What I found interesting in the phantom draft was that Cal has Tauru going at the Saints’ second pick (10, not 8). Maybe has inside word that, although still a bolter, Tauru won’t be taken quite as high as we’ve been led to believe (e.g. North’s pick 2, Dees’ pick 5).

Sort of expected as no other side needs a defender earlier yeah I know everyone is saying Melbourne but they don’t

Would the Saints accept North's F1 for 7 or 8, presuming if Tauru slides?
Sometimes I think whilst 1st year players don't help alot on field in year 1, they provide pressure on existing players as well as a increase in spirit that help the team.
I would be concerned that north with 2,8 this year will help lift a team with lots of young talent, and Darling, Daniels, Parker. I doubt all 3 of those flop, so I think If i was st kilda better to take pick 8. Or try to trade 8 F2 for 18,F1 with Richmond, or 15 F1 with GWS.

As a Tigers supporter I would be stocked with the first 4 in Cals phantom draft. Apart from Lalor & Smillie I really like Lindsay and Shanahan both are very classy. Bring on Wednesday 7pm
It makes me feel sick that you might actually nail your draft haul. You’ve pretty much picked most of my favourite players from this draft with your picks. Only positive is Kako gets bided on at 13.

Positive when you traded away 9? You’d be hoping he’s budded on before

If by 'maybe' you mean 'not a ****ing chance'.
Nope. It’s a solid maybe.
Tauru became a top 10 lock about 5 weeks after playing his last game. Got better the less he played.
We are keen on him, I have no doubt, but I also hope we aren’t stupid.
Theories are exactly that, theories.
I don’t know what we are doing, but I’m pretty confident you don't know either. It’s great.
Melbourne might take Tauru at 5, but I reckon if Langford is there they take Langford.
You’ve got a hard on for Smillie at 6. (👽)
Saints need mids, so Reid and/or Lindsay could appeal……Lindsay in particular. I also like Hannaford here for Saints, but maybe too early. Kid can play though
Dees are obsessed with Allan, apparently.

What number we up to? He’s gotta be a “chance” to get there, surely.

Maybe he goes 2. But I hope not. Think that’s a massive reach, but will of course accept it if we do, I’ll be “ALL IN” in fact.

Or did you mean “maybe” you wouldn’t trade for our F1 at all…..then I definitely don’t believe it. Who knows though

We got overs for that pick, so I’d prefer we pay less points so that we get a better pick from the AFL. It means we can trade out picks 28 and 31 for a future pick, I think we get a pick back in the late 40’s. So we can use 40, 46, 53 and 54, to match Kako. Then trade back in with the future picks we get for 28 and 31, then take Kako, a pick in the 20’s, 40 something and then take Jayden Nyguen with the last pick, 4 players is the max we’re taking in this draft.

Then next year we will have a strong draft hand, which we will be quite valuable considering picks in the third round are useless from next year onwards and a strong market for trading. The later Kako gets bid on the better for us.

Picks in the third round will become less valuable to trade as matching points but will become more valuable in the draft as a lot of second round picks will be used for matching, so third rounders will move forward to become more useful for drafting

Ones in the 4th and 3rd this year are ultra valuable as they can be flipped for seconds and thirds next year

IThat'll be interesting - 4th is a stretch though. And I'm not sure if that'll be the case as I think 2nds will be turned into firsts quite easily next year due ot the new DVI. And I also don't think that many clubs will be able to do it by the time it gets to the third round. Many clubs won't have firsts or will want to keep their seconds for highly rated acadmey kids.

Who knows teams have 2 years of drafts to trade too

This year they don't though, I'm expecting a fair bit of trading and by the time it gets to the 3rd round, I think there will be a fair few teams who can't trade out their second because they've already gotten rid of their first or second and then the academy teams will want to hold their seconds and so might another team or two who want to hold them to trade up next year. It'll be interesting.

Saints would be mad to take tauru given their needs. They would trade the pick to whoever will (same as Curtin in his year).

The AFL is an old boy protection racket. They just move the duds around: Misson, Dan Richardson, Lethlean, B.Scott, S.Hocking, Craig Cameron, SOS, Gieschen, Rory Atkins, Sam Lane, etc.

Oh, man. What a dud.
You don't say.

He nearly ended the careers of half our list when he was our fitness boss. Now he's an executive GM.
