Fyfe not on Danger Martin level at the moment.
unfortunately he doesn't seem like the player he was from before his broken leg. any potential mismangement comments aside, it just seems like he could end up being a 'ruined' player. Already got a brownlow i know but is no where near what he could be

Sooner or later opposition players are going to stop trying to get to his body mass when they tackle and realise if he sticks his arm in their direction and runs in the other, it is entirely within the rules for them just to grab his wrist and yank his shoulder out of its socket.
Sooner or later.
He's only been fending off opponents for 8 years.

If you look at the stats sheet for last night you would think Martin had a run of the mill really good midfielder game, but that's just because there isn't any one statistic which accurately records footballers turning contested 50-50 situations into lace out easy goal scoring opportunities for their team- there aren't words to describe how good he was last night, one of the most impressive finals performances I've ever seen.

That said, that fend off is a serious shoulder injury waiting to happen- Sooner or later opposition players are going to stop trying to get to his body mass when they tackle and realise if he sticks his arm in their direction and runs in the other, it is entirely within the rules for them just to grab his wrist and yank his shoulder out of its socket.
Except if they tried this tactic, their fingers would explode off their hands due to the sheer awesomeness flowing through dustys arm :p

Those saying "just tackle him by the hips" - his hips/legs/arse are stronger than his fend off. Players literally just fall to the ground when they try to tackle him around the waist. Look at the Geelong player who attempted it before he hit Grigg in the square in the last quarter. He actually gets 2 hands on him around the hip area but the effect it had on Martin was akin to a light gust of wind.

Those saying "tackle him by the arm and destroy his shoulder" - a lot of the time his arm retracts faster than when he extends it to make contact with the chest, leaving you no time to grab it. It's also really hard to apply any strength to a tackle when you've got a hand on your chest and you're being forced backwards.

After watching him do it for the last 8 years, there's definitely a lot of technique involved (as opposed to just brute strength). Often he will wait until the would be tackler has one foot off the ground and then he fends them off as their centre of gravity is nowhere near optimal with only one foot on the ground (think his 'fly swat' on Tim Taranto in first GWS game this year)

The best way to counter it is to gang tackle. He has been caught many times this way, probably at least once a game this year. It's just that, as another poster alluded to earlier, he will often draw 2 or 3 tacklers and then suddenly we have 2 or 3 loose players on the outside of the stoppage. He shoots a handball out and we are away.

Still think Dangerfield is better, just, But Martin has certainly narrowed it.
Dangerfield had a stinker last night and Martin had a blinder, people seem to have short memories.....one swallow doesn't make a summer.

Martin was huge last night.

Richmond probably would've won without his influence the way the game unfolded, but a few big moments were Martin moments. He killed any hope Geelong had. The kick from 60 out on the boundary to the square - no other Richmond player makes that kick. Etc.
We apologise for the unfairness of a player for our side being quite good.

More equalisation please.

And on top of all that if it isnt enough, his decision making and execution is fan****entastic.

Danger is dangerous and explosive around goals and can take a nice mark, but he is too much about himself and his kicking to a target is no where near Dusty's or meters gained. Dusty guy can lace out a 50 meter stab pass, his score assists are high, he creates attacking plays time and time again. Basically Martins possessions hurt oppositions more than Danger ie has more impact overall.
Dont get me wrong, Danger is an absolute gun and I felt that Danger didn't adjust to the MCG, his impact up forward was less (possibly covering Joel Selwood's lack of creativity/fitness/run due to being under done)

One huge difference between the two is that in defence or midfield when they get the ball, Danger usually picks first option to pass the ball, whereas unless trapped or caught, Dusty will ignore the handball but run and hit a target 40-50 metres away thus huge meters gain...

Ie Danger is dangerous attacking side of the ground, Dusty is dangerous everywhere
