Totally delusional, as the Woods F1 could be around pick 13/14 itself meaning that Col think Noble is worth 23 & 29......fair bit of arrogance in that demand, and like you said GC need to be strong and tell em to get stuffed over that scenario!!!
Do GCS even want Noble? If so why. Rioli, Powell, Uwland is fine for HBs. Why would they trade for a 28rd old who isn't a top 15 player at a club that hasn't made finals and wasn't in the team that last played finals.

Noble's worth so much he got dropped for their finals campaign and they won the flag without him.

No offense to the guy, who is AFL quality, but at his age, late 2nd is maximum value

Interesting looking at the top 10 in our B&F:

5 of the 10 were top 15 picks (Cripps, Walsh, Weiters, Mckay, Curnow)
4 of the 10 were value trades (Newman, Hewett, Acres, Kennedy)
1 of the 10 another draftee (TDK)

None of our high profile trade targets (Gov, Saad, Cerra, Williams) featured.

2024 was a bad year for all our high profile targets including Martin due to injury.

Explains why we nearly missed the finals...!

OK So my FOMO is in overdive right now but this sums up what I also think:
Austin et al. aren't going to move an inch in the early days of trade mania....

They must stand firm on #12 is to be used on a kid.... for now.

Likewise, Port will stand firm on the 2 firsts requirement.

Publicly, at least.

But I'm sure CFC (and Houston if we're really into him) are both on the same page as to how the strategy will play out...

Agree the chest beating and posturing will drag out all week, it’s a farce, trade period is drawn out, 10 days is too long.
The boys are eager for Dan Houston to be added,Sam Walsh’s reaction & comments a few nights ago said it all.

So Carlton's brain trust feel it is a better move to spend Pick 12 on an untried kid rather than a 2 x AA in Houston?

Am I reading this correctly..?

Think you have laid out the extreme options

Like many other clubs, we want at least 1 pick in the first round this year and use our F1 to facilitate the Houston trade

This could achieve both outcomes

likely pick 12 and something else, plus a fairly big contract.

So two 'untried kids' (and draft level contracts) from a reportedly deep draft with a lot of player types that we're after, and that pretty much every club else wants to be involved in the top 20-30...

Might be an idea to look at said kids in the mix before deciding that you've asked a rhetorical question.

All-Australian selection can mean absolutely nothing in some cases, and frankly that's how I feel about Houston's dual effort. Good player, but not worth what's being asked, and not really a difference maker.

If we needed a player like Houston, we can just move Docherty to defence.

I see him as an upgrade/replacement for Newy (turning 32 next year).

Four years+ younger. Bigger unit. More offensively minded.

And a much better, more penetrating kick.

We're about to get Lucas Camporeale to replace Newman, and we've also got Cowan, Cincotta, and likely Monahan back there. We need raw speed in defence, and a key defender.

you don't give a boy a man's job....

Lucas not ready for the NN role...

isn't he an outside mid/winger?

He's been playing off HB most of the year, and I'm referring to a long-term replacement. We don't need an immediate replacement for Newman, who has done well to trim down and keep himself in the selection mix.

If he goes down, we have Boyd, Docherty, Wilson, and potentially Monahan, and that's all without considering that we may be looking at Ollie Hollands to switch to playing as more of a running defender.
