Douttas chasing some more big named players from another league. However having major issues with keeping under 50points I hear. Guessing they will have issues as last year recruited heavy to go up and these players incur high points.
Once again the points allocated to leagues with promotion/relegation will find it a lot harder as you need to recruit to go up and then your stuck with high points and can't recruit to many..

Any names to go with

Any names to go with

Best I not disclose names at this point but all very good players. Looks like they are spending up again if they land some of these players. Also hear they are going hard for Paul Chapman and might be willing to offer huge coin to get him across as a few other clubs from various leagues also in the running.

Well I'm sure the coaches down there at eds know what they are doing!!

First time poster. Long time reader.
I follow Keilor when I am in Melbourne. I hear not many contacts have been offered at the club but I work with a few fellow supporters.
Is there something happening down at keilor that people are not telling us about?
I have heard nearly every player from the current season has not been spoken to and there for hardly any players have signed.
We have came up with a list of players that we suggest may not be there as a result of lack of communication from the club. Only players that I have heard are Joyce , galea, tanner , cartelli. Last 3 from a rival club.

I am not 100% on some of the spelling. And again I am not in the heart of the club but myself and other supporters have heard heavy support about the following players may be linked to other clubs. And or leaving

Alexander ( Bendigo ) Crawford ( Bendigo ) Peck ( vfl ) Linton ( home ) isibister ( home ) putt ( wrfl ) kovacs ( douttas ) Prismil ( home ) Kennedy ( Tulla ) Schroder ( retired ) Davidson ( Vfl ) wallin ( vfl ) Ogden ( vfl ) Brown ( vfl or afl ) Bourke ( country ) bathie (country) tanti ( country )

Surely there is something to this ? Anyone else have why information ?

Was graham on a 3 year contract at abbers ?
Off to perth now i see.

He was on a three year contract however he is off to Perth and as we know local contracts don't stack up these days.

An offer he could not refuse and will hopefully allow him to settle into a mature age apprenticeship which is what he wants.

After his finals series, State League clubs were always going to come knocking and you have to support if going to higher level.

No dramas from our end!

Does Abers losing Graham and Greenvale adding Caruso x 2 bridge the gap for 2016?

I'm guessing Abers will find another good Ruckman as plenty of time yet. Won't help them with points either I'm guessing.
Big news article at the time when he signed, saying 3 years. Quick change of mind but at least he did it early so it gives them time to cover him....

For a bloke that doesn't much you certainly seem to know a lot

Fletcher and jamar??? Certainly haven't heard that. Would be big additions.

If eds had Vespremi on their Facebook page you'd think the types of Fletcher & Jamar would appear instantly once pen was put to paper. Perhaps they are on the "wish list" of players that most clubs have this time of year.

yes other clubs are talking to Fletcher and Jamar, so not signed at EDS.

When does preseason start for the clubs?

Interesting season 2016 with the point system coming in, some clubs will be affected in a big way to be under the points.

I would like to ask the readers of big footy on their thoughts on the points system. I'm not sure clubs fully understand it and the EDFL haven't done enough research or have people qualified to make a stand.
I suggest clubs force the EDFL to reject the proposal from AFL vic for 2016 and take a closer look at would it could do to our league.
The home junior player being worth 1 point seems fair enough at first thought, but it will favour the the top 4 "long term" premier clubs being Abers, GV, Strathmore & Keilor as they have been stockpiling junior talent as well as have a high number of players at other competitions which they "could" persuade back at 1 point.
So how do we think the other current premier clubs can compete now and in following years. It's been a fact over past seasons other clubs need to recruit to be able to challenge. Avondale recruited in recent years, Pascoe Vale recruited last year and ended up 3rd after the home & away season, but a few injuries seen there depth unable to match the top 4 clubs. Marby Parks successful years were on the back of quality recruits bought in to the club. How many of these players were home grown? Not many.. But this success bought supporters in, community buy in, sponsors, and they basically rebuilt there junior program after kids in the area preferred to go to a neighbour club in Abers.
I, like most people, want to see an even competition, however if every club in premier starts off from scratch only 4 clubs will have a realistic chance of winning the race (premiership) so nothing will change other than the gap widening between the top 4 and the rest..

PS: a recent poster suggested Fletcher & Jamar are being chased by some clubs. Well fact is only certain clubs with a high number of home growns in there best 22 can even consider chasing them, due to there points, so the top 4 clubs only get stronger.

STAND UP and FIGHT or most clubs (other than the top 4) will be swimming against the tide every season..

Goodness me....for starters the EDFL cannot reject the proposal from AFL Victoria. The points system is coming in, all leagues have until October 31 to notify their clubs of their points allocation for 2016 as per the guidelines.

The majority of leagues have made their decision already, but EDFL have stalled, most likely due to the reality that the points system is going to screw some clubs to the max. Yet these same clubs which in 7 days time will officially be screwed are still out their recruiting players, offering absurd amounts of money to them and banking on the EDFL having 60 points per club when, as it stands, the AFL Victoria guidelines again clearly state that the maximum points any team is allowed is 50. So what we're likely going to have is one giant fire sale where clubs who've overcommitted have to let a few go, and I reckon we will see clearances flying around left right and centre about 3 or 4 weeks into the season when that star ex-VFL recruit is stuck in the Reserves because they can't fit him into the team and he wants out.

Something had to be done about the out of control match payments at local level. The points system, and the subsequent salary declarations to be implemented in 2017 will slow things down. The EDFL is lucky that most clubs in the Premier comp can spend $400,000-$600,000 a year on their football department which has resulted in a fairly even competition. But other leagues are not so lucky, and the ramifications of the EDFL led salary inflation is being felt outside of the EDFL. There's clubs on their knees, proud clubs, that just can't afford to keep up with the escalating costs of running a footy club. And again referring to the AFL Vic numbers, 83% of clubs who responded to their survey said something needed to be done about managing the rising match payments.

Instead of the wealthiest winning the flag (as was the case this year in virtually all metro competitions), we may start seeing clubs who work hard to develop juniors, clubs who have good cultures and clubs who retain players for a period of time have success. Clubs will still be able to recruit, but just not as many players. Clubs will have to be more astute. They'll need to be more responsible. They'll need to do more homework. They'll need their recruits to stay for more than a season. None of those are bad things.

Footyman, appreciate your reply. Agree you have made a lot of valid points but I don't think clubs have had enough time to digest this and fully understand the "possible" ramifications in 3-5 years time. Yes understand clubs can be allocated more points in extreme cases, but isn't 50 the max. So it's an imbalance.
NOW I must point out Its not my intention to criticise any club, but my views are the top 4 clubs have a head start. Why?
In 5 years Abers, Keilor or Strathmore could have literally 8 to 10 players from AFL or VFL at 1 point and to compete with them another club who may have 1 or two, if any at best in their team has to recruit 7 blokes at 5 points for a total of 35 points out of a possible 50 to compete, where Abers or Strathmore for example will only be using 8 points of a possible 50.

You can't field 16 blokes out of 15 points and compete.

Im hearing a number of clubs are not happy (even some top 4 clubs) and legal advice has been sought on edfl constitution, as some clubs are demanding a vote . If they don't get one, the numbers have been sort to call an extraordinary AGM and call a spill of the edfl board with a 75% vote the threshold . This is being explored by a number of clubs..
