Re: Brendan Fevola?

also Ill add like RUNVS suggests above, that business wise we are now competing in NSW with GWS for very limited column space in the newspapers, good or bad he is a human headline. :)

I'll guarantee his first night out in Sydney - if anyone gets wind of him being The Fev - someone will try and knock him out and you'll get your headline straight away!

Re: Brendan Fevola?

He goes against everything the club stands for culturally. I think Goodes once said in an interview that they are all ultimately a part of the culture and that although players come and go the belief and culture (need a synonym!) they've built is intact and should be passed on from generation to generation as they are merely enforcing it. Do not need a ******** like Fev to undo that by stepping into the door. It just seems wrong to recruit him for 2 years or so and obtain some sort of short term success whilst screwing up our best asset in the long run.

It isn't as if he hasn't had chances to prove he has changed either, Carlton, Brisbane and now that bar incident just shows he needs to mature as a person before he can become a valid contributor to the club outside of the football ground. Not the sort of person you'd want at a club with so much pride in its environment and bloods history - just a stain on the reputation. Pass.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

If he had put his family first by doing everything he could to resurrect his career e.g. giving up alcohol altogether, gambling of all types including pokies and horse racing then i would definately support giving him a chance at our club but he has failed to do any of those things. To make it worse he has also been suspended for an incident in his last game.

If he really was serious about getting his career back on the rails there is no way he would do something as stupid as going out with his team drinking to celebrate after the season.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

last couple of posts are all good arguments against Fev, hey Im not trying to sell him, Im just offering possible pros

Re: Brendan Fevola?

Sign him on as a player coach to work with Blakey perhaps when it comes to game day, on field direction, general assistance et al and not so much with the tactics on a year by year contract.

Put him on at $200k a year but write a clause into the contract where Swans may withold everything but the bare minimum if he gets picked up by police and is at undeniable fault.

Say what you want but having Reid at CHF, Fev at FF and White as a 3rd tall until Fevs retirement would be magical as he's an inspiring player (more so than Goodes when he plays as a foward imo)

I don't think people quite understand how much losing your life burns into your mind mainly because many haven't experinced such turmoil yet its easy to sit back and judge those who have and write them off on past issues, yes you may take a small step back here and there but no matter what will you ever makes the same mistakes twice (inb4 "well what happened at Brisbane then lol")

I honestly think if any club picks him up he'll be a great assest, as for the amount of trouble he'd get in? He'd be careful to stear clear of any but his worst would be no worse than your average footballer even players from the Swans.

Is he essential to a Swans premiership? No.
Can add something to the team without robbing others? Yes.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

I am also not sure the Swans can afford the sexual harrassment suit that is bound to happen when Fevola is actually in the same shower as O'Keefe after training.

I expect there to be setbacks with any addict and they can be forgiven but im not sure if he has ever admitted to himself that he has a problem and just says what society expects him to say.

I have heard him say when he was asked to leave the casino that his gambling problem only applies to horseracing, pokies dont count as far as his gambling addiction is concerned.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

HAHAHA I LOVE THAT PICTURE!

ROK looks so awks.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

Barry Hall was a big bad dude who never quite changed his ways but he got us a premiership. Just saying ......

Besides, we don't have a single reliable goal-kicker inside 50. Reid marks but can't kick. Spanker is a work in progress and White can neither mark nor kick goals. In the meantime.....the delivery into our forward line is often a product of forwards standing around waiting for the long bomb and then they all go up together. We move the ball in so slowly the entire AFL is camped inside 50 waiting for the big one to come in. When it does come to ground our crumbers are absent because everyone's gone up for the mark and they're lying on their bums watching the opposition team run off

Re: Brendan Fevola?

Barry Hall was like 19 and not given multiple opportunities.

He was 24, but your point still stands when comparing him when he came to Sydney to Fev being traded to Sydney. But if you look at Barry Hall going to the Bulldogs next to Fev coming to Sydney, it might be a better comparison.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

Hall > Fev in just about every aspect.

I remember many Swans fans (myself included) calling Carlton fans deluded for reckoning the Swans should trade Veszpremi, White and a high draft pick for Fevola. Putting aside Fevola's off-field issues and focusing purely on his ability, that doesn't look such a bad deal from our perspective in hindsight!

One player I wouldn't mind the Swans looking at, who probably wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, is Jacob Surjan. He did have some injury issues this year but not enough to explain why he played so few games. I read recently that he was looking for a move to get more opportunities. He would be a decent small/medium defender that might release Shaw to play exclusively next year as a rebounding defender or could release Smith to the midfield.

Re: Brendan Fevola?

In the daily telegraph today Bolton says the club will be looking for a forward to partner future superstar sam reid..I imagine the club has been looking at the fev with great interest, and IMO fev is a massive chance to come to Sydney next year :) Me personally I hope he does I love fev and would definitely go watch him play, and i beleive we can help turn his life around and get him on track like we have done with plugger and hall!

Re: Malceski to GWS ?

I just read the Swans season review, dunno how much to make of it but it says Malceski who suffered his third knee injury and played out the season with groin issues, with a good pre-season should be back to his best next year, no hint of him leaving.

Mal will not go anywhere! I will guarantee you no Club would make a play for a guy with this many knee problems. Just won't happen. 3 lars surgeries including one this year. He'll be at the Club next year and will be better off with another pre-season.

Ain't this the damn truth. It kills me. I know guys like Braddy and Hally are guns for a reason but say with Braddy last year we would constantly find him one out in the square in room. Why can't we do this anymore?? Do we not back the abilities of our own Forwards? Are we too afraid to kick it one out in case we turn it over too quick?

This needs to change. Reid was getting triple teamed at times!!!! Triple teamed!!! No wonder guys like Spangher/White/Rohan hardly touched the ball. It just got kicked long and floating and then fisted back out of the 50. It was embarrassing. If there is one thing I want fixed about this team it has to be this. Enough of the kicking long to a congested contest and trying to lock the ball in.
