Jeez the smells of absolute horsesh!t to me. Rachele himself came out and confirmed he was dropped not because of that one incident, but for several. The general consensus was that the ‘No teeth’ comment was fine before the match, a bit of rivalry, but the leadership group asked him not to do anything during the game so as to not bring the crowd into it. The minute that happened Port turned the tide in the game and the momentum shifted, not to mention Rankine was floored.

By "the minute that happened... the momentum shifted" I assume what you mean is that it was immediately followed by a Fogarty goal, then a Thilthorpe goal, while we kept Port goalless for the rest of the quarter into halftime, and then also kept them goalless until halfway through the third quarter when they knocked Rankine out and took control?

In fact, before Rachele kicked that goal, Port had what was at that time their biggest lead in the match. If anything, Rachele's goal and celebration kicked off the only period in the match where we played consistently well.

I think they were clear to point out they want Rachele to have a personality, and play to the Crowd, but if the leadership team are asking you not specifically to do something, and you keep going against them, you’ll be punished

Sounds like a pathetic leadership group to me.

Very long bow. Do you really think the Port players went 'did you see Rachele point as his teeth? That's it! I'm angry. Now I'm going play better!'?
Of course not.

Port got on top AFTER the hit on Rankine. It's the point at which we lost our composure.

I'm pretty certain the report is rubbish. The fact that it comes from a Port flog and that all the other media run with it is just an embarrassment for so called footy 'journalists'.

The sad reality though is that we brought this on ourselves. Again. Is there a year that goes past where we aren't a joke?

There was no reason for us to cause this issue with Josh to blow up like we did. It was completely avoidable. Even if we did think it was the wrong thing to do, we could have kept it in house. It's pure incompetence on our behalf.

Listening to Mitchell at Hawthorn and Fagan at Brisbane and you can hear them talk about their young guys and how they want them to express themselves and enjoy the game.
We on the other hand bring a talented and expressive kid like Josh in, point him at the Senior players and say "see those guys that have won absolutely nothing? We expect you to be just like them"

It's unbelievable how bad this club is run.

I have watched three YouTube videos and don’t want Draper anyway.

Still, this kind of thing is very rare. When did you last hear a report in mainstream media that a particular kid didn’t want to get drafted to a particular club because of concerns about that club’s culture? Underlines what an absolute shambles the club is.

while I agree the treatment of rachele was poor and unnecessary, and while it could still happen, if rachele was so upset by it surely he would request a trade back to Victoria?
I mean, he's got a good circle of mates here (I think I read he owns the house which he and Soli/Nank live in?) and an Adelaide partner, I doubt he'd organise to up and move after that incident, with that little notice

The fact that it wasn't completely nipped in the bud after Laird spoke makes me think either Nicks has no control on the players, or as a group they decided they wanted to publicly hit Rachele, which is an absolutely disgraceful way to deal with a player.

Rachele seemed to take it in stride. Good on him.

It wouldn't be at all surprising if others watching from afar were more perturbed.

Didn't a guy who got drafted by Essendon also say he wanted to stay in Victoria?

Yeah. Archie Perkins in 2020.
I seem recall Perkins tempering that though with the course he wanted to study and the uni he wanted to attend

He seemed to have an incredibly clear picture and plan for his life, at least in the short term future

Perkins in 2020

Bailey Smith also said it in 2018 I think. Rumours of Sheezel two years ago, too
Going back a ways but Wingard was also very clear with GWS that if they drafted him he'd be leaving as soon as his contract was up.

What does it say about Draper?
Stating you don't want to be drafted to a club off the back of single event that they've observed from afar, and with (I can only assume) very little understanding or context of the events that lead to up to that, is just being precious and presumptive. That's assuming it's the real reason. It may just as easily be about wanting influence and sway the selection process for other reasons (which means they are just being disingenous)

I personally just find it weird. If true, seems like he's just setting himself up to be booed when he's plays at AO

There are a few questions the more I think about it and the less blame I place on the club.

Rachele is a convenient excuse. Yeah it didnt look great but does draper act like that? No. Dowling, Taylor, Nankervis have all being playing. A more realistic excuse would have been Curtins treatment.

Questions:
Why the week of the AFL Grand Final?
- timing trade week. Melbourne with pick 5 is on the brink of losing two big midfielders in Petracca and Oliver and there are talks of losing Pickett. We have pick 4. That to me is a huge coincidence. This is concerning for the AFL.
The AFL are happy for the Crows to lose out.

This Rachele situation deserves to be brought up again for the steaming pile of shit it was but I don’t buy this report. Or at least, think it’s a substantial enough claim that it would impact whether we pick Draper or not.

Rankine copped it in his draft year for saying he wanted to stay in SA and play for us.

Was it the Adelaide recruiting team who said you'll get them back soon enough regarding Rankine and Lukosius?

I have zero issues with players coming home, I just have an issue with it only being an issue when it happens with WA and SA when those two states are the only ones more likely to extend their career beyond their initial club at another interstate side.

if we were a competent club, you would have never heard of any of this.
