SaltyOr the Priddis Brownlow,
There were 2 giants players right there. Neither claimed out of bounds. This thread is full of weirdos who dont seem to enjoy the spectacle of footy or appreciate skill. From where i was sitting i have no idea how it could of possibly been out of bounds like people are claiming.
Might be biased, but still rate Hawkins' effort as more GOTY worthy.
I cannot understand why anyone would put a kick off the ground from 50m as a goal of the year? I wouldn't have that in my top 50 for the year.Loved Eddie's goal but even as a card-carrying Geelong hater, I thought Hawkins' goal was better. Lumbering bison kicks a bouncing ball off the deck, from well outside 50... come off it, what a goal! It's just a shame he wasn't in front of a full G, the reaction would've been awesome.

David King kicked one from inside the centre square.Really? List all the other times and the players that you've seen do it? It was a complete fluke, funny shaped ball bobbling around lose and he just flushed it. I've never seen one like it in our game from over 40 years of watching it.
I do like Eddie's better though. It was deliberate and could be replicated by himself or someone else. I don't think I'll see another like Hawkin's goal.

Yeh - but should a fluke kick off the ground be "goal of the year" ?? There was no skill in that, none. He just threw the boot at it and was probably not even trying to kick the goal. Rare, yes. Best, no.Really? List all the other times and the players that you've seen do it? It was a complete fluke, funny shaped ball bobbling around lose and he just flushed it. Why shouldn't a fluke goal be goal of the year? It doesn't say in the rules it can't be. The award should be awarded to the most unbelievable or amazing goal imo.Yeh - but should a fluke kick off the ground be "goal of the year" ?? There was no skill in that, none. The giants players werent along the line, they were inside it.. How would they be able to determine if it was out? Logic is flawed. There were 2 giants players right there. Betts won goal of the year last year with a fluke.... So yes, Flukes can win.Yeh - but should a fluke kick off the ground be "goal of the year" ?? There was no skill in that, none. He just threw the boot at it and was probably not even trying to kick the goal. Rare, yes. Best, no.
But the goal of the year is the best goal of the year - surely? Why shouldn't a fluke goal be goal of the year? It doesn't say in the rules it can't be. The award should be awarded to the most unbelievable or amazing goal imo.
The Hawkins goal was as miraculous as the betts goal.
It wasn't a fluke. He intended every bit of it. That is what made it amazing.Betts won goal of the year last year with a fluke.... So yes, Flukes can win.
