The Gold Coast situation is different and was a last gasp ditch to save the club. I think they can see the picks of the past (over a decade ago) were an over correction.

The precedent is now set
I don’t see any difference we need help so give it to us. Instead rules attached and as I mentioned every other club including GC got them

there is a long game it’s called diplomacy.
Everyone know this is a relative s**t hand but they are hostile enough without being publicly lashed.

Having said that it would be very satisfying.

I know and I'd ordinarily practice the diplomatic angle.

But this particular scenario feels like a pushback might be of more value than mere acceptance.

We took the hand dealt out and this is where we landed. Maybe spinning the wheel and trying something different now is warranted. Dunno.

We know where we stand with the AFL and I thought for a second they had lightened their feelings towards us . This shows it has not . This is about what is fair , every other club has been helped except us. If people can’t see this well no use talking about it.

I read this as they both need to be traded for a player and or players, not picks. So could trade both picks for 1 player or multiple players. There will probably be more clarity around it in coming days.

Could they be used in a salary dump though. Hill and 27 for future 3 assistance pick?
Saints fans reckon they dont need to dump salary......Hill not worth 900k.....I'd pay him 2.5m over 4 years if Saints pay 250 a year for the next 2!....He gets some longevity and see what he can bring a team on the rise with Clarko in charge, and an extra 700k on his current contract, certainly an upgrade on Polecs output who rolls out of contract next season. Reckon that's a win for both clubs and player,,,although saints fans reckon they don't need to dump salary. either way, he's not value at 900k!

North Melbourne CEO Ben Amarfio said the club now has some clarity as it heads towards this year’s trade period.

“We thank the AFL for considering our submission,” Amarfio said. “We feel like we had a strong case for some on-field assistance based on our recent performances.

“We’re one of very few clubs to have never received priority selections previously. This will now give us some real flexibility as we look to add some experience to our young and talented list.

“James Gallagher and our list team have worked hard to get this package across the line and we now look ahead to the upcoming trade period.”

Whats the point? Seriously.

I think the devil will be in the detail, given we have to trade the 2 future picks for a player you would hope that picks can can also be included in that trade i.e. our future 2nd for say a player X and their future 3rd / 4th

You'd have to think that's allowed otherwise it really restricts who we can trade for and who we can trade with.

I see what Ben was saying under his breath.

We've always had enemies historically but giving them the finger with the attempted GC relocation (and then erasing the debt) was probably what really left them seething. We were never and will never be a golden child like Sydney is.

Take comfort that they will ALL go to their graves in the knowledge their efforts to destroy and undermine us FAILED and we will always be here.

Future Second and Third we HAVE to trade isn't going to make any meaningful difference in how competitive we are in the short term. Integrity of the draft is already obliterated by f/s and academy picks. Our package is incomparable to the GC one just a couple of years ago. The logic used in their press release simply doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

Still, I am glad about the 2 rookie spots I guess. The rest is pretty shithouse and most galling of all the club have to grin and thank them as we eat the shit sandwich. Which we will.

Pretty funny at the end of the day, but in an absurdist kind of way.

I'm actually Glad Cripps won the brownlow and left Gill looking pathetic.
Would have been even better if Petracca won and told him to pronouce his name properly.
Imagine that AFL CEO can't pronounce the name of one of the premier players.

Anyway it is what it is now, we trade away and see what we get.
The name "Joel Selwood" slipped off the lickspittle tongue of the AFL CEO with slimy ease though.

You could be right. I doubt they would say no picks can be used at all, that would be too restrictive but it may be that each pick must involve a player - ie can't take a salary dump with 3rd round and just picks with the second round

Nah, one more year. Wouldn’t trade him now, be lucky to be offered a second rounder.
Possibly, however if as suggested Gold Coast are into him , 2 years on contract etc . I just feel we need to be creative to improve our draft hand , thanks in part to the ccj trade we are too short this year imo

I heard something in the background re Selwood sounded like that Brett Kirk intro and started dry reaching
