Saints could pull a stunning trade period off.

Hanneberry is a strange one, but if he is 1 of 3 or 4 quality recruits, all of a sudden things look different.
Offer Gaff 1.1m
Offer Shiel 1.1m

Midfield starts to look pretty good with Ross, Steven, Gaff, Shiel, and Hanneberry supported by Billings, Clark, Acres & Coffield.
the hard part is convincing the first one to convince the others

Yep, small matter of a salary cap. 3 players for $3m doesn't work.

I think the club will trade out one of Shiel/Lobb to ease the SC concerns and if the Shiel is happy to stay then the club can try and work a deal with Lobb it is a matter of if Shiel can be enticed out of the Giants and that is where the players salary comes into it

Lobb is an interesting one. I'm no GWS list expert but I assume that the greatest list need for GWS (if there is such a need) is to upgrade their ruck stocks.
If he goes, GWS recieves some currency in return. If Shiel goes, GWC recieves (a lot) more currency. Does GWS throw all of that currency at a club in return for one of the league's premium rucks?

And your point is?
You are currently miles off being competitive let alone pushing for finals.
Absolutely delusional to think you will be contending in 2020

Okay, so you've taken my usage of playing finals as contending.

They are not synonymous.

5 years is you sprouting complete garbage, that sort of hyperbole isn't necessary.

Delusional to believe we could have once finished outside the eight and still won a final.

Hang around good time are coming back...

GWS do not want picks, they want trading currency to insta-fix their list and cap imbalances to go for 2019 flag.

This makes no sense. Trading currency = picks.

GWS need to make a call on who and what is missing in their current list. They need to target those players using the currency they obtain in trades.

The cap prevents them from selling the farm to obtain free agents without any trades. There has to be give and take.

uhh, let me spell it out further then.

GWS do not want picks to keep for new recruits, they want picks to use as trade currency.

Thought that was pretty clear.

Not an issue. St Kilda only just meet the 95% cap minimum, and that’s with years of front-loading contracts. Hell, they were struggling to meet it whilst paying Riewoldt and Montagna “overs” in their final years, and their loss cleared a huge amount (was intended for Free Agents but the club is a mess so no one came and they had to re-jig contracts).

So they have a large number of players on relative peanuts, plus the ability to spend 105% of the cap for three years. It wouldn’t be inconceivable, but it’s not going to happen because there’s no way Shiel and Gaff would come across.

Who says we can't match your financial offer? We just aren't that silly, you & Saints will have to cough up more than us for him to pick you guys.
Wait you changed your tune from you know & have known before anyone else even knew he was a possibility of being traded to, “Carlton & St Kilda must be offering more”, what happened to the confidence?

I assume it took a hike over to the Wingard thread.

If he nominates Carlton, and not sure why he would, I would say pick 1 for Shiel and Gws 1st pick (or Setterfield)

Carlton would still win those trades imo.

Carlton would have to add something to that deal, he's worth a top 3 pick on his own.

Maybe something like this

Shiel and 12 for pick 1 and 24

Don't worry about Carlton, we are a rabble. Even if players want to be traded to us - We wont be a threat to any of you guys in the very near future. Really.

From some reports, I think it was yesterday.
Yes it was.

He will announce next week that he wants to come home to Melbourne and the Hawks are his preferred destination.

A lot of water to go under the bridge because at least 3 other clubs are also very interested.

The Hawks are working on another deal that could make it very hard to get Dylan given that some other clubs can offer more money and better draft picks.
