = 5, but it looks like the AFL introduced PPs to try to get Sydney and Brisbane off the bottom when they were both terrible in the early 90s.

Nah, wardlaw wins it next year. Sheezel said so and everything that boy says and does makes sense. Agree we should be trading them out this year. The “subject to review” sounds like the afl is encouraging us to do so.

Absolutely. We really should have foreseen that a mysterious virus out of China would lead to a worldwide pandemic, impacting the Under 18 talent leagues and the ability of recruiters to track the development of players when we traded out of the 2019 draft.
Just look at the 2019 draft crop, some of those players would be seriously handy to have. It was simply an unneccesary risk that blew up in our faces.

Probably right!!1 I mean Port were still allowed a zone pre 1997 which nabbed Peter Burgoyne, Stuart Dew, Warren Tredrea, Brendon Lade and Josh Francou, possibly others....might update Wikipedia;)

Oh please please please do…and then post link here…that list is absolutely glorious 👏👏👏

Come Saturday night BF must surely go into meltdown after the newly crowed premiers walk away with….. a first round draft pick. The outrage!

Hmm - maybe that won’t actually happen as it's an inconvenient truth that every team gets a first round draft pick every year. So yeah, screw North and their outrageous (possible) 12 R1 picks in 10 years…

Slobbo was absolutely filthy that Geraldo snuck off with Gill and the cool kids to party on after the Chas last night (probably in the Crown Penthouse) and left him on the Craps table with the battlers..

Geraldo is like a fanboi when Gill is in the house, just mesmerised with his every word… *en nerd turd..
Sounded like Gerard was just there to keep an eye on his wife and Gil 😉
