Incident in the 3rds yesterday between Oak Park vs Roxburgh Park in which the game was called off and police were called.

Not a good look for the EDFL considering club umpires officiated. Had official umpires been supplied this issue may have been avoided.

Apparently the Roxburgh Park player who made the strike was sent off and came back on in a different jumper - Any truth to this? I hope he is made accountable for his actions, no place for this in our game.

If that is true..both player and club need to be heavily sanctioned

Not a good look and the kid was only 16. Absolute disgrace.

This type of incident should never happen with or without umpires. If it’s true the player returned wearing another number then that’s on the club and they should be held accountable as well as the player obviously. Interested to see how Kyte handles this one as it’s already gained media attention by the looks.

No truth in the rumour the player returned to the ground in another jumper. From what I've heard the club are horrified by the situation and are investigating. Not something the club stands for and has worked VERY hard on culture

Unfortunately mate it only takes 1 or 2 to wreck all the hard work of others. Possibly 3rds not a good decision for some clubs if these types of things occur.

It was only a matter of time before a club umpired game was called off and it won’t be the last this year.
It’s a disgrace that any game should be called off. Regardless of club umpire or not. Why should players act any differently to club umpires then normal umpires. Club umpires still have all the same rights as league umpires. They can report and send players off.

I agree Horse. Hower with all due respect to all clubs when you get clubs with 3 and 4 senior teams it is difficult to maintain acceptable standards of behaviour. Generally the 3rd and 4th teams are out of sight out of mind with minimum, if any, strong supervision and when push comes to shove who is going to enforce standards. I’ve witnessed more words than action in my time.

I agree horse but l am mortified that not having official umpires should matter. this boy of 16 obviously was not picked in 18-5s but plays in thirds because he wants to play. His parents would be mortified to think he was not allowed to enjoy the experience but became the subject of thuggery and violence. Why? because some hero does not want to follow the rules we all are subject to and has zero respect for the game or his club or the opposition. It should not matter who umpires but if it does then cancel all games without proper edfl umpires. In our game on weekend the same umpire did 18-5s reserves and was then following up with a twighlight seniors game at another venue. he was then backing up on sunday juniors. Lets see how long a sensible response arrives from EDFL about the called off game and also what stance RP take. Kids wont want to play if they are subject to willing violence. Without these kids you wont have teams to play.

it is irresponsible for the EDFL not to provide umpires for a sanctioned game of football. It’s that simple, no arguments, clubs and individuals should not be placed in such a situation.

So would it be any different if there was umpires. The bloke is a gutless thug and coward. The fact there was club umpires wouldn’t have contributed to this. Reading the article there was some verbal then the kid got king hit. The bloke should never play footy again. EDFL are not to blame for this incident. If anyone things they are just as bad as the bloke who hit the kid.

You can't supply what you don't have, so the supplying of umpires is not irresponsible.

What is irresponsible, is the league not having any recruiting policy, not foreseeing the drop off in umpires due to no footy last year, and then the final nail in the coffin, asking the umps to take a pay cut.

the incident is the incident, and may have happened with sanctioned umpires. the Incident is serious and needs to be handled now, but the fact remains sanctioned umpires need to be provided otherwise it’s a kick in the park with a group of blokes. Are we serious or we not?

thats called the root cause. Have umpires officiate or don‘t move forward with the game. Of course it’s the EDFL fault and should be held responsible for not providing umpires.

I think Roxy would be shattered by the weekends events. I know they have worked very hard over the years to clear out the trouble makers and improve their image, especially under the guidance of their current coach. This thug/coward has only tarnished that hard work and unfortunately put them under the spotlight again. I'm quite certain they will take the appropriate action.

You just hope the club has done there due diligence on players coming into the 3rds and not just allowed anyone to play to fill numbers. I’m of the opinion the club must still hold some accountability as often these teams “can be” unsupervised and purely just to get more numbers in. However you need to be mindful of the players especially clubs with previous history. Why hit a young 16 year old. One of the reasons certain clubs started this competition was to keep the younger kids in the game and not lose them. Hopefully it now hasn’t become a Division for thugs filling in as there is more teans in 3rds thesedays.

Very sad to hear this story tbh. I know UptheRox won’t be happy either as is a decent person in it for the right reasons. So this is not directed at UTR.

Yeah no offence taken Turbo. I can assure you that we have kids in our Thirds as well given we have no 18s so they are playing seniors, either in the ones, ressies or Thirds.... and for that reason I know the club won't condone it because if it was one of our kids on the other end of it we'd be pissed. You never know what goes through someone's head to do this. He might never have been suspended in his life and never been a thug but something else might have triggered it... truth is you just don't know. All the club can do is deal with it from here and take the right action which I'm sure they will. Not sure if having umps might have stopped this or not.... and it's not really the issue. Issue is that something crap happened that the club don't condone and it will be dealt with

Plays Supers at diamond valley on sundays
That’s why he is out of EK I believe. Told to not play supers on the weekend however choose to. You would think that would have been worked out prior to his arrival so bit strange. Oh well I guess it eases a bit of pressure on the playing group and coaching group regarding points.

Maybe Bash can chase up and clarify for us, as just what I heard.

There was king hit a week before also in the edfl and the edfl done nothing. About it because apparently there was no footage , and witnesses don’t count , and the kid that got hit didn’t end up in hospital because he was lucky he nose was strong enough to take a flush elbow at full pace without seeing the player coming towards him , Ian kyte showing great leadership
