Early Fevola trade analysis

The question on the thread is is the trade a win or loss, the test assuming ok run with injuries is our year end win loss. 13 wins is the minimum.

I have always said my expectation is atleast 13 wins as yes we lost fev but we should expect massive improvement from our young list plus we got Mclean.

I think that we have to play the waiting game a bit longer with our forward line. What we have now is a massively improved forward line where everyone is working for the team and are all targets up front. I think that with the 3 small indigenious boys up front running amok, it might have actually fast tracked our forward lines settling down into a cohesive unit.

I think that after 5 rounds, we are seeing that Lucas is going to be awesome for us in the future and that Henderson, while it might take a couple of years for him to finish developing, is going to be an excellent option for us up front.

The overall effect I am seeing from the Fevola trade is that the team balance is really starting to even itself out and instead of only having one good forward, our forward line is a lot more even and that is also affecting the rest of the teams balance because they all know that when we go forward, we have a number of options instead of trying to kick it to one player in a 1 on 2 or 1 on 3 situation.

The final effects on this arent going to be seen for possibly another 12-18 months, but I reckon that we are all going to be damned happy in the end.

Fev was a champion for the club during our bad years, but I dont think that he would have been such a good player when we really had a champion team.

The reality is he is hardly taking any marks or kicking any goals both which i kind of like from a key fwd getting silver service from the top midfield in the comp.

Don't listen to Ratten when he says how well the forward line worked with the talls leading further up the ground to create more room for the smalls to run into.

They both played their roles very well.

I was a massive defender of the Fev and sorry to see him go, but I'm coming to agree with those who suggested he was a hangover from the "dark years".

Since he's been gone, regardless of stats,
* our forward structure looks young, dangerous and far less predictable.
* As well as the three amigos, there seems to be more options with talls who can swap in (Kreuzer, Waite, Hampson) should the need arise.
* It's given Hoops a new lease on life.
* We can no longer be accused of having a one-dimensional forward line.
* Lucas looks like a third year player - massive win for us on current form.

All those who tore up memberships and suggested there was no way we'd get 80 goals from anywhere else appear to have made a booboo. :p
Agree BB- our forward line looks more dangerous than it ever has.

Also, for those that can be bothered about stats, Fevola's first 4 years were not that flash:

  • 1999 - 2 Games, 0 Goals, 0 Behinds
  • 2000 - 14 Games, 26 Goals, 29 Behinds
  • 2001 - 16 Games, 27 Goals, 25 Behinds
  • 2002 - 9 Games, 13 Goals, 11 Behinds.
Wait till Hendersons played 40/50 games before judging him or comparing him to Fevola at his peak.

IMO if Hendo actually kicked goals the fwd line would function even better. i AM IN THIS TO WIN A FLAG NOT BE AN ALSO RAN. For us to win a flag he needs to lift big time or we need to try something else.`

What he needs to do is play the role that the coach asks him to play in order for us to win. Some weeks it'll be to play close to goal, some weeks it'll be as a target around the 50 and other weeks it'll be to lead up the ground to create space for our smalls. Would you agree that the way the coach has set the forward line up the last few weeks has enabled us to win?

Yeah like sacking Ratten? :rolleyes::eek:

Eggs no longer in one shaky basket, says Walls
'All the eggs in one basket - and a shaky basket at that - is not the way to go,'' Walls said of Fevola.

''They did a really strong act in getting rid of Fevola last year and that means the forward line has options, and you saw that last week with the three indigenous boys [(Eddie Betts, Chris Yarran and Jeff Garlett] kicking seven between them.

''Lachie Henderson's a work in progress up forward, [Matthew] Kreuzer can be a part of it up forward; they're on the right track, no doubt about that.''

While Walls is bullish about Carlton's future, he still believes the young Blues will take time to become legitimate flag contenders.

''This Carlton team that'll play on the weekend is one of the three youngest teams in the 16 going around,'' he said.

These puff pieces might backfire on us big time if we lose.

Well, that will be the perception of a few. ;)

Just shows we're in the media for the right reasons now. I'd take this yarn, that essentially tells the simple story of our new forward line post-Fev (and, for the conspiracy theorists, indicates a Buckley-coached Collingwood with an interest in Carlos), and the Hoops recap over Drunken Dildo Urinates on Naked Lara Bingle at Crown Casino.

My feeling is Ratts would like him to actually get the ball.

Weren't we told the Fev/Brown KP forward combo was going to be unstoppable?

What went wrong?

:)

The lions mids are very slow and they are missing numerous key defenders and lost brennan and drummond during the game.

Surprised they flicked mcdonald as well.

I was surprised they went for Fev when they had Bradshaw never made sense to me.

Also lets not get to excited I will wait and see how we go against Freo and Melb.

not often a Coleman medalist lands in your lap.

Think Vossy's ego got caught up in the media spotlight during trade week. For some reason he didn't address his list weaknesses i.e. slow, aging midfield. Their defense ain't great either. Bradshaw would work better than Fev with their midfield. Fev needs lots of midfield talent, and fast ball movement like he got with us. He's now having to fight for opportunities from sloppy delivery, and trying not to get in the road of Brown who's chronic hip injury has flared up again. Looks like a total disaster, just starting to unfold. Trading away all their draft picks on the eve of the compromised drafts was also breathtakingly stupid. Brisbane reminds me a lot of Freo 2007 after they went top-up crazy and then imploded.

:)

You're right there BRIB.

Their midfielder is one paced and arguably more unaccountable than Carlton's.

We might lack a Brown and Fevola inside fifty, yet our forwards apply more defensive pressure than Brisbane's.

After one and a bit pre-seasons, Yarran has the endurance to keep chasing and use his lightning speed to run players down.

Yarran dumping the clutch and taking off is brilliant to watch.

Ziebell might have a few leg injuries, yet he moves like a draught horse.
