How about we all actually work on facts and not post stuff that is completely inaccurate
Gourdis did not whack anyone behind play on Saturday.
He was reported for making contact with an umpire (Not pushing or man handling an umpire)
He was given 4 weeks on Tuesday night at EDFL Tribunal hearing
It was appealed and an independent panel of 3 who do not sit on the current tribunal panel, which actually included and ex AFL umpire heard the hearing last night and decided to reduce the penalty to 2 weeks and two suspended.
Above are the facts and if anyone tries to post otherwise, they simply are not posting facts.
Everyone is entitled to their thoughts on the penalty, but don't post stuff that is inaccurate / crap as does nothing for this site, which at times can be very interesting reading, but at times rubbish when people post stuff that is simply not true or don't actually know the facts of situations.
Fair enough, from what you say it seems I may have been wrong to assume and jump in too quickly. From reports it didn’t sound good at all. Abalancedview what was the contact with the umpire that led to the report? Obviously it wasn’t accidental, or Gourdis wouldn’t have been found guilty. If, as you say he didn’t push the umpire, did he grab the umpire, shake him, touch him, or bump him? It would be interesting to know. Tribunal results still not up on EDFL website.

Seeing as you know the facts, what contact did he make with the umpire.

Just been reading the dramas with the EDFL Tribunal and heres one for you guys which is factly 100% correct just to highlight the inconsistencies at the EDFL Tribunal.
There is a Player in a division in this league that is currently sitting on 15 weeks suspension, in round 1 he was reported for abusive and threatening language towards an umpire. Declined the 2 weeks offered and went to the tribunal. He was found guilty however the EDFL noted that if he was suspended then he would have his playing licence taken. So they found him not guilty and verbally gave him a reprimand provided his club imposed a 3 week internal suspension.
During the season he was reported for striking a player who was concussed and the umpire withdrew the report after the game and would not answer any questions from the opposing team manager after the game, got straight in his car and left.
Last week the same player was reported for striking and sending his victim from the ground with concussion. He was offered the 2 weeks and declined. Fronted the tribunal and was cleared. This guy is likely to play finals and end up causing more damage in a higher intensity game, maybe even to a younger player coming through, I just hope its not your son or mine. Any wonder Rowan Sayers has a hard time of keeping umpires when they are not supported.
Absolute disgrace. The player his club and the umpire that withdrew the report should hang their heads in shame. The EDFL is obviously aware of the issue and they are condoning his actions.

Explain why we should all except your version of the incident as being 100% fact.

MYOB, I think I have shared enough on this. Contact is contact and I would think that the final penalty handed down by the appeal board would suggest the contact was not deemed as extreme, but contact was made and players should not make contact with umpires in anyway shape or form, so suspension was absolutely warranted. We have two different views on penalty by EDFL Tribunal and by the appeals panel, so I am sure we will all also have differing views. In the end I would think we all would agree that contact should not occur under any circumstance with umpires for any reason.

Route 59 - Simple answer is because it is accurate and you are welcome to do your own homework and suggest I am wrong, but if you do go and do your own homework on this, you will find you will only come back and confirm what I have posted as being completely correct. Enjoy the footy on the weekend.

Suspended sentences are a joke. They mean nothing. 2 weeks for umpire contact is a joke. Should be minimum 4 weeks regardless of how much contact there was. It sets a bad example and we loose good young umpires

An ex AFL player king hit someone behind play & then assaulted an umpire, if that was even close to being true every media outlet in the country would have ran the story as soon as they got wind of it. Queen should be embarrassed for making such ridiculous accusations.
He was reported and found guilty of making contact with an umpire. The version stated by abalancedview is accurate you can choose to ACCEPT that version or not but I’d say both tribunal findings align with that more so than the tripe mentioned before

Stax, Contact is contact, the degree of contact and reason for the contact is what determines the suspension. Did the umpire feel intimidated, threatened etc or just surprised by the contact made. In the end Gourdis should not have made contact for any reason and has received a greater penalty than we have seen in the AFL generally this year for similar cases, so I applaud the EDFL and Appeals board.

The EDFL tribunal made the right call. The appeals tribunal listen to the Keilor sob story about missing finals never been reported all that bullshit so the have him 2 suspended. Suspended sentences are a joke. It doesn’t serve a purpose. If he missed all the finals and maybe a GF he will learn a lesson not to touch an umpire.
Having been in this comp along time it would have been treatening at the time for him to be reported. Umpires don’t report that if it was a friendly tap.

This player was suspended for the same thing in 2012

Give me a break a greater penalty Greg Williams got 9 weeks for pushing an umpire . Gourdis pushed the umpire FACT end of story should have got more weeks. Cachia got more weeks for abusive language FACT. The EDFL tribunal is a joke. Keilor once again get away with a slap on the wrist.

It was actually in 2011 and he recieved a five week suspension for manhandling an umpire. Now in 2018 he receives a two week penalty for the same charge. When are the umpires going to be properly protected?
Do the umpires need to press assault charges on anyone who touches them? This player should never be able to take the field again due to his history. I hope the umpires who officiate in his last game get more protection as they will probably need it.

If your version is so correct how about upload the video as it was taped, surely Keilor paid the big bucks to take evidence to the tribunal? I stand by, that is what I saw the ball had been moved to wing and was called back for and incident.. according to you was nothing not sure why an umpire would call the ball that far back if it wasn’t something significant, he cracked it and shoved the umpire and was red carded off. I’m not here to put Keilor or the player under the bus someone asked that is what I saw and my take of it all. And agree entirely with many others that his penalty is very light compared to other incidences such as verbal abuse.

I reckon he could have got life and people would still complain Keilor got off lightly

Mighty effort from EDS, they were gone mid way through the season.
And to topple Greenvale in the last round to guarantee a play in A grade next year showed a lot of character.
Now comes the job of signing all there players for next year, and trying to get back some of the home growns they’ve lost.
Has there been any word of a coach for next year?

I was at the APW v Tulla game and left at half time to go watch Greenvale v EDS seeing what the score was at half time. Saw great commitment from EDS they also blooded two of their u17's in that game. Great effort from all the players, they were not intimidated and lead all day. Greenvale got back within 4 points early and then again near the end of the last quarter. A couple of dubious for Greenvale and no calls for EDS helped that. Besides those few calls from what I saw I think the umpires controlled the game really well and did a great job.

I am not sure where this EDS side has been all season but they were full of running, willing to tackle. The excitement they showed at the end gives them something to build on next year. If they can attract some of the young boys back, those aged 20 to 24 and some other taller and bigger bodies then they will do well. One of my criticism's is that the club is that they didn't have a ruck of any note. Their bloke yesterday did an amazing job as did the backup.

I look forward to see what they can come up with next year.

Yeah but they told u 1st v 2nd Saturday windy hill & 3rd v 4th Sunday @ windy hill.
Not rocket science to work out what the finals will be.

Did I get that info via email, text or a phone call.
Just saying as of 7:00 pm last night no fixtures were up. All other leagues I take an interest in were up last night by 6:00pm.
