Chris Smith Fitzroy 16
Leigh Matthews Hawthorn 16

Chris Smith led at the half way mark in 1980, was flying, potentially major embarrassment as he was at home in his jarmies at the time.

Was Swan about 3 years back. Got out to an early lead, then got hauled in, was at a Mad Monday.
wasn't he home or something dressed in a superman costume?

i have no issue at all with bringing in "no frills" players from other clubs! Sydney have been doing it for years and make it work out just fine.... I'd Die for the Richmond footy club but i am envious of the culture that Sydney has developed and if we end up with a similar culture to them i'd be over the moon!
look at it this way, in the good old days GR went around signing players from all over the place to add to our playing list, we now call those times "the good old days".

Not an attack on you, but those good old days has seen us remain a basket case for the best part of 30 years because of that GR culture.
But I will admit, Sydney's return rate on re treads is bloody good. Some blokes I never thought would be at a consistent good level just do it, week in, week out. Already going for the bloods next week. Couldn't give a flying about tonight's game.

yer the those GR ways let to great times indeed, and yes they did also sadly drag us down the the depths we reached in the end of that era also.
i just admire the way Sydney manage to get "no frills" players seemingly on the outer at thier clubs and transforming them into great players. topping up thier list each year to fill needs which is i think is what we are now doing also and if it works the same way it'd be fantastic!
