Anyone at the Abers v Keilor game that can give a match report?
Great game from start to end. Lot of 1on1s all over the ground. Potter and mcguane both acknowledged not great meaning with so many good players out.
Game was always close, goal or two either way. Mclean was great all day, got bit frustrated with their structure not being followed.
Good result for keilor turning their for
m around, had another U/16 going around who has been impressive.
Potter was at the umpires at half time as they walked off the ground, both parties weren't happy.

I'm interested in this post. I am not one to pot umpires as clearly understand it's a tough job and haven't really had time to compare the standard against say the GFL or EFL, but I've also noticed some very strange decisions in games and the controlling umpire can sometimes be to far away. It's great the females umpires are coming through and they might be the best of the lot.
But my question is with the standard of players improving every year I'm not sure the umpiring has gone to the next level. I know Rohan is doing his best and is clearly the best person for the role so what is it? --Do we need to video all games to put some pressure on them as well as it can be used for reviews and feedback.
-Is it the condition of some grounds in the middle of winter?
-Is it the ranting and words from the coaching bench maybe? Hence the previous post plus what I have seen & heard.
-Are they favourable/biased to some known players/clubs, hence why I think the females are quite good.

I haven't really seen much abuse from the crowds however I do usually stand with the main supporters.

I don't wish to sound negative but I would like to see our league improve overall. By that I mean players, umpires, supporters, grounds, facilities etc, as its a top league.

Umpired a bit of Senior footy in the country, and 1 of the greatest things that happened to our group was the appointment of Mathew James (Umpired a couple of AFL GF'S) as Umpires Coach. He bought professionalism and a new look on things. We actually found it harder initially to recruit, because of the higher expectations, but all Senior games started getting videotaped, with feedback given in Coaching sessions to all Umpires, not just Field, but Boundary and Goal as well. There were new fitness expectations put on the group, even the Goal Umpires dramatically increased their fitness. The increased fitness bought vastly superior decision making skills. We only had 65 umpires across all disciplines, including first year umpires, I'm told that the EDFL is over 500? We umpired a 3 field umpire system, and I believe the standard of football was the real winner. Sure, we still copped plenty from the crowds, but the change of mentality certainly improved the group. In my humble opinion, I feel that consistency is the issue with the current crop of EDFL umpires. I've watched about 50 games in Premier this year, and honestly feel that each has been called completely different to each other, sometimes with the "rules" seemingly changing after half time. I certainly do not condone umpire abuse, as it does cost us umpires, and really serves no purpose (I actually revelled in it, LOL), but sometimes I can see why the Players, Coaches and Supporters get so frustrated. Consistency is the key.

Being a supporter of WC, I can tell you that I strongly agree with this point. Game after game we would receive the rough end of the stick.

The major issue with the umpiring in EDFL is that since Rowan Sawers took on the role and increased the professionalism within the umpiring group it has been seen as a development pathway straight to the VFL. EDFL has lost 15+ umpires to VFL ranks over the past 3 seasons which is great that it is developing umpires to take the next step, but each year it loses a good chunk of its best kids to the VFL and most dont return once they finish umpiring at the higher level. So becomes a victim of its own success.

Your argument would apply to any team with a big forward or a key forward let a alone 2. If Galea goes down then McGuane would get the best defender if Reimers goes down and so on.

Word is that they might be leaving craigieburn. Big shoes to fill especially when you've based your whole game plan for two seasons to bomb it long because you have two giants. Pretty hard to recruit similar players.

there defence has done well but will struggle coming up. There midfield is slow. Heenan young courouzou davies all a bit one paced.

There forwards are good but three might be out the door!

Page the ruckman is a gun.

Wait until they win it first, until then leave Craigieburn chat on the Div 1 page.

A touch of spice has definitely been added to the upcoming Premier Division finals series now that Coach Potter's inner thoughts re Mighty Mick's use by date has become public knowledge! Loose lips can sink ships!

very true puffpuff, Tulla or oak park can can win it on their day.

Hey old mate, the other 2 teams are only making up the numbers. It's over red rover!! Really was over before the season begun, hence why some other clubs laid off heavy recruiting or recruiting into the season.

I'm feed up with local councils. Some of the grounds (and surrounds) in this comp need some work. Problem is I could fix them in a couple of hours but the councils do nothing. How does a ditch (about 1m in diameter) with water sitting it be allowed to just sit about 20mts out from the goal square for weeks & weeks. Surely dig a bit out and put a few layers of instant turf there to get through the season..

Step up councils FFS.

100% agree. You should never be banned, love your passion. I think the issue is the traffic on the grounds, this is hard to change. Maybe the hierarchy need to communicate to all inc council on state of grounds with ratings given from all parties, the grounds have been consistently disappointing. This comp playing up in the GVFL or OMVFL or some of the Amateur grounds would be so much better, some grounds are small, weirdly shaped and lack atmosphere, takes the shine off a great competition.

Hey Stax or Star, any possibility of Strathmore spending some money on adding some facilities to the ground at Strathnaver. Both teams having to share the open baseball rooms would have to be one of the worse things I've seen, even if it's junior footy. However the surface is good. Lots of junior numbers at Strathmore so will they spend the money or save it for Firrito and Grima next season? Couple of handy recruits.. Haha

Have to take that up with the council Turbo. Strathmore have no jurisdiction in that area. Council control purse strings and are the ones who authorise any construction work on rate payer owned premises.

Firrito and Grima would be a couple of handy recruits. More likely to go to Pacco however, as they seem to have most of the money. Mores are one of the less well off clubs in Premier, doubt if they could afford them.

The two grounds left of the car park near Boeing reserve are going to be used for the Chris Lane little league ground. Master plan on the council website. I also think that the pavilion on the main oval is getting an upgrade as part of the funding. Not to mention just installed new light towers

see on the EDFL website Leigh Burke from Keilor got 36 weeks suspension
Isn't 17 weeks life, why isn't he just de-registered? I guess all the talk on here about the incident was worth it because that is one hell of a suspension.
