To me it seems as though we will receive multiple draft picks but with the condition they will have to be traded out for established players.

The problem with that is if good experienced players move they’re generally chasing a flag, so I think it’ll be hard to get decent players to join a wooden spoon team just because their clubs might want a higher draft pick.

Yeah I agree, the incentives will have to be $$$, potential coaching roles post football and the hope that we rebound up the ladder quicker than most would expect.

Anyone decent in the 25-28 bracket is going to have the opportunity to go to a club in contention.

Anyone above that age shouldn’t cost much trade wise, see the players that Clarko let go. Iirc the clubs they went to gave up bugger all picks wise to get them.

And we’ve offered big money whilst in a better position with no luck. Don’t want to be like StKilda, or even North under Scott and just top up. We need to go to the draft and aim for sustained success.

Yep, they should just give us pick 11 and 19 now and then everyone can be happy/unhappy with how we go for the rest of the year.

No one wants other clubs getting priority picks. I know I didn’t like it when North got shuffled back in the draft order because of it, but what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

And this way teams that miss out on the finals aren't disadvantaged, and the finalists only shuffle back one.

I think there might be a few interested in us if we sign a certain coach who has been telling out of contract players to hold off resigning...

Tom Rockcliff went on radio with it in Feb and it’s been mentioned a few times since.

"What the club needs is mature bodies to help set standards and carry the club forward."

The Blues will be able to pre-list two players who have previously been eligible for the draft or previously played with an AFL club, while the Suns will have access to three players.

The AFL have eliminated the value of pre-listing mature players with the introduction of the MSD.

We had the opportunity to essentially pre-list a player in June and passed.

I also doubt the AFL gives us a draft pick that adds to our pile of young talent and does nothing to help us in the short term.

Any assistance given will likely be in the form of some kind of asset that we are forced to trade. If the club goes down this path, it’s likely they have already agreed to terms with a player who could be traded for pick 11 or whatever asset that we end up getting.

Carlton basically traded their pre-listed mature picks for draft picks. Hopefully if we get picks (let's say mid first, end of first), we can work something into getting more picks and players.

Trade 1: Carlton received pick No.43 from Geelong in exchange for its access to SANFL forward Nathan Kreuger (pre-listed state-league player).

Trade 2: The Blues acquired Mitch Govern and a future third-round pick from the Crows. Carlton sent its future fifth-round pick and its access to pre-listed state-league player Shane McAdam to Adelaide, while sending pick Nos.24 and 26 to Sydney. Adelaide secured Sydney’s first-round pick (No.13) and sent pick No.40 to the Swans.

Trade wrap: Blues sign four

In:

Mitch McGovern (Adelaide)
Alex Fasolo (Collingwood)
Will Setterfield (GWS)
Nic Newman (Sydney)
Pick No.71 (GWS)
Future third-round pick (Adelaide)

Out:

Access to state-league recruit Nathan Kreuger (Geelong)
Access to state-league recruit Shane McAdam (Adelaide)

Pick Nos.26 and 28 (Sydney)
Future fifth-round pick (Adelaide)
Future fourth-round pick

As for Gold Coast, they signed Corbett and Burgess.

GOLD Coast has signed two state league players as part of the special assistance handed to it by the AFL.

Werribee VFL player Josh Corbett and West Adelaide SANFL player Chris Burgess have joined the Suns as special pre-listed assistance selections. Gold Coast is permitted to pick three players from the state leagues.

They gave Carlton priority picks without giving them priority picks. Those AFL bigwigs get a lot of shit at times, but boy can they manufacture an outcome...

It was for one bad year as well. In 2018, they won two games.

We've had three years of it.

How about the snipe from the 3AW reporter dring the press conference today.

"On one hand the top brass is saying the list is good but then you're also asking for a PP, don't you think that's a bit contradictory?"

Good to see them use a different reason as to why we don't deserve something

So here is our list breakdown sorted by age. A big gap in the 24-28 year old group.
