"and present."?! So, you're saying our past attempts aren't a thing of the past?

So, we're rich but can't get a date? Bloody hell, even Jeffrey Edelstein manages to attract some 'young stars'.

Correct I think Kimbo lol. We tried during this just wound up trade period and were unsuccessful. In the past when a star has wanted out we haven't been seriously considered by them or their management.

And when we make enquires with other clubs about contracted players we give a no when they ask for one player in particular. Has happened time and time again.

We want guns but are only interested in trading out trash.

Or you finish bottom 4 and have a decent draft pick to trade.

Pretty sure most people know which is more likely.

North's need to address their outside midfield depth with pace and skill level. I don't believe that was immediately achieved over the off season and draftees take time.

I expect North will surprise some teams this season but after the second half of last season and moving on a core group of experienced players together with their injury list this preseason it would be a risky proposition putting money on Norths making the top 8 in 2017.

Are you lost?

Does that players name rhyme with Moldstein?

I thought Aish was rubbish last year TBH. He probably improved a minuscule amount in the second half of the year. But only because he couldn't get any worse. He still could be a decent player but last years performance doesn't make me feel like we missed out on anything.

Dumont > Aish.

We have no outside midfielders with pace, let alone depth, haven't for quite some time. Wells and Boomer were agile but weren't quick, both were often run down from behind by quick mids.

Our problem in the second half last year is we stopped using the corridor and didn't move the ball with purpose, in the first half we did and scored well, second half we didn't and struggled to score. That was the primary issue. We have a lot of other problems outside of gameplan and poor coaching, but all clubs do.

I think our core midfield is largely the same, as good as Wells was, last year was his first year in a while he was able to make it on the park and it was our worst result, as good as he is individually, he hasn't been as critical to the team performing well, he is more of a force multiplier that if everything else is functioning well, he will make it better.

We have far more critical elements needed to be competitive, that revolves around our inside group (which is still intact), our defensive group and the ability to rebound and move the ball with purpose.

Side that I think would be the best side for us this year given availability:

Defence: Tarrant(27/84), Williams(23/68), Wright(26/116), Durdin(20/0), Macmillan(25/104), Vickers-Willis(20/0)

Midfield: Atley(24/132), Ziebell(26/147), Clarke(19/6)

Forward: Brown(24/55), Wood(23/16), Waite(34/221), Higgins(29/161), Thomas(29/196), Hrovat(22/30)

Midfield: Goldstein(28/171), Cunnington(25/145), Dumont(21/20)

Bench: Jacobs(25/75), McDonald(22/52), Simpkin(19/0), Preuss(21/0)

Despite the players we have cut, I don't think Daw(26), Gibson(30), Hansen(28), Mullett(25), Swallow(29) or Thompson(30) are that critical, most will likely play a fair bit due to injuries. There is nothing wrong with these players individually, they just are not critical to the team going forwards imo.

Other players in the next tier: Ahern (wont play 2017), Anderson (I don't rate but others do), Garner (injury prone), McKay (KPF), Nielson(KPD), Turner and Wagner.

Then like all clubs, we have a bunch of unknowns and depth-ish standard players.

The biggest issue is that Scott hasn't had the stones to play guys like Durdin and EVW ahead of underperformers like Thompson and Hansen. He is also likely to rely heavily on the surplus senior players I have listed. I don't necessarily believe it will make us stronger on-field playing the more experienced players. I think Dogs having that evolution made them a better side in the short-term, keeping all the old timers while safe, is usually not the most productive thing.

What is important for us for 2017 is not rely on individual like we have in the past with Boomer and Wells, too many of our other midfielders waste too many opportunities going forward and we have relied too much on Wells and Harvey in the past. I don't expect the other guys to be as good as the guys we have lost going inside 50, but they need to transition away from wasteful disposals to ones that are just put out in front and give our forwards an advantage, which doesn't require sublime skills, just AFL standard skills.

Just putting my thoughts out there, it is not there solely for the person I reply to. Other people might wander by and be interested.

Richmond fans should tell us again how Chaplin was the greatest pickup of all time.
Especially when Tripod tackled him in the third quarter of the Elim Final at the G in 2015. The Tiger army were blowing him sweet kisses after that quality bit of play.

but after the second half of last season and moving on a core group of experienced players together .

Playing group were stunned that Boomer (with form on his side) didn't get the nod for 2017....then before Scott and Co rightened the ship it was too late. Remember Scott recently was reported not happy to be singled out with the club when news hit the media outlets that the 4 players were given the heave ho......thats fact. Hard to put a positive spin of the playing group when bambi was shot eh?

Yeah, Damo Barrett.

Will fizzle away to nothing and he won't even acknowledge he was completely wrong yet again with his earth-shattering scoop.

Does this at least half a dozen times a year these days.
Yeah hardly a scoop, dusty is a gun, and every clubs list managers would be speaking to his management, thats what they're paid to do. Every club could fit him into their salary cap if they wanted to come seasons end, north just obviously do now and reckon Barrett is picking the low lying fruit there stating the obvious.
