Talia might play a couple of games, but is a long way back in the line for a KPP spot at this stage considering all our tall blokes are on the track. Whilst he has the body for it, he struggled a little with the step up last year to Senior footy and had trouble accustomising to the bigger, harder bodies. Probably needs another year at SANFL level before he seriously challenges for a spot, although hopefully it can come round sooner.
Agree James, though a spot may slide open for him if he can play the role of mobile 3rd tall. His athleticism is an advantage and we'd be planning on releasing Otten up the field.

What are peoples thoughts on Sloane from an SC standpoint? I thought he would be certain best 22 but some postsed round 1 teams have him as an emergency.

How's his pre-season tracking? Has he improved his fitness base?

Sloane is at an awkard price, at an average of 75 (midfielder only) picking him would basically mean you plan on him been a keeper. Whilst I believe his average can improve a bit for him to be a keeper in the middle you would want an average of around 95+ which I cannot see Sloane making this year. There is a lot of competition for spots in our side and with few injuries there are not many openings. I really liked what I saw of Sloane last year and I think we should see him in the side come round 1 (unless he gets injured or performs really poorly in the NAB cup) but I guess if he did string a few poor games in a row his spot in the 22 would be under question.

A cheaper option from the Crows list who could turn out alright is Martin, he will be priced a little higher then the number 1 draft pick (Swallow) and has already had a couple of good games in his very short career. Missed most of last season due to a knee reco but managed to get back for two games (rd 19 against the Dogs and 22 against St.Kilda). He dominated the match against St.Kilda racking up 28 touches, taking on the opposition and using his pace. Keep an eye on him in the NAB cup matches and if he is named in the rd1 side he is defiantly worth considering.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I was just trying to fit him in because I love the way he plays.

Are you guys a little cautious of martin considering he just came off a knee? Is he a lock in the 22 when so many other of your young up and comers playing well? ie Sloane, Hendo with the addition of Knights and Tambling?

Right now I'm flipping between Martin and Houli who by all reports has been killing it in training and taken on a real leadership role at the club.

I'm not really concerned by Martin's knee as the way he played against St.Kilda in his last game he looked perfectly fine and I haven't heard him having any problems with it in the pre season. I wouldn't have him as a lock in the 22 as of yet because as you said, there are a fair few players fighting for few spots. But he has been pretty impressive from the sounds of it in the training reports and if he does well in the NAB cup matches I could see him playing in round 1. His job secrity would be a worry so for now I would just keep an eye on how he goes as to whether he is worth considering later on.

Houli is an interesting prospect, the DP of mid/back makes him a little nicer when you will have players like Goddard, Deledio, Gibbs, Jacobs etc to switch around with. At pretty much the same price as Martin he is defiantly worth considering since he is doing well training. Where can you see him playing, along the half back flank type role or further up the ground?

Martin's knee is no issue anymore. It was better by the end of last season, and he's spent the whole preseason on the track.

I can't imagine him missing out on a spot in our best 22, but just in case you should watch our preseason games. For mine, though, he's second only to Mackay in that small backman/wing role. I'd be very surprised if he misses out, personally.

Would be interested to see your best 22, whilst I think Martin should be in the side I have him borderline with a few others are are very close for spots.

I see our team looking like:

B: Stevens, Rutten, Johncock
HB: Otten, Davis, Tambling
C: Mackay, Thompson, Douglas
HF: Dangerfield, Walker, Knights
F: Porplyzia, Tippett, Callinan
R: Jacobs, Vince, VB
INT: Reilly, Hendo, Doughty, McKernan
EMG: Sloane, Martin, Maric, Jaensch, Symes, Sellar, Moran

Would love to see Martin get a game over Doughty and surely Sloane would be in the best as well but I can't see how we can fit them in without injuries (or who should be left out of my 22). McKernan may not be on the bench/sub if we used someone like Stevens as a Leigh Brown style ruck otherwise I think he will be as Jacobs cant ruck 100% of the game and I'm sure we won't send Tippett in the ruck again. I thought Stevens could possibly be a sub as he is able to cover a numerous amount of position and could be handy if we had an injury ingame but I can't see Craig not having him in the best 21.

Also, Footy Tragic has a very good article/blog on the Crows and mention a few worthwhile keeping an eye out for in DT.

One thing that we desperately lack at Richmond (amoung many things) are goal kicking midfielders, I think Houli will end up playing midfield and rotating through the forward flank. From what I've seen at training he's been playing on the wing and one kick forward of the stappage.

Some people think he may play some footy at half back when Lids moves on ball but I think Hardwick may have others in mind for that role if indeed it does happen (which I think it won't).

Any thoughts on Johncock? I have him pencilled in as an upgrade some time after your first bye. Can you see his points decreasing/increasing with all the arrivals and departures recently? Or do you think it will all just balance out and he should stay the same?

What are your thoughts on chris knights. I have heard he has done his quad again but I still think he will be a great pick up but I'm not sure. Will he be playing his high hff role or in the midfield. What do you think he will average in dt.

Also how do u think otter will go in the midfield

He should be back doing full training this week I am pretty sure (had been restricted to running last week). There is nothing to stop him averaging what he did in 09, I would suspect we will see his average around 80-90 this year.

Otten has spent some time in the midfield training group so I wouldn't be too surprised to see him in the midfield at some time but they might start him off in the backline just to get him back up to the speed of AFL again.

Hey just wanted to know how Tambling is training. Not so much for dreamteam, just out of interest.

Cheers.

Has fitted in well, and Macca has taken it upon himself to be his mentor, which is a nice touch.:thumbsu: From reports, looked a little scratchy during training at times, but has certainly recovered from his hip surgery fine. Not sure if he'll play early in the NAB Cup (club might take the cautious approach), but round 1? Definetley.

I wouldn't worry too much about that quad injury to be honest. He should be back in full training soon. If not then maybe start to worry but from what I've heard it isn't too bad.

Hey guys,

Is Otten in full training right now and at 100%? Do you see him playing more up the ground this year?

Hey guys and girls,

How is Porplyzia looking for this year? Had a down year last season but I seem to remember towards the end of the year he began to turn it around a little.

Otten has trained very well and has been in the midfield group for some of the time at least.

Porps seems to have had a very good pre-seasons but will probably spend most time in the forward line. Will improve on last years socring but not sure he is worth it for DT and SC.

At this stage Otten Callianan and Tippett are my only Crows players. The last one an emotional pick more than anything.
