Does anyone seriously think that GWS will let Shiel go to any club that doesn’t give them a top 10 draft pick in return?
Sure do.

Trade will likely end up Pick 14 + something. Maybe 2019 first has to be the something, may not.Sure do.
If I was a Hawks supporter I would say yes
I carry my popcorn in my avatar.Love the salt towards Hawthorn. We land him and this joint will melt.
Get the popcorn.
GWS would get a deal done with any club that Shiel nominates, and that deal would be predicated more on making do with what that club has to offer and not what GWS would like.
It's not overconfidence as a Hawks supporter, it's just a realisation that contracts mean half of what they used to and the player has most of the power in any deal that happens. Until clubs are allowed a similar amount of power to trade players to other teams, this is how it will remain.
It would be similar to if Gunston wanted out and nominated another top line club - we might want more, but the reality is we'd never get true value for him.
Mate, by all reports Shiel himself wouldn’t mind staying at GWS another year.
So if GWS can get another year out of Shiel and still get close to the pick 14 in compensation next year, why would they even entertain giving Shiel to hawks this year for pick 14 lol
No way Shiel goes anywhere without a cub throwing back a top 10 pick at least, and more likely a pick in the top 6
Not trying to get into a negative discussion, but do you honestly believe that a professional club would put themselves in the situation that you have theorised?

I can only go based on what has been reported, and what has been reported is that GWS are under considerable salary cap stress. Shiel can't just stay another year if it puts them in breach of their salary cap, they'd have to shed other players to do so and obviously Shiel is a player in a role where they have ample cover.
Regardless, in my post I said that the deal will get done with respect to what the nominated club has - not just Hawthorn.
No point arguing over something that has been rehashed a million times anyway. We'll just have to wait and see.
But because Shiel is contracted to GWS for at least another year, his current salary would already be factored into their salary cap.
So they can keep and play him for another 12 months and then straight up let him go as a free agent to eheverevr he wants to go which will free up space for them next year as well as give them a compo pick that’s very close to hawks pick this year.
And if they need some relied on their cap at the end of this year, surely they can ship out some lesser players to free up a couple hundred grand this year if they need it.
Just seems to me that it’s not worth it for GWS to let Shiel go now for no real benefit rather than let him go next year for the same benefit as now.
That’s why I say, GWS would be looking to let him go now only if a club offers them up something much better than they can get next year as compo.
I'm not saying we'll get him for nothing, but at the same time a 14 this year seemingly has more value than a 14 next year (if their list remains fit and they're challenging maybe less) due to draft quality, and we have an opportunity to throw in some steak knives that are of value to them. Pick 14 and Jon Ceglar with most of Ceglar's contract being paid by us seems fair on the face of it. They get a solid AFL level ruck who is ready to come in and make an impact, and they get a better pick than they would as compo depending on where they finish next year.
They're not going to say "No top 10 no deal" - they'll just do the deal with what is available.
If Shiel ends up a hawk I have no doubt you guys will be giving up this & next years firsts. Probably have to be cleared by the afl first cos aren’t you guys suppose to use a first this year or next? Anyway, the afl would likely endorse it considering they’ve done the same for the cats.
No melt from me as long as they don’t get him for a bag of chips. If they give up a fair price good luck to themLove the salt towards Hawthorn. We land him and this joint will melt.

Potentially, they've got a lot of big deals and short term deals that would hinge on premiership success whilst bringing in players like Deledio for short term success. I doubt they were betting on having the injury list they did this year and last year, and with their best 22 would have been deserved favourites.
Re-signing Kelly for a tilt at a premiership, having to pay overs for a lot of players that no doubt would have had big offers elsewhere doesn't make for healthy TPP. I don't think it's unprofessional at all but I think they would have been gearing up for a real tilt at premiership success and they've found themselves behind schedule and potentially out of contention.
Their list quality has no equal, it would not shock me for them to be pushing cap limits. What does shock me is that they're not looking at a trade option for Patton who would be on big money and is looking unlikely to ever be his best after a third reco.
Dunno mate. Like i said a few posts ago, I havent followed it closely, but it has been reported in the media that you guys have impending cap issues and need to clear some cash to avoid issues.
Any truth to that?
Would have through Essendon would be interested too.
Sounds like he stays or the Hawks.
If he moves, best fit would be the Hawks at this time.
Not sure why Blues fans are so keen on him, a big name signing is nice, I get that, but he is going to be
circa 29 in the blink of an eye, 3 years goes fast.
Focus should be on getting 50 games into our young kids, would prefer setterfield, Walsh and the Gov personally.
Goodluck Hawks.
Lets face it, he'd be great in the midfield Crippa needs all the support that he can get. I'd love to have him.
Having said that, I'd be more than happy to land Walsh and McGovern.
