There may be a handful of clubs in VAFA who do pay players but i know quite a few people involved at some of the top clubs and they do not need to pay there players. Every chance that player on $35k a year was offered a job opportunity that made the money irrelevant.
No doubt he was offered a job in excess of $60k a year - fact
It is not cash but that was the reason he went to play there

The top VAFA clubs don't pay players, and being intimately involved I know this first hand.

For the top VAFA clubs, we simply need to ask the potential player what he wants to do with his career outside of footy, and then look to set him up with the opportunities so that he can do that. Other leagues may offer someone $35k a year to play footy, but if a top Ammo club can give him a 70k+ a year job in an industry that he wants to work in and create the right connections, this is the reason that the top end of the VAFA gets such high end talent. The top clubs dont pay players in the Ammo's, but they have the right networks to make things happen. It's all about the powerful networks that these clubs foster and nurture (especially the ones with private school ties like Xavs etc).

It's a very compelling story for an ammo club to tell a well paid local footballer that his time in the game is finite, and he should be looking at what he does when he can't play anymore and what he wants to do. It's amazing how much that scenario resonates with the footballer, and why players who were offered a lot of coin, still end up playing in the VAFA. The issue that the VAFA has is once these players are in and set-up, they can then drift back out to local leagues for coin, knowing that they are already set up career-wise. VAFA lose a few top players this way, but keep the top line players coming in.
And that has been happening for decades , surburban clubs need to use this method as well ( at several EDFL this is already happening )

Keilor close to signing a big name player from an opposition club in deep trouble. Last year they nabbed Galea from AH and now close to signing arguably the best midfielder in our comp. Well he has best credentials!

I might have been wrong on the Rose to Keilor mail, but this one is gathering wind..

Does this players name rhyme with Crock McBean ?

Avondale taking a big risk with Mario Banderra as the guy is a seriously loose cannon. Can't see him being happy as an assistant coach either. Horwood needs to manage this very closely.

You are partly right Turbo in that Keilor are in talks with a big name from one of the more powerful clubs . He's a left foot back/mid with a connection to Galea . And Rose for that matter. 50/50 call as it sits .

It happens every year, the club should appoint someone who isn't affiliated with any particular club. I'm sure there are plenty of coaches out there happy to do a short term gig as they don't have the time to commit to a full season of coaching.

Thoughts only, but I guess it's the real world we live in...

Hey Bully, I wasn't referring to GVs Brewer so if they land him as well, they will be short priced favourites to win the flag, IF they don't get caught for salary cap breaches. With these 2 will be well over 250k and making a mockery of the league rules surely

Well , ran into ol' mate at the Pub at Lunchtime.

Fort Caruso to the Blues, after choosing GVale for the $$$'s last year he's realised that is not the spot for him, especially now with the New coach @ GV he wants out, he will be very well compensated at the Blues but not as much as he was paid this season...
Few at GVale "NOT HAPPY JAN", expect a fiery encounter when they meet each other - On and Off the field with Keilor Heir achy very chuffed with themselves getting one over the Jets

2 ton Mick is stirring up a lot of anger pinching opposition clubs best players - But he's playing within the rules so "nothing to see here"

Turbo - take it from your ol' mate - Rose signed at AH last week for 2 years

I know who you are referring to and I'm saying what's more likely . Keilor are not keeping all their players ie Putt , Linton, Bathie , noye and possibly others so they are well within their means to recruit . Also tell your mate "bang" he's that far off the mark its not worth a reply.
