How nervous are the parents of youngsters in the national draft that their son may be picked up by the Eagles. No up and coming player should be exposed to whats gone on and is still going on at West Coast. It is going to be a hard cell to get players to go to the club.(that is if they still have draft picks)

Listening to talk back radio I am amazed how many people are saying there is no way they would let their kids go to "that club"

Sponsors must be tickled pink by their investment.

Ha ha, well done :thumbsu: - Am I the only one to pick up on that

who gives a shit? Draftees aren't allowed to say no to where they go. They should be thrilled to have the opportunity to play for whomever picks them up.

Let's not kid ourselves, the Eagles aren't that much worse than anyone else when it comes to drugs, it's just they cop the bulk of the media attention thanks to numbnuts like Cuzz and Kerr.

But they are a professional organisation, and for draftees or their families to say they don't want to go there is nothing short of a disgrace

If my son was in the draft I'd be worried about him at any club! Drugs are not only at West Coast, they're at other clubs, uni, night clubs, anywhere!

Exactly drugs are more prevalent in the rest of the community then they are at a football club. It’s a community wide issue.

I'm sure the draftees could care less what their parents think.
Funny you mention this, when the National Draft has been telecast on television in the past and the top draft picks have been interviewed or shown on camera - who is usually right next to them?

That's right... their PARENTS.

Spot. On.

Where are the problems with West Coast's young interstate recruits?

The effort put in by the club and experienced players who were drafted from outside WA to aid young interstate recruits in getting settled into the club and the state is outstanding.

The notion that the West Coast Eagles Football Club is a haven for drugs and criminal activity and draftees are thrown into the deep end and have to fend for themselves in terms of how they live and the decisions they make is utter crap.

Thank you, some common sense!

I've heard so much crap from other supporters that implied that the drug problem is only at the WCE, so far the 2 main reasons have/will be delisted, while the third has done nothing wrong for nearly over a year (apart from the aerial attack, but come on his misses was just rushed to the emergency department!)

That and the fact that Cousins is innocent until proven guilty no matter what his prior convictions were .. funny thing is, he hasn't been convicted yet.

Given that West Coast has been harboring this drug problem for at least the last two years if not longer, the club is tainted by the fall-out from this and previous incidents involving Cousins and other West Coast players.

IMO the AFL has to act in a manner that makes it clear to west Coast that its previous attitudes to these problems has been inappropriate and not acceptable, while ensuring that West Coast cleans up its act for the future. At the same time it has to make sure that any draftees to West Coast are going into a safe environment.

To give comfort to parents of potential draftees from outside Western Australia, I believe that West Coast should be limited by the AFL for the next two years in its draft selections to purely home-grown product - lads that would not have to move away from within reach of their families.

Yes, West Coast would be penalized by such restrictions, but they would be ones that they have brought upon themselves by failing to act responsibly before this drug and behavioural problem got out of hand.

Since when can players that get picked up in the draft refuse to go to the club that has drafted them? They forgoe that right when they nominate for the draft.

Anyway, A Current Affair had a 'special' on last night where young Melb kids hopeful of playing AFL were asked whether or not they would go to West Coast and they all said yes. When asked had they heard about the drug thing, at least one replied 'Yeah we know, and its not just at West Coast its everywhere, its just you don't hear about it.'

Fancy that, a bunch of 17 year old kids being smarter than your average person on BF. At least they have some perspective.

I'm sure if the truth came out about a lot of clubs parents would be scared of having their kids play for them too- Australia wide.
We judge WC simply because their dirty laundry has been aired for us all to see; we don't know the dirt on the other clubs but to assume that there is none is a massive- and dangerous mistake.
It's only a matter of time before some big spring cleaning is done throughout the entire AFL and we see that this problem is bigger than just 1 club.
People have got to snap out of this finger pointing at Perth and start thinking about their own back yards before the problem gets even bigger....
