Technically not determined yet. But given their scoreline against Avondale last round, and the fact they play EDS away, I think Glenroy will be hard pressed to win any of those matches, much less 2.

Going off their first fixtures they will need to have a 157 point turn around against EK, 10 points against Douttas (now away) and 92 against keilor

Can’t see them winning any games lol….let alone 2

Why would they want to stay up. Numerous 100 point beltings this year clearly not up to premier footy, time to go down and regroup

EDFL hitting the news again. Very poor behaviour but once again the suspensions are to low in very respect.

Abers player gets only 1 week for umpire contact

Coburg districts trainer 2 weeks for making contact with opposition player. FFS that’s surely not on.

EDFL: Avondale Heights assistant coach Robert Forsythe banned for 10 matches

A Melbourne competition’s crackdown on umpire abuse has continued after it handed down its biggest ban of the season to a junior coach.

A local footy competition in Melbourne is continuing to crackdown on umpire abuse after it handed down its biggest ban of the season.
The Essendon District Football League tribunal handed Avondale Heights under 16 boys assistant coach Robert Forsythe a 10-game suspension on Tuesday night.
Forsythe was banned on two different charges including an eight-game suspension for “behaving in an abusive, insulting, threatening or
obscene manner towards or in relation to an umpire”.
While he was suspended for a further two games for “using abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language towards or in relation to an umpire”.
The suspension saw Forsythe become the third junior coach to be banned for umpire abuse this season.
In previous cases, the other two coaches were handed six-week suspensions.
One senior coach has been banned for two weeks for umpire abuse.
Meanwhile two Aberfeldie under 18.5 women’s players were banned for incidents involving an umpire.
One was suspended for three matches for ““using abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language towards or in relation to an umpire” while her teammate was given a one-match ban for “intentionally, recklessly or negligently” making contact with an umpire.
A search of the EDFL’s tribunal records, available online, found that 19 people — players, officials or volunteers — have been banned for incidents involving umpires.
A Hadfield under 16 was given the longest ban of any player this season when they were handed an eight-week suspension for making contact with an umpire.
Other incidents have involved
In other cases to face the tribunal earlier this week, Adrian Sebastiano — a trainer for one of Coburg Districts’ under 16s boys sides — was suspended for two weeks for pushing an opposition player.

Have you ever sat on a tribunal. All cases are judged on merit.

Have you?

Surely if guilty they get more. What is a trainer doing having contact with opposing player. Can start big trouble that type of behaviour.

Understand umpire contact can accidental but it’s not saying it was.

Who wants to umpire and then waste there time attending a tribunal for those verdicts.

I have sat on tribunal panels. Also have chaired several.

Umpire abuse. Clubs, coaches, players, club official's and supporters should be aware by now that umpire abuse in any form will detract people from wanting to umpire at any level. If the shortage of umpires becomes worse then clubs will need to supply umpires and that as seen this season is usually a worse outcome than having official umpires. The EDFL and other leagues should be looking at suspending or cancelling coach's accreditations, deducting game points for abuse from club officials, runners, assistant coaches etc. and longer penalties for players. The best method to control this is prevention, so its up to club land to take control and educate.

Well said. Umpires will leave and umpire in other leagues.

The trainer charge also has (Major) in the wording. How can something major be two weeks?

Just don’t understand these things let alone how a trainer thinks it’s ok to touch an
Opposition player. I’m amazed it didn’t break out into an all in spectator brawl. Was he from the A or B side??

Agree - you make some good points - But the other side of the coin is also that just simply some people should not be umpiring !! Some bring the game in disrepute and are too influenced by the players on the field - especially in lower grades - they don't know when to blow the whistle and the older umpires just stay around the Centre square and if the play gets away from them - they just pay a free kick to catch up - its quite comical really and happens often.
I am not sure how many umpires turn up to training sessions BUT that would be the good starting point - Clear messaging ! Clear decision making and pass that onto the clubs.
This is so easy resolved - The first sign of any verbal - the umpires stop the game and make it clear to both coaches that this will not be tolerated . If it continues - then just walk off and let the EDFL deal with the clubs. I think this will send a strong message and eliminate this type of umpire abuse. But, the other thing is that most umpires brush this behavior off and play on - otherwise it would be pretty busy tribunal every week !

Easy, make those that abuse do an umpire course. They then have to umpire 10 games, the first four to be done before they can then play/coach etc again. If a club spectator / parent abused then the penalty would go to the club for a committee member to do the penalty. Any subsequent offence the penalty would be doubled.

Went and watched Abbers Vs Pacco Saturday, wow what a game! If that's the standard of finals footy we will hopefully see nobody will be disappointed. Game could have gone either way. Stredwick at Fullback was unbelievable, he's surely the best fullback in the comp? Marcon showed his experience in the middle really stood up in the big moments.
