Draft Predictions

Wouldn't surprise me to see the Dees take Rich. Surer bet, and then take some KPP's in the teens.

Last thing you want to do before the lockout is stuff the number 1. Rich might be seen as a safer bet.

Will be interesting to watch.

That's my feeling right now. :thumbsu:

I agree its a grey area, but you have to look at what the teams need. Melbourne need forwards, and they need a marquee player. A #1 pick is going to attract attention regardless of their playing style/attributres. No matter who they draft they will get extra members just from having that player on their list. Why not kill two birds with one stone and draft a forward?

WCE, if they lose Kerr, will have a very, very shit midfield. Rich is an amazing midfielder - problem solved.

Melbourne need everything mate, they need midfielders and a ruckman just as much as a KF. Just a BB said, Rich is probably the safest pick and in the Dees situaton i don't think there in any situation to take any risks. Even though i believe Watts has the potential to be the best player in the draft, questions marks are starting to pop up about him and whether he can reach that level.

As for WCE, they will pick best available and from what i've been reading from a fair few quality WA posters, Naitanui is number 1 on the Eagles list. It's said all the time, you go best available with a first round pick, whether they might need a midfielder or not, if they believe Natanui is best available they will take him. Anyway, right now, for me, the Dees will take Rich so the Eagles wouldn't have that option.

I'd agree, I can't see Watts going number one. My tip is Melbourne will get Natanui with pick 1. On pure raw talent alone he offers alot more.
I don't think they will take him. Too big a risk IMO.

What if he doesn't get better at reading the game, or his kicking doesn't improve?

Just for fun because I'm flying blind...

Not sure we'll take Hill at 6, but a pretty good effort TG and most of the picks are hard to argue against.

I personally wouldn't have Suban that high, but I could see him going that high.

melbourne- watts
west coast- rich
fremantle- naitanui
port adeliade- hartlett/vickery
essendon- hurley
carlton- ziebell.

ziebell or hurley pleeease.
we will be able to get another high quality player with pick. 24, after our first rounder (who ever it may be will solve one need) we will look out for players that play as a-
tall forward
small forward
tall backmen
half back flanker

I really want us to get Lewis Johnston with pick 24 if hes avaliable looks very good has strong hands is quick and just looks a player

I think Melbourne desperately needs a "Marketing" player and that will be Nicholas Naitanui.
On the basis that Jack Watts doesn't nominate the following are my thoughts on the draft. Now don't jump all over me because "Hurley" is down the list. I think he's potentially a good player but the fact is his kicking has no depth and he's a liiile slow goes against him in my book. What I have done is look at the requirements of most clubs together with the state a player comes from. I think there is a real concern by some of the Interstate Clubs that players often want to go back home especially to Victoria, therefore they may opt for a preference of a player from their State.
What is missing from the potential draftees list is a number of quick indeginous players like the Clarks & Lovetts. They will be chosen from somewhere but I can't find them anywhere on the recommended draftee lists compiled by Sheahan and the NAB Draft committee.
#1 Melbourne – Nicholas Natanui

#2 West Coast – Tom Swift

#3 Fremantle - Daniel Rich

#4 Port Adelaide – Hamish Hartlett

#5 Essendon - Jack Ziebell

#6 Carlton - Tom Hill

#7 Brisbane – Tom Lynch

#8 Richmond – Lewis Johnstone

#9 Collingwood - Michael Hurley

#10 North Melbourne – Shaun McKernan

#11 Sydney – Tyrone Vickery

#12 Adelaide – Mathew Broadbent

#13 St. Kilda – Jackson Trengrove

#14 Western Bulldogs – Michael Walters

#15 Hawthorn – Aaron Cornilius

#16 Geelong – Sam Blease

Can we at least all agree that whoever we pick will be a soft, talentless squib who can't kick or mark, a disgrace to the jumper, and who should be traded for someone else's star player or 3 first round picks as soon as possible?

I mean, let's remove all the suspense and boil it down to the kid's name.

Meh ... I can't believe we will pick up that dud ..while all those other future champions were still available .:thumbsdown:

Couldn't agree more. Hughes has to go and as far as I'm concerned Ratts can pack up and go with him. Ridiculous selection.:thumbsdown:

l would suggest based on Carlton's history of recruitment it is highly unlikely that they would select Yarran ahead of Hartlett and Ziebell, besides both of these players look likely to become quality players, Yarran is likely to go somewhere between 8-14 as sure he has some x factor but l would strongly suggest the other two will become better players at the elite level.

Well, we made a wise decision to pick Russell and Sporn ahead of Monfries and Burgoyne to go for the safer options with less ability to win a match off their boots.

Which is really the type of player we need when he have a one paced midfield and Betts is our only small forward with pace.

Would rather we reach for a small marking forward/mid with pace and X factor than a bottom age age tall forward.

Not many predicted Thomas for pick two in 2005.

If Hartlett tests well for pace at draft camp and we get the chance to draft him, I'll gladly eat my words. ;) :)

l presume when you are refering to Carlton's one paced midfield e.g Judd, Stevens,Murphy, Gibbs, the reason they may have looked average in some of the latter games is the opposition have actually won the hard ball at the centre clearances, which in today's style of footy is critical and a player like Ziebell probably would assist in this area, Carlton with their pick 1 need to pick whom they identify has the most talent not a specific position, that should be addressed in later picks, or the trade period.

Most people of BF are not experts on these kids but certainly based on Under 18 champs and late season form, l do not expect we can go wrong with Hartlett or Ziebell, you obviously disagree.

I don't think I ever said we could go wrong with Ziebell and Hartlett.

I'm just trying to put out different predictions because everyone has the same players in a different order for the first six picks. People are already posting We have to pick player A ahead of player B or I'll be annoyed if we dont' pick player C. They're bound to be disappointed if they think the opinion of Carlton matches the order of phantom drafts and profiles posted on BigFooty by draft watchers. Most Blues fans reacted with Shaun who? when we picked Grigg and Hampson in 2006 ahead of Jetta and Proud.

The game suits a faster player as much as it does Ziebell, if not more with the pace it's played at today.

I admire the way Hawthorn and Geelong move quickly with deadly skill against faster sides, but you'd take an Ablett and Judd for example over a Bartel and Murphy because they have legspeed and skill.

I never said Judd, Murphy and Gibbs were average in the last month.

I think position also played a part in selecting Kreuzer and Kennedy.

#6 - Stephen Hill
#24 - Tom Hill
#40 - Paul Cahill
#56 - Michael Still

That was dedicated to Thy :p

We are lucky to have pick #6 in this draft. After that the quality drops off a bit more. Any one of Hurley/Ziebell/Hartlett i will be happy, but if i had to put money on it id say we'd end up with Ziebell.

whats wrong with steele sidebottom?
i wouldnt mind him?

also have you got any information on Tom Swift?
herd that he was better than Rich in the under 16's!!!!
