7 rates him at approximately the same value as Treloar who is on the table for 5. Particularly with Saad out of contract and publicly desperate to escape.

The immediate consensus among commentators was that Saad's value was a late first. 7 is paying overs, but the guy meets one of Carlton's specific needs so after the dick measuring contest is finished nobody is going to be too outraged if it goes down that way.

However. Any supporter would and should be absolutely filthy if the Club does not do everything possible to avoid paying overs.

Long term trade success is more about acquiring and manipulating small gains than it is about big wins. You don't just ditch 5 to 10 first round places because you can't be bothered trying to work around it.

Why can so many people, including yourself not comprehend that pick 7 will end up being a middle of first round selection.

JUH, Daniher, Crouch and Zac Williams possibly takes your pick 7 out to 11.

Zac Williams has no effect to it

Daniher out, Pick 7 in
Bris to pay $750,000 x 5 years, They would be insane! Band 2 or 3.

Saad Out + Future 3rd out, Pick 8 in, Pick 27 more like it.

Fantasia + 43 out , Pick 26 + 52 in, Third round more like it.

Pick 8 out, Picks 16 + 17 in. Would have to be Pick 6 for Bris likely Picks 18 + 19 after FA

What you think and what is likely to happen are completely different.

I suggest you listen to what is being said by reliably informed journalists as they have a better idea than you and they seem to suggest that Essendon are a BIG chance of ending up with 6, 7, 8.

Pick 7 will become early teens after NGA bids so 7 seems right imo

Not if we comprehend that the entire round experiences the same effect.

7 was a mid first rounder to begin with. 0 to 6, 7 to 12, 13 to 18. Stick three extra picks in front of it and it is still a mid first.

In an unadjusted 18 pick first round there are 11 picks after 7. In a 22 pick first round there are 11 picks after 11. Very little has changed.

It will still be the 11th player taken. Accept it and move on

Cunningly turned an offer of 5 and 9 in a good draft into 7 in a draft nobody has a clue about.

Master stroke right there.
9 and 3*

So basically, the club board gambled pick 3 on a tilt at finals (ultimately in a covid year)... if we knew then what we know now, definitely rather have pick 3. But thems the breaks.

In any case, one of the first few things to happen in the free agency period and it was agreed to pretty quickly. No drawn out trade negotiations this year, so I guess the ego is back in its box.

Fantasia to Port for pick 26 or 31

Saad + Port pick for 8

Leaves Essendon with 6,7,8.

Trade pick 6,7 or 8 plus future second with Geelong for 11 and 16* Note these picks are pre compo picks and other Academy picks so should push their value back further and may require later pick swaps to keep the "values" even

Geelong's pick 16 to GWS for Caldwell.

Leaves Essendon with Picks 7,8 and 11 this year with obviously next years first round pick to do the deal for Dunkley. Perhaps 8, 11 and next years first although Essendon perhaps would want a pick coming back as well for that.

Ideally I'd like Essendon to also look at trading pick 7 up to get Tilthorpe or McDonald although I doubt that any team wants to trade back unless Adelaide somehow get pick 2 compo for Crouch.

Please Note: Essendon bias probably coming through with this trade scenarios
