We are now one win + percentages outside the 8, which is something of a miracle.

Going into the round 8 game against the steroid junkies we were stone motherless last.

At the time I said that I would settle for just one more win this season - as long as it was against the junkies.

Well I lied. I want this one just as badly.

Swans by 247.
Percentage booster!

Said this in the Ressies thread but I'll repeat it here because it's relevant.

Going by the first quarter only, Knoll is getting a very bad run on this forum. His ruckwork was excellent in the first quarter yesterday.

I'd be playing him.

I had a look at the game again yesterday & I agree with you.
We will go with Knoll purely because all we want from him is a contest where he has a 50% chance of winning which Sinclair seems to have struggled to do. It is the very reason he caught our attention because he has the ability to get his hands on the ball. He also seemed to not shirk the contest once the ball hit the deck. He's no Simon Madden but he can have a sharp learning curve in the seniors now that we are desperate & need help. Knoll will be the man I think.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

Menzel shouldn’t play this week given the Bomber’ biggest weapon is their run off half back, especially at the ‘G.

Had a good chat on the weekend with a Geelong fellow who is a big member there. This was their biggest issue with him. The poor bugger just couldn't do it anymore for a whole game. It's no wonder with the knee issues he's had. He plays the wrong position to not be able to run back & forth. I fear he may not get another look in.

I don’t disagree but I would also be tempted to give him more time to get fit. I’d love to see him get a full preseason before we pull the plug.

I wonder if he'd take a rookie-list deal to stay here. Might find it insulting I suppose, but I'd love to keep him around another year and see how his body handles a full pre-season.

I wouldn’t mind keeping him on the main list. We’ve seen his AFL-level potential. Let him get a year at the club and a full preseason under his belt and if by then he’s not performing then fine, but we’re talking about a single spot on the list at what would be pretty low wage for a guy who, baseline, is still handy depth.

If Knoll is our ruck - maybe we have a ruck setup like the "old days"
Tell Knoll to stay in the centre square and wing ruck contests, Reid forward line, Aliir back line?
I think one of the Thursday/Friday night games had this setup and this was mentioned.

Probably off topic but is there space on the list for Menzel?

Presuming that in an ideal world we're playing 3 talls PLUS Franklin up forward (not all at the same time of course, one would be on the bench) then you also have Hayward and Blakey you probably have to leave some list space for a rookie forward like a Barling.

I guess it comes down to how far the Club thinks we can go next season and whether there is a spot for an X-factor Mitch Morton type at the death.

This would be reliant on the opposition ruck manning up Knoll. Without this happening, Essendon would have a loose player in the vicinity of the contest because we would be using Aliir or Reid to ruck.

Yeah, Geelong did it against Adelaide on Friday night.

Stanley rucked in the centre, Hawkins up forward and Blicavs down back.

McLean is the way to go! At any point our rotation could look like this:

McCartin forward, McLean rucking, and Aliir down back

Or

McCartin down back, McLean up forward and Aliir rucking.

In other words, we’d have options and flexibility instead of stuffing up our structures too much by relying only on two key blokes from either end of the ground. Plus I think McLean in general has shown the most of all the tall timber in the NEAFL.

I get the logic of this, but I don't think the coaches would want to be subbing Aliir in and out of defence. They don't typically like rotating people in and out defence during a game like they do with the forward line. They love stability in defence, understandably so.

I suspect it'll be either Aliir plays as first ruck the whole game or he plays in defence the whole game (given no further injuries during the game which require more changes). So with that in mind, I reckon it'll either be:

Knoll first ruck, Aliir in defence, Reid 2nd ruck/forward, McCartin forward

Or

Aliir first ruck, Reid 2nd ruck/forward, McCartin in defence, Fox/Menzel forward (they're more experienced and trustworthy)

I'd go the latter with Menzel.

Cunningham and McVeigh are possible ins this week as well, according to Longmire's post-match press conference. Interesting to see if they roll the dice with those guys too. There would be two unlucky guys to go out for them if so.

You just know Horse will drop COR for McVeigh

I thought Longmire seemed to rule out McVeigh on the basis that he’s played 1.5 games in 13 weeks.

Sydney ruckman Callum Sinclair's hopes of playing again this season will be determined by how his injured shoulder responds to rehabilitation over the next month.
Sinclair dislocated his right shoulder twice in the opening term of the Swans' 42-point win over Gold Coast at the SCG on Saturday and played no further part in the match after quarter-time.
He's avoided an operation at this stage, which would end his year immediately, and the Swans are hopeful a strength program can get him back on the field this season.
At the very least he will miss the next three games.
