EFC is not in a strong position regarding Saad trade therefore all the chest beating nonsense, the reality is Adam has walked and will be an OOC player in a week or so.
There's nothing much Dodoro or anyone else can do.
He’s nominated his destination and its incumbent of EFC to help him to play out his footy career were he wants to.

If he’s not an Essendon player how are they incumbent or duty bound to do anything that isn’t in their own interests?

In reality no trade is a win/win

Someone always ends up ahead of the other

No one's giving anything away for unders unless it's to benefit themselves in another area

Everyone's aim is to end up on the right side of the 50/50 coin

I'm not sure how significant the Media's story of 'Dodoro being hard to deal with' affects people speaking to him and dealing with Essendon because he's there or not.

If you start rolling over to the media commentary then you may aswell pack your bags and shut the place down.

From what I hear of Dodoro he comes across very well. Seems a people's person

Essendon considering hard to deal with have moved in/out plenty of players over the last few years. Cant be that hard to deal with. Just don't expect to snap anything up under the market value
This is exactly the problem.
In a trade you should be aiming to improve your own positioning as a club.
The outcome for the other party is really irrelevant.
You should be considering Essendon pre trade vs. Essendon post trade - was this a positive outcome for us.
Instead you are comparing either side ‘who won’. I think it’s the wrong way to go about it.

I just think the reality is if your improving your own list then your diminishing the other

A trade only occurs once both sides see it as an improvement. Then whether it was the right call is determined down the track and you live and die by the sword/decision

Dodoro is only looking to improve the Essendon list and for that to happen he has to see trades like everyone else as a positive. I think his outcomes given his hand in the last 6 years has been pretty solid. Not a worry I'd put at the top of the page for us. I think we have greater concerns than a guy who's prepared to dig in and grit for what he perceives as improving the list.

Isn't Hooker also rumoured to be unhappy?
If anything, he'll retire rather than move.
Has always said he wants to be a one club player.
Ideally stays, plays FF for a year and hangs around post-retirement in a coaching role after 2021.
Really like his presence around the club.

I could see Hurley moving/being shopped around.
Has 2-3 years left. Would suit a team where he can play 3rd tall and chase some success.

Dodoro is probably a lovely guy - don't have an issue with that. But apparently Kevin Muscat is a really good company and an exceptional bloke you just don't want him sliding into your legs. And you gave a perfect example of the Win/Lose thinking in your post.

Wowee, the Dodo show just got bigger. Not only do we have two or possibly three Essendon players for the Dodo to over rate, we now have Caldwell from GWS wanting in for the Dodo to under rate!

Gunna be a fun ride folks

Looking forward to it immensely.

Caldwell probably only worth a 3rd rounder.

Saad clearly a top 10 pick.

It seems blatantly obvious the three clubs should sit down and play swapsies.

Carlton split 7 into two mid teens.
One goes to dons for saad. one goes to gws for williams.
Dons on-trade the pick to gws for caldwell.

Maybe there's some later picks involved somewhere there to balance but as a core it's pretty rock solid.

Everyone goes on with their lives.

Fortunately Carlton are the instigators in this and hold the first domino and should split 7 and trade to get Williams. Just so Dodoro can stop asking for it and the other negotiations can actually progress.

Williams will be FA i imagine. Seems silly for the giants to match when they'll get 9.
Jez might be different depending on what Geelong are paying.

Daniher is the key for us
Does he get us 7, 20, One or both of 16 & 17 (these will push out with Jez, Crouch & Williams and possibly Daniher), or those picks into something higher?
depending what we get could determine how deals pan out.

Carlton don’t need to trade for Williams. Which leaves 7 for us

But how?
Each side is at a different stage in their development, has a different salary cap structure, has different needs.
Each asset would have a different value to each team.
Pick 5 is worth less to the Suns than it would to another team.

Gonna be busy

Confirmed:
Daniher nominated Brisbane
Saad nominated Carlton
Fantasia nominated Port
Caldwell nominated Essendon

Rumoured
Interest: Dunkley, Wright, Paton
Leaving: Merrett, Smith, Guelfi
Unhappy: Hurley
If we can do these two, then we'd have done very well this off-season. And by that, I mean made the most of a bad situation.

I was talking to ethan about this earlier and the move to GWS makes sense. Would essentially replace Aidan Corr in the Giants back 6. Keefe to be that lockdown KPD with Hurley being afforded some freedom.

I don't mind Hooker at FF.

This may sound silly but we'll need to pay signifiant overs to get Wright. Contracted, assuming a number of clubs would be courting him also. I think he is the most important get structurally for us going into next year. No world beater but gives us a target inside 50 (would have proffered Brown but he's supposedly Melbourne bound).

I think it's a salary dump situation. We're in a position to pay his full wages, Gold Coast would be happy to clear him off the books on the cheap

GWS requests first rounder

Essendon offer future second with this years second coming with Jye

This is how it usually works. For all his detractors to which you and a few numpty Blues supporters have shown, he gets deals done and in Essendon's favor.

Sure, ask the world all you want but he is a very good negotiator. Look at his track record of deals that have gone through

** edit - before you even dare say it, every more educated Essendon supporter will tell you that Dan Richardson over rode Dodo's want for trading Je for 3 + 9 (which Sydney didn't even have 9 but that's another story)**

Everyone has to think it's benefitting their club to get a trade done. Otherwise the trade wouldn't occur

I think history says he's a good negotiator and gets the best deals he can. The biggest mistake he did is overpay for D.Shiel he let emotion take over

Pick 11 for Devon Smith
Pick 9 and a FF for Dylan Shiel and a second (which wound up being the second last pick of the second round)
Pick 25 and 30 for Jake Stringer

Adam Saad was a good trade.
