It doesn't require any of them. It was fine without them.. However other metro and country leagues could not attract ex AFL players or high profile players because they all wanted to play in the EDFL. So Football Vic went all communist and have tried to weaken the strong to help the weak..

Ah yes, the revolution is coming, again, sorry it's already in play... The bourgeois Vs the Aristocrats (EDFL)

Seriously, we should just fall into line, but we won't because the aristocratic clubs hold a too much sway over the EDFL. That's my take

Post of the year..

To add to it the EDFL will run its own women's league next year, would have the strongest junior competition in metro footy, strongest umpiring group and if they dont have the most players drafted onto AFL lists come from the EDFL it would be very close.

Now if they could just force the clubs to improve the facilities and playing surfaces...

Great reply/post. Yes it's a top league and does seem to attract a lot of quality players out of AFL/VFL. Agree money is a telling factor but also the need to play closer to home especially people with young families.

My only statement would be, now that we have a strong league "some" clubs (in all divisions) need to improve off field or get rid of them.

100% agree on grounds & facilities.

Yes it needs to be a priority and I think having the womens comp should drive a set of standards for change rooms to be considered acceptable.

Does anyone know what's going at West Coburg?

Have heard a few players may be on the move to other clubs and that a couple may also hang the boots up. Would make it difficult to see them improving if they lose a few of the current list!
West Coburg have recruited 3 or 4 very good players , there does appear to be a few players leaving but this is not a bad thing. Recruitment of players must first include character and this is what Digby and co have been focusing on

Will the new recruits cover their losses ? Huge outs I've heard.

WC are not a team that has ever relied on 1 or 2 gun players, they work as a unit and are well drilled and almost impossible to beat on there home deck.j Even when they had Haucher, they had grunt players like Ozzie Kheir, Zousonis, Mo Kak who were quality players in there own right.. WC always have a good group of young underrated kids coming through there junior system as well.

Read an article in the HS the other day. Was pretty much a media release from Larkin putting to bed the rumours that Abers are having issues paying players.
The interesting part was that he didn't deny they owe large amounts of money but insisted it would all be paid as it always is.
Does that mean Abers are paying players for previous seasons with money collected the season after ? Dangerous way to do things and it's no wonder players are looking elsewhere, as it's all good being on $1500 a game, but that's only if you're guaranteed to actually receive it.
Will be interesting to see how they line up next season.

Who gets paid first, the players who have left or the players who have stayed.

Geez I'm Hungover but will fight through and be one of the 1st at the Club @ 5.30 for a couple of sneaky Pots & put out some bowls of Chips/Peanuts before the 6.30pm official start!!!

Abers - The ol' "Nothing to see here"...

Players who committed to stay 2017 get paid 1st - there is no possible logical reason to pay the rats deserting before looking after the players staying

Think they lost an experienced inside mid to Hillside as well..[/QUOTE

May have lost a player with ability but very little character and regardless what the ability may be of the individual poor character will always cost the club because they have no connection to club or team

Would you go to work each week without being paid Bang? Contracts are a 2 way street. Club says yeah fella we will give you 1K a game means nothing if you dont get it. I dont blame players leaving if clubs are poorly managed.

Turbs, have you heard whether the word on the street is true about one of EDS favourite sons returning after 2 years in the efl? His brother played a significant part in the Bulldogs afl grand final. One of the best defenders in edfl, pound for pound imo. Would be great pickup if true.

Yeah it was reported that Jono Morris is on his way back to Douttas. Good get for them to get him back as he is a heart and soul type of player

Greenvale seem to have a few on the way out with Shinners also leaving to play with Norwood in the Eastern league. Lower & Vasilevski also moving on and Matty Smith retiring leaves a bit of hole that the Jets will need to plug with some quality recruits

Last years other finalists seem quiet on the recruiting front.

Abers have obviously lost Patak and Lynch so far. They have great depth though and expect them to try and cover their losses from within

Keilor reported to have lost Browne to Mansfield? Big loss if true

Paco lose Warren and gain Hardingham.

Could we see a changing of the top 4 this year with the Mores & Douttas topping up their lists? Avondale gaining Cam Wood is a boost, can they get a couple more in to make a charge up the ladder. Not much out of Marby or West Coburg, other than the few losses West Coburg have reported to have. Craigieburn have rectified their situation with a maintaining their list bar the Clokes, no news yet on Recruits

West Coburg have definitely gained several very good players and will be able to cover the loses of the players moving on
There are more new players / recruits to come for West

Sour grapes?Im a listener and he is good at radio being.very informative across many sports.A blokes lost his job and you think its good?I think you're a below average human and very jelous.
Barfly - Do you think Mick gave a f*ck about Avo when he poached their best 3 players on the back of coaching the inter league side? Do you think he gives a f*ck about other teams when he poaches their players? So why would anyone give a f*ck about Mick when he get's the a*se from his job?
Micks been the average human being through his own actions
