Hey thoughts on Chris Masten? Priced at just under 300k and in his 3rd year he looks alright to me, just wondering others thoughts on him. Missed two games in 09' and averaged 66.

Halp :D

a few bargains i noticed-

mark mcveigh-hasnt been a whole lot of talk about him at this stage. i know he can miss a few games through injury/suspension but is a good player who averaged 90 in 08. could be a low end keeper in the mids or generate enough cash for a straight upgrade to a fallen gun.

clinton young- again hasnt been much talk about him, been a few whispers of groin trouble so have to see if he plays in the nab cup. averages 85 in 08 after missing most of last year. like mcveigh best case scenario low end keeper or straight upgrade to fallen gun

thoughts?

Mastens PROs:

- Will get games and game time
- His fitness is right up with the best at WC
- Can get the touches

Cons:
- Inside player so he'll earn every possession. He's still young so he might slow down later in the year.
- Might cop a tag for the first time, especially if Kerr doesn't play
- Talk is he'll be rotated through the forward line, where he's usless DT wise.

McVeigh is out for Round 1, but other than that is not a bad option.

Young is apparently out of the rehab group but his training is somewhat modified still at this stage. We are being very careful with him. Maybe a chance for Round 1 but like you said watch the NAB cup and keep checking up on it.

after hearing woosha talk about where kerrs at, im seriously considering getting on him.. he said he hasnt seen him this fit and this ready to go since 07 when he was destroying teams. come round one he will be at peak touch playing all the praccy matches and with more support from our kids (masten, swift etc)..
anyone else considering it??? bloody good price.

That doesn't change the fact that he can't handle a tag. No go for me.

yeh i get where your coming from but last year he had no pre season so couldnt run it off and we no mids to help him out... now wiht a full pre season and alot more support oppostition teams have so much more to worry about than 'shut down ker and you shut down wc'.
meh, im going down to watch the intraclub tonight, will be able to guage if we've got our kerr of old back.

I can imagine most people are over Kerr but it's getting to the point where he almost can't let you down at the price...Unless he misses bulk games with injury/suspension.

If you have a look at what he's scored over the years, his 61 last year was the 2nd lowest score he had in a 9 year career. The lowest was 60 in his first season.

Surely he'll improve upon that 61!

Was thinking today, someone that has come extremely under the radar is Daniel Rich. At only 339k, what are people's thoughts on this guy? IMO there is no reason why he can't better his average of 09 by 5-10 points :thumbsu:

Ask yourself.

What average am I looking for to have a mid qual as a keeper?

At what initial price tag would I expect someone to remain in my team as a keeper?

What was Rich's average in 09?

If I add 5 - 10 pts to this will he become a keeper?

I know what my answer is

Look at the other options people are thinking about at that mid-priced 300-350k mark!

Dalziell- Possible tagging role? Job security?
Armitage- Injury concerns and job security
David Mackay- Potential and possible job security concerns
Shaun Burgoyne- Injury worries, tagging worries
Josh P. Kennedy- Injury worries and scoring potential
Tom Swift- Massive injury concerns

None of those players played 22 games last year... Daniel Rich did. He averaged 78. If he is to add 10 to his average which is very much possible he will average 88 and should play close to every game. Find me a midpriced midfielder who will consistently average that :thumbsu:

Address each 1 on its own merit.

There is no rule saying that you must take a midpriced midfielder. If in YOUR opinion no mid price midfielder fits the criteria then change your structure.

Having said that IMO there is plenty of good options in the Midprice category

I honestly think that if you are looking at spending that sort of money then you would want someone who will more then likely be a keeper. 5-10 points on his 09 average isnt keeper status for me.....but you never know, he may just add a few more points on your thinking.

It's all about minimal trades to get your team set, you dont want to be caught in the middle of players fckn about and questioning whether they are keepers or not.

Dmack's a certain starter for our Round 1 game and unless he gets injured he should keep his spot. Unfortunately he missed about a month last year with a hamstring and has had hammy problems in the past but he's had an incident free pre season.

this is crap, he had a bit of tightness so didnt play the intraclub, same with kennedy woosha is super cautious pre season, if a player fart sounded a bit strange woosh would rest them.

From what I have read Swift will miss the first round of the NAB cup also

so? we have never given a shit about nab. the seasons still quite a while away. im sure he could play but why risk him for a nab game, doesnt make sense for a 2nd year player.

either way im swapping swifty for masten anyway, hes gonna explode this year.

Any Carlton fans know how Kane Lucas is going, do they think he will be getting any game time ?

Dont forget swift has had two knee reco's already, he may have played a bit of footy last year but another knee injury would bench him for a long time.
